    Racist, I can't answer?

Bigoted?  Yes, in the sense of excluding a qualified candidate because SHE doesn't conform to their pre-set image of an activits right wing justice.

THE DNC should go after the entire GOP as a bunch of hypocrite scumbags.  We should lock in the Latino vote for a generation!!

    Thank you.

And, now let's support Harry Reid in getting the Matthew Shephard Act passed through the Senate--with or without GOP votes.  Justice cannot wait for the knuckle-draggers!

Thanks for the excellent post, Chris.

I fully concur that, while he is certainly not my ideal, our party's ability to welcome Specter is a sign of our strength.

Another sad note about the state of our erstwhile "loyal opposition:

The only GOPers not RETIRING who voted for her are a Kansan (see above reasoning) and 3 actual "moderates."

I think the GOP is going to get even smaller in the near future.  That is good from a partisan perspective, but probably not great for the country to not have a reasonable opposition party.

I guess this point about an opposition reinforces why we do need to accept the role of more conservative dems...keeps us from straying "too far" (too far in the sense of what I think the public will accept, not what I personally believe).

It will take time to see what Specter actually does.

For example, a "tweak" in the bill may enable him to say "it's OK."  We don't need him on the nomination.  Let's just see a bit before stomping huffily...

  • Brit,

Is your implication that Zionism is inherently bad, or just an observation about others' behavior?

  • Dear Strummerson,

Serious Question:  why do you bother responding to Main Street??

Obviously, in said writer's world view (I don't know if it's a him or her), Israel is all evil--incarnate--and HAMAS, et. al. are pure good.

Every response is just another opportunity to deligitimize the entire nation and notion of Israel and her entire population.

  • Dear CG,
I totally agree.  I have basically stopped coming to MYDD, because I can't stand the assumption that Zionists are bad people and evil.

Several diarists here clearly believe it is impossible to be part of this community unless you HATE Israel and/or think that HAMAS is ethical and noble.

Thank you for the diary, but I fear that it will change nothing.  At least, know that you're not along.

Your choice of words in the SUBJECT speaks clearly.  You could have said AIPAC Pushes... or some other formulation

You CHOSE to write about THE SINGULAR (evil) "Israeli Lobby."  Clearly, no decent thinking AMERICAN can possibly be connected to THOSE EVIL people.  If anyone wrote about other interest groups in those same global terms, they would be called out for bigotry.

Furthermore, using such integrated terms implies that all Israelis, all US lobbies with interests in Israel are monolithic and all powerful.  These are the worst of bigoted canards.  "All of them are the same..."

    Simply unacceptable.

    AMEN!!

Let the GOP knuckle-draggers rant on about why healthcare for all is bad, why the unemployed shouldn't get more insurance, why to privatize Social Security, etc.

    I'm waiting!!

  • Joshuagen,

See apology above, but respectfully must diagree with you here.

Again, I don't think we're talking about social/legal differences among different peoples/societies/countries.  Rather, I think it's about the capitulation of the Pakistani government to the Taleban.  And I've seen no evidence to suggest the people of the Valley support radical, Taleban-style Sharia.

  • Sorry, Joshuagen,

My comments about apologists for the Taleban was not directed at you for this diary, but rather for comments I've seen in the responses here and on other diaries that ARE apoligist.

Indeed you state clearly that you find it hideous.

  • Thank you, Tarheel!!

And, do you have any insight into why so many "progressives" are acting as apologists for the Taleban.  It's sickening and I don't get it at all.

  • The existence of Sharia elsewhere is irrelevant to this discussion.  It (Sharia) is NOT a choice of the people of the Valley.  It is being imposed on them by the Taleban, with the complicity of a feckless Pakistani government.

If there had been a vote by the people to embrace Sharia would be different.

Second, comparing India and the Taleban is absurd.  Yes, Sharia may exist in India for certain issues, but does so in the context of a civil society that prevents things, like, stoning women without covered heads (that's called assault) or keeping girls from education (that's called enslavement).  We know exactly what the Taleban version of Sharia is--remember Afghanistan.  And that view is ghastly, inhuman and inhumane.

This is not India and this is not the will of anyone but the Taleban.
