Understanding why the dems folded on FISA

Sometimes a picture just says it all (if you squint you can see the words democratic national convention at the top but you'd think they were a bit ashamed)

The Denver Convention brought to you by the democratic national committee , the democratic majority in the house and Obama. Bought (cheap) and paid for by the telecom community with the money they save from not having to defend themselves from lawsuits. And please start holding your breath now for Obama to withdraw that immunity should he become president.

Re: Understanding why the dems folded on FISA

"Convictions"?  I think you meant "nothing to lose."  See also soyousay's comment below.

Re: Understanding why the dems folded on FISA

hmmmm. she's elected, and has her seat to lose. another prominent elected official flip-flopped on this issue contrary to primary rhetoric. nice try though to diminish what one candidate has chosen to stand by.

Re: Understanding why the dems folded on FISA

She's got a safe Senate seat, and she's paid for by big finance and speaking engagements more than the communications industry.

Re: Understanding why the dems folded on FISA

Should you really wish to know why Hillary voted to authorize the use of force against iraq, here is her statement at the time of her vote:

http://clinton.senate.gov/speeches/iraq_ 101002.html

I have heard a rumor that words matter (hmmm can't remember maybe it was from Obama of yeah that was it) but somehow when they come from Hillary certain people tell us we shouldn't believe them.

Enjoy!

A rude awakening for some

politics = money and power

That pretty much sums it up.

Re: Understanding why the dems folded on FISA

Somebody want to prove to me this picture is real. Where did it come from? Before I jump on the how dare they bandwagon I need to know in fact this is the real deal and not just some weak attempt by those "who shall not be named."

Talk Left blog.  IMO, it is really foolish marketing.

Re: Understanding why the dems folded on FISA

Again grabbing something from another blog is not  proof that this is real and not  a bad photoshop job which it looks like.

Sorry  I need more substantiation that talk left.

By this logic

I guess we know why Hillary voted for the Iraq War:

<quote>Lockheed donated $10,000 to Hillary's Senate campaign in 2006 and provided her with plenty of free rides on its planes. Plug Power officials have reportedly donated some $7,100 to her campaigns since 2003, and several Northrop executives gave the max to her presidential campaign.</quote>

Good thing for Hillary and smart people everywhere that your laughable stupidity is so evident.

Re: Understanding why the dems folded on FISA

I don't doubt that this has something to do with FISA.  However, I really think there was more going on in that failure, and to resort to this level of simplification displays a level of political naivety.

I heard the argument somewhere that the Dems caved on Fisa because they heard things in committees that were illegal, and that they broke the law for failing to act upon it, but felt that they couldn't act because it wasn't politically feasible.  This might have been Glen Greenwald, I feel like I read this on Salon.  I think it is a more believable argument than the one forwarded here.
