Israel intends to make the Palestinians go away. Israel's vision is to pressure Palestinians to emigrate until they can be kept in a few bantustans and visited like Americans go to the reservation to buy cigarettes.
That's the future Israel wants. It's the future the Democratic Party and American Jews enable.
At this moment Israel is violating Palestinian human rights. That's not a matter of interpretation. That's fucking reality.
And while you fret about if we can just get everybody to be nice and acknowledge the hurt feelings from the past... and Jews have suffered too... and blah, blah, blah.
Meanwhile, Palestinian human rights are being violated. Israel is stealing (present tense) land.
And you seem to think that the highest priority is keeping liberal Jewish Democrats from having their feelings hurt b/c some progressive are criticizing Zionism.
Forgive me if I think people like you are worthless as allies for promoting peace. Liberal Jewish Democrats have had decades to come out for peace that respects Palestinian human rights. And for decades liberal Jewish Democrats have prioritized "feeling" secure and the "rights" of the state of Israel over Palestinian human rights. And until J-Street does something of consequence, I'm not going to believe it substantially different than the rest of the Israel lobby.
You're right! There was no problem before American progressives started questioning Zionism.
Everything was going great! Israel was gradually annexing the land. And liberal American Jews didn't have to question their support for Zionism because they never encountered anybody who questioned Zionism.
Of course this analysis neglects the Palestinian perspective just a little bit, doesn't it?
There isn't a clash of two valid narratives. There's the truth: Zionism stole the land (and continues to steal land) and there's the propaganda versions that account for pieces of the truth.
