Socks, 1989-2009

Socks, the former first cat under President Clinton, has died of cancer. The Clintons have released the following statement:

Socks brought much happiness to Chelsea and us over the years, and enjoyment to kids and cat lovers everywhere. We're grateful for those memories, and we especially want to thank our good friend, Betty Currie, for taking such loving care of Socks for so many years."

Funny that they dumped the cat as soon as they left the White House.

Re: Socks, 1989-2009

Is it?  I'd love to hear the conspiracy theory behind that one.

Actually, no I wouldn't.

Re: Socks, 1989-2009

Don't you know?  Socks killed Vince Foster and sabotaged Ron Brown's plane, because they were about to expose Bill and Hillary Clinton's massive corruption.  It's obvious to anyone.  Having him around the Clintons was only going to tempt him to write a tell-all book.

Much better to have Betty  Currie "keep an eye on him" and make sure he never met with his literary agent.

You don't want him blowing the lid off the Clinton scandals like Checkers did to Nixon.  Who do you think tipped off Woodward and Bernstein?

That is truly a ridiculous comment.....

Real pet lovers always put the needs of their companion animal first. With Mrs. Clinton beginning a career in the Senate, the President beginning the Clinton Initiative, and Chelsea in school, they didn't want Socks to be alone all day, and so Ms.Currie took over full time care of Socks. End of story.

Many of us have heard this before, but it bears repeating: if the Clintons walked on water, they be criticized for not knowing how to swim.....

so dim

they didnt"dump" the cat.

Buddy the Dog had serious problems with Socks - well, the reverse  - and Ms Currie loved Socks, so...

Rest in peace, Socks Clinton

your legacy, memory, and honour will never be forgotten. Barney will be jealous for the rest of his life.

As a proud owner of two Scotties,

I'm forced to stick up for Barney (and Ms. Beazley, too, for that matter.....) Obviously no fan of W, but those are two wonderful dogs.

Bye Socks

I just pray that rahm or Axelrod keep the Obamas from getting a friggin POODLE which is obviously what Michelle wants (she said so btw)

I guess she thinks it will match her mink and her love of champagne - like those two loves of hers - poodeles are soo classy you know!

by Zapata 2009-02-21 12:37PM | 0 recs
Just like during the election

You PUMA's couldn't hit a target at point blank range with a cannon.

Michelle (actually the kids) didn't want a POODLE. they were interested in a Labradoodle...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labradoodle

"Like most Labrador Retrievers and Poodles, Labradoodles are generally friendly, energetic and good with families and children (although as with any dog the temperament may vary between individuals). Labradoodles also often display an affinity for water and the strong swimming ability present in both their parent breeds.
Like their parent breeds, both of which are amongst the world's most intelligent dog breeds, [9] Labradoodles are very intelligent and quite trainable. Labradoodles can be taught to obey verbal or sign language commands, or both, and remain commonly used as guide dogs for disabled or handicapped persons around the world.[10]

Now, it's clear you are a Hater Zapata, but DOGS as well?

Is there no end to your anger and your bitterness, that would even HATE the Obama's dog?

Pathetic.

Thank you....

and poodles look significantly less 'fancy'
without the show clipping.
I like big dogs, and standard poodles look decent.
I wouldn't ever give MY dog that ridiculous show clipping, though!

President Obama is busy saving the country

It was reported that he told his daughters it would have to wait a while, and they understood.

The photo of Chelsea playing with Socks while her dad works is very sweet. Thanks.

That's a well-lived cat

It's rare for a cat to live to be 20; my old cat Sarah Bernhardt lived to be 21, and she was just skin and bones and a bad attitude by then.

Socks lived a good life and brought smiles to a lot of people, including me.  May the road rise to meet you, Socks.  I salute you.
