Bill O'Reilly Doesn't Speak for Joe Biden

Cross posted at DailyKos

Recently, Bill O'Reilly made some reckless comments about our campaign and why Joe Biden won't be attending the YearlyKos convention in Chicago.

"What is significant is that this website and the others mentioned have intimidated the entire Democratic presidential field with the exception of Joseph Biden, who will not go to that convention. And we respect the senator for that."
-- Bill O'Reilly on FOX News, "The O'Reilly Factor" (July 30, 2007)

This is a total misrepresentation.

And it's not the first time O'Reilly has tried to do this to Joe Biden.

The simple truth is Joe Biden would be at YearlyKos if he could, but adding a book tour to all the demands of a campaign meant some things had to change. But we won't stand by and let Bill O'Reilly try to drive a wedge between the progressive online community and us to make a false point on behalf of his half-baked theories.

While not always agreeing with all members of the DailyKos community, Joe Biden respects what the YearlyKos convention - a diverse assembly of activists and organizations - represents as a vehicle for progressives to organize and advocate on behalf of democratic ideals and the Democratic Party.

The main thing we are united on is that we must end this war in Iraq.  I hope you'll take a look at Joe Biden's plan, the only comprehensive political solution offered by any Democratic candidate to leave Iraq without leaving chaos behind.

Our campaign has never shied away from using new technologies and new media to engage voters in this election season.  Just last week, we responded via YouTube to Rudy Giuliani and his hollow rhetoric about Republicans and national security - an important moment for candidates directly engaging each other in an open dialogue.

And anybody who watched the YouTube debate knows Joe Biden is up for a direct conversation with the American people.

We look forward to participating in YearlyKos next year and working with the progressive online community to take back the White House in 2008.

Re: Bill O'Reilly Doesn't Speak for Joe Biden

Joe Biden will get us out of the Iraq war without creating a human rights disaster in the region.  No other candidate has a comprehensive plan for ending the war.

Bill O'Reilly is a Neo-Con apologist.  Nuff' said.

Read my blog where I urge Barack Obama to emulate Biden's position on Iraq

Re: Bill O'Reilly Doesn't Speak for Joe Biden

You are urging your candidate to adopt Biden's plan?

Why don't you just support the original?

No offense, but Obama is not ready to lead the country after the bsh administration screwed everything up.

Re: Bill O'Reilly Doesn't Speak for Joe Biden

Joe Biden has the smartest plan to allow us to withdraw from Iraq. I would like to see him introduce it as binding legislation and I would like to see all of the Democratic Presidential candidates co-sponsor it.

Re: Bill O'Reilly Doesn't Speak for Joe Biden

Look, Bill O'Reilly is an idiot. Ironically, the fact that he's attacking Biden now might actually garner some well-deserved attention for Biden's campaign. It boggles my mind that more people aren't calling the other candidates on the carpet about what they plan to do with Iraq. Biden hammers away with his, "What then? What then?" and with good reason. I still haven't heard another candidate from either party satisfactorily answer that yet. Until they do, Biden should receive serious consideration from Democratic and independent voters alike.

Re: Bill O'Reilly Doesn't Speak for Joe Biden

With Joe Biden, you get the President you THOUGHT you were voting for.

The guy is authentic: he is one of us.  He takes the train to work every day and he has never lost touch with our lives, hopes, dreams and the bitter tragedies that effect us all.

Senator Biden is now on a well-timed promotional tour for his new book entitled "Promises to Keep" [italics being unavailable, quotation marks will have to do].  The title comes from a familiar and beautiful poem by Robert Frost.

"Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening"

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it's queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there's some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

In this highly symbolic poem, Frost reminds us that we choose life over death, even at those times when death seems so inviting (". . . lovely, dark and deep. . . ."), until that day when the one who owns the woods call us to him.

Anyone who has suffered a tragic loss knows that, for a long time afterward, life loses all its color, its appeal, and we carry on for those who continue to depend on us.

Joe Biden was just 29 years old when he was first elected to the Senate and, within weeks, lost his wife and baby daughter to an automobile accident.  The "woods" must have looked "lovely, dark and deep" to that young man after such a shocking loss.  But, he did not venture into the serene darkness, for his two sons were badly injured, needed him, and the people of his state needed him as well.  Joe had "promises to keep," and, I believe, that in keeping his promises, Joe Biden found life again.

I firmly believe that Joe Biden will keep his promises to the Anerican people--no ifs, ands, or buts.  That's why the American people will elect Joe Biden their next President. You may not always agree with what he says, but you know you can trust what he says.

I know my countrymen and I know that, in ever-increasing numbers, they are staying away from the polls as they would the plague for the simple reason that people have lost all hope of ever trusting a Politician again.  These are "Joe's people."  He will be the politician that fires them up again.

With Joe Biden, you get the President you THOUGHT you were voting for.

Re: Bill O'Reilly Doesn't Speak for Joe Biden

Senator Biden is the only candidate running in either party that is ready to clean up the mess left from this administration.

It is a shame that he can't make it to the Kos convention.  It would be a great opportunity for the netroots to get to know him.

I appreciate you posting this here, and hope to hear more from the campaign....or better yet, the man himself... on these sites.
