Tammy Duckworth gives Peter Roskam a truth smackdown

Crossposted from Bridget In the Sixth.

A little birdie sent me these graphics of Tammy's mailers that are set to hit on Tuesday. Kisses to my source!

The RNCC has been repeatedly carpet bombing the district with several mailers a week. So-called Austin Mayor has chronicled them nicely.

All I have to say is GO GIRL! These are great. I love the bit about Peter Roskam being a "personal injury lawyer and career politician".

Re: Tammy Duckworth

...personal injury lawyer Peter Poskam.....

I guess John Edwards can kiss a possible endorsement from Tammy Duckworth in 2008 goodbye.

Re: "Personal Injury Lawyer"

You play the hand that you're dealt. Republicans have been demonizing "ambulance chasers" for decades. It's a Republican district and therefore a great way to create some cognitive dissonance and peal support away from Roskam.

The best line of the mailer though is "If Peter Roskam will lie about a veteran's commitment to securing our borders, he will lie about anything" which paints Roskam as an untrustworthy liar AND someone who doesn't support veterans. Yet another Republican who's for the war but against our troops!

I'm with Bridget -- really loving this!

Re: "Personal Injury Lawyer"

I don't like Duckworth as a Democrat, but I like the way she publicly branded Roskam a liar.

However, a Democrat going after Roskam for being a personal injury lawyer doesn't bode well for  J. Edwards (and that's just as well).

SOme of the people posting on this site apparently don't realize that different messages work for different people... and the point of it is to win.

Re: Tammy Duckworth gives Peter Roskam a truth sma

the point of it is to win.

Being a Republican posing as a Democrat isn't the way to win..

That's what's wrong with the Democratic Party -- because of right wingers like Duckworth it can't stand for anything.

Agree and Don't

But remember, messages aren't made in a vacuum. Different messages given to different audiences often come home to roost.

While I agree that this may interest Republicans, why would they vote for Duckworth when the Republican in the race essentially has the same message? Roskam's against amensty too.

If this ad is to counter a Roskam smear that Duckworth supports Amnesty, then do it in a way that doesn't open her up to further attacks. This ad doesn't do that.

That's lesson that's been lost on too many Democrats of the DLC persuasion in too many elections.

If it's a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time. -- HST

Re: Tammy Duckworth gives Peter Roskam a truth sma

That's a pretty terrible ad.  Way to cede the entire terrain by saying that you "oppose amnesty."  That really frames the question in a pretty perfect way...for Republicans.

Nice Visuals-

Bridget:

I take back every snarky comment I have made about you.  Personally I think the visuals are great.  A real Iraqi war veteran (not Rummy or one of his flunky generals before a Senate Committee) in uniform with a great story to tell.

There is a difference in the public's mind between  a personal injury lawyer and a trial lawyer.  The words are well chosen.

Ha, ain't nothing wrong...

...with a little snark now and again. Besides, I'm tough. I don't offend easily.

Jerome is right, the point is to WIN.
