Save it for 2050

"Save it for 2050. ... Every speech should contain the line you were born in the middle of America American to the middle class in the middle of the last century. And talk about the basic bargain as about the deeply American values you grew up with, learned as a child and that drive you today. Values of fairness, compassion, responsibility, giving back"

The key phrase of this memo is "save it for 2050." Its meaning is very clear, very clear.

http://www.diversityinc.com/public/311.c fm- "In 2050, Half of U.S. Will Be People of Color"

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/articl e.asp?ARTICLE_ID=37720- "America by 2050, Another Country."

http://www.diversityinc.com/public/823.c fm "When Whites are the minority by 2050, will there be changes."

http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/doc /2004-03/18/content_315943.htm- "US to be nearly half minority by 2050"

This is just a quick search of something I recognized as soon as I saw the "save it for 2050" comment. Penn, as I believed was all for using race as a divisive tactics and thought the only way it was a good strategy was if whites were no longer the voting majority.  Mark Penn is scum and will always be scum.  He wanted to paint Obama was unamerican(i.e. not like "us").

Save it for 2050, this guy has some nerve.

trolling hard.

old leatherface (your term, not mine) lost brandon, there's no need to rehash the primary.

Re: trolling hard.

CG why are you doing this?

I think you think Hillary will get damaged in this mess.

I think if she and her supporters put this all on the people who were paid MILLIONS just to run her campaign in the ground, then she will be fine.

What you are doing here is rediculous.

Are you defending Mark Penn, because if not, his diary does not even MENTION hillary.

I had never even heard of the smear you cite, till you or someone else cite it recently.

i think you...

and brandon should go somewhere and talk about it.  but psst the primary is over.

Re: i think you...

Respectfully, CG, you're a bit tonedeaf here.  Recent revelations about Mark Penn are new and interesting.  They help us learn about what didn't work and perhaps why it did not work.  We don't want to repeat these mistakes.

Would it be healthier if we had this conversation in December?  Sure.  However, the information just came out and we're going to digest it.

Re: i think you...

Reaper is right, this has nothing to do with Hillary at all,  Penn was a spilover from Dick Morris (big surprise).

Reaper, I think this would have been better released next APRIL, Decemeber even too early  (unless Clinton would be in cabinet or supreme court, so then yes, right after obama nov win would be best)

Also Reaper, didn't we both GBCW last week.  I got off, caught up at work, and I even checked out Daily Kos.

Turns out the traffic on their is pretty normal, maybe 4x as heavy then here, but a big change, it used to be 20x more busy then here.   it was like 300 comments per diary.

Re: i think you...

respectfully too reaper - i am not tonedeaf.  i am perfectly happy to have a conversation about penn with those that are intellectually honest and do not have an agenda to either bash obama or clinton.  have you seen anybody like that yet?  Blazer's Edge had a great diary on this the other day that proposed a fair conversation on this and it rapidly became trollilicious much like this and other diaries today.  BE had the right mind to pull it when it rapidly became the a turd sandwich.

so are you suggesting the DemLand and Brandon are people that would be a good starting point in which to have this conversation?  lets add sweet potato pie, catfish and engels and we'll get the party started.

Re: i think you...

If someone makes a valid point without trolling I will read it and try to consider it fairly.  No one is past redemption and even a busted clock is right twice a day.  Brandon can be an ass, no doubt about it.  I've HR'ed him more than anyone else you mentioned.  However, if he or Catfish or even Jacob Freeze tries to be constructive I'll try to be openminded.

Ad hominem attacks are deplorable.  They should be a last resort, if even that.

okay so let me get this straight?

(and you know exactly what i am referring to) there has been a whole lot of people dissatisfied with the level of discourse here. some have even gone so far as to take extreme measures, such as leave.

at the same time people are bashing (and some are clear trollers) the democratic nominee, a 2-term democratic president and sitting senator.  but now that we can do it in the guise of calling the clinton's racists through criticism of penn its okay?

im frankly surprised here repaer, really surprised.

Re: okay so let me get this straight?

You misunderstand me then.  I apologize for expressing that imperfectly.  Let me try again.

If someone makes a valid point I will try to consider the point without immediately leaping into invective.  Mark Penn is such an odious figure that I do not think that a criticism of him or his words is necessarily a criticism of Hillary Clinton.

It is not a given that Brandon meant to attack Hillary Clinton in this diary.  Nothing in it explicitly says so and moreover I do not get that odor from it.  If I had seen an attack on Senator Clinton, either directly or by implication I would have reacted that way.

Canadian Gal, I have HR'ed Brandon many, many times, but only when he's insulted Hillary Clinton.  He can take a swing at Mark Penn as far as I'm concerned.  I honestly didn't see an attack on Hillary Clinton in this diary and I still don't.  Obviously we can disagree.

If Catfish wants to write a diary on a congressional race and does so constructively then I have zero problem with that.  If Engels decides to write a diary on foreign policy I ain't gonna go in and taunt that person.

I'm trying to become a more tolerant person.  I'm not being lopsided here and accepted attacks on Hillary Clinton while trying to quell attacks on Barack Obama.  Look at my HR history.  Brandon's in it a fair bit.

Re: i think you...

CG,  I am not going to attack you as I didnt the other time you went after me.

But I am not to sure why you would include me with this.

I never attacked Hillary anywhere, if anything I hate Mark Penn even more, above all his crimes he destroyed the political reputation of the Clintons, and heavily damaged the reputation of our party.

You called me a purity troll in the past for wearing my DNC blinders.
Fair enough, I love the Democrats.

But you cant come in here and shoot Brandon down for making a great point that absolutely ZERO to do with Hillary or Bill.

Will you accept this, Im not sure.

CG, as far as discourse, not to put this site down, but maybe you might want to go somewhere else like Kos, Firedoglake, etc  (I went to KOs, its slooow there)
because CG, I don't any of the diaries about this topic veered instantly to people defending Mark Penn.

Find me ONE Dem site on the internets where you had people on their knees defending Mark Penn.

by DemsLandslide2008 2008-08-11 01:29PM | 0 recs
yes - because this is about me defending penn....

nice try.

you can claim all you like that i attacked you, but we both know that this is not true.  are you employing a double standard when it comes to obama and clinton -yes.  if you want to twist and turn people's words to fit your own agenda - feel free.  but count me out in participating.  as to leaving the site, i think its safe to say that i the level of discourse has gone down and as i said to you before, the purity trolls are just as much to blame as PUMA. i dont want to engage you anymore on this issue.

Re: i think you...

I think CG's response to this has less to do with the substance of the diary than the history and reputation of the diarist.  I'm not speaking for CG obviously, but It isn't unreasonable to suspect the motives of a person who could make a comment like Brandon's.

Re: i think you...

But Denny, that is my beef with CG here.

She got WAY to sensitive on this, and in effect ATTACKED ME for no reason.

Brandon might be a dick, but so are you, and so am I .

What Brandon wrote in here is a really good point.

CG won't allow Brandon to make a point that has NO bearing on HRC because he may have said something in the past.

That is ABSURD.

She accused me of being a purity troll,  then WTF is this?

Save it for 2050

Maybe he meant that's when a Clinton might finally be president again?

Oh well, Jabba the Penn met his fitting end...choked on his own poison.

As an imigrant with a "funny last name"

I must say I HATE Mark Penn for this.

I accept the Republicans using bigotry to destroy America, but not "Democrats".

I can't wait for the Tar N Feather photoshops jobs on Mark Penn.

I really hope Hillary's response to this is strong.

I wanted to make a debt relief donation, but this criminal stood in the way.

Please Hillary, you brought him in, please ride him out (and his money stealing wife)

Re: Save it for 2050

Penn wanted to paint him as not having enough Katrina tears.

Oh my bad that was Obama running the racist campaign.

Silly me.

Re: Save it for 2050

"Silly me."

Hey, at least 1/3 of your post was dead-on it.

This could have been an interesting discussion

Hold on everybody...

I was unaware of the significance of 2050. Very good point Brandon. I would love to see a more detailed diary raising this question.

What does it say about people who worry over whether whites will remain the majority in our country?  Why does it even matter?  Does the majority hold some sway over the country?

Speaking from the perspective of a "minority", it seems disingenuous for those who are actually in the minority (globally speaking) to worry over loss of power.

Europeans have controlled most of the wealth of the planet for centuries in spite of being the minority.

America will come to reflect the demographics of the human race. Perhaps then we will see if this great experiment called democracy actually works.

Yeah, Penn sucks

and always has. Did we really need another diary on this?

by sricki 2008-08-11 10:28AM | 0 recs
Re: Yeah, Penn sucks

Probably not, but if that's the standard then we're going to see very few diaries indeed.

:)

Re: Yeah, Penn sucks

Im dissapointed people are still stuck in Primary fights, and not seeing the bigger picture.

Penn is more than the HRC campaign he bludgeoned,  he represents a far bigger issue to the DNC.

WHO ARE THESE STRATEGIST/ADVISORS?

AND WHY ARE THEY HERE?

AND WHAT WILL THeY DO FOR US?

I am so sick of this fake strategist/advisor title.

Wouldn't it be nice if the DNC required any person wanting to cary the title to do some political volunteer work.

See when people like me and you voulenteer to canvas, we save the campaigns money.
These campaigns could never run without people who voulenteer their capital and/or their time.
