Huckabee's Son Captures Dog, Then Hangs, Slits Throat, and Stones To Death

Via Radar:

In 1998, David Huckabee, son of former Arkansas governor and current GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, admitted to being involved in the brutal killing of a dog when he was an 18 year old Boy Scout counselor.  This part of the story is tough:

Boy Scout conselors, 17 year old Clayton Frady and 18 year old David Huckabee, the son of Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, have admitted to catching a stray dog during their summer session at Camp Pioneer in Hatfield, AR, and hanging the dog by his neck, slitting his throat and stoning him to death.

Camp officials, who did not report the crime to law enforcement officials, have admitted that the act did occur and have fired the boys from their positions. However, no charges have been filed against the young men.

Having a troubled son doesn't undermine a person's competency for political office. That said, that a Governor's son can commit such an act without any investigation or charges does raise some flags.

You can be sure that if the kid's last name was Clinton, Gore, or Kerry, the GOP, Fox News, Limbaugh, et al. would have the issue front and center.

Why?

I'm honestly not sure that this is something that people need to know about.  His son apparently is troubled?  Does this mean that Governor Huckabee will hang and stone his political enemies?  No.  Does this mean that Governor Huckabee will dishonor the office of the President?  No.  What does this have to do with Governor Huckabee's ability to govern?  Nothing.  Why should we care.

He's the father and was responsible for raising him, and teaching him values.

Re: Why?

You make some good points, Obama08.

I do agree with you that having a troubled son doesn't undermine a person's competency for political office.  However, that a Governor's son can commit such an act without any investigation or charges does raise some flags.

What I am sure about, is that if the kid's last name was Clinton, Gore, or Kerry, Fox News, Limbaugh, et al. would put the issue front and center.

People have psychiatric problems for many different reasons. Unless there is some evidence that suggests it is directly a result of Huckabee parents it has nothing at all to do with his campaign.

You are right - but BigBoyBlue's point still stands. Any Democrat would be - well - hung and stoned - if a similar revelation came out.

Does this mean we should crucify Huckabee, just because they would crucify us? No. But if there is one thing the blogs (this diary included) have helped me understand, it's that we are fighting an asymmetrical war against conservatives.

I would hope if any Democrat or Republican had a similar family illness there would be some common decency.
