CA-46: Better Leadership for Our People & Our Planet

(Proudly cross-posted at Clintonistas for Obama)

I live in Orange County, CA. I'm used to seeing scary Republicans that care nothing about environmental justice. But of all the crazy Republicans here, none can be crazier than "Crazy Dana"Rohrabacher. He's consistently voted against the best interests of our people and our planet, and it's time we do something about this. That's why I'm so glad to see some good friends of ours take real action for real change.

Follow me after the flip for the details...

Here's the big announcement from the California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV):

"We're proud to support Debbie Cook because she has shown time and again her commitment to protecting our coastal resources," said CLCV's Southern California Director David Allgood. "Mayor Cook has a long record of achievement on environmental, public health and other issues important to the people of the 46th District."

Huntington Beach Mayor & Democratic Congressional Candidate Debbie Cook has worked so hard to do so much to protect the California coastal environment. She successfully sued the state Coastal Commission to protect the ecologically sensitive Bolsa Chica Wetlands. She successfully convinced all the Republicans on the Huntington Beach City Council to join with all the Democrats on the council in unanimously agreeing to sign the city onto the US Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement. And today, she's working to stop a dangerousdesalination plant that would harm the regional coastline while fueling more exurban sprawl.

Debbie Cook truly is the people's environmental champion here in Orange County, CA. And if we elect her to Congress, she can be a champion for all of us. So will you please join the League of Conservation Voters in supporting Debbie Cook?

I've come to know Debbie Cook pretty well as I've helped out with the campaign. She's the real deal. That's why she's earned my full support. I hope she can earn yours as well. :-)

Re: Tips? Flames? Suggestions?

I met Dana in '92 . . . before my Senior year at MHS.

He told me that he only planned on serving a couple more terms. I knew it was his seat . . . until the wetlands crowd could better organize.

Keep us posted on this race, and if we have realistic shot at turning Surf City BLUE!!

Re: CA-46: Better Leadership ...

CLCV has taken long enough to make this announcement ... this should have come MONTHS ago, IMHO

I know, I know...

Except I don't know what took them so damn long. But hey, they're on board now! And as long as the environmental justice community works with us NOW to elect Debbie Cook to Congress, I'll be happy. ;-)

CA-46: Better Leadership

Couldn't have said it better myself!  I grew up in HB and I'm so glad she's running for Congress, she's a viable and important candidate in this very Red County and any Democrat, in her district or not, should be getting behind her to send her to Congress.  We will all benefit from her wisdom and leadership when she's elected to Congress.

And I've given $50 to her campaign myself!

Thanks, Elli!

I think if elected, Debbie will do A WHOLE LOT to make this reddish-purple county much bluer. Oh yes...

And I hope many more folks give! :-)

Great diary, once again!

I'm running out of green here, but I should be able to make another contribution eventually.

This race has big potential

I am watching this one closely because it can break late just like CA-11 and CA-04 did in 2006. I am also trying to raise some San Francisco money but a lot of the activits here are focused on Obama (as if he is not going to win CA already). Art Torres better help here.

Re: CA-46: Better Leadership

You may or may not be aware of this place.
For those of us outside Orange Country?

(Note: at some point in time..can folks edit title
so we don't have to go through subject too long?)

Well, all I can say is that we really ARE that expensive in "The OC"! Please have mercy on us, for we do not know how much more we'll have to pay in mortgages! ;-)
