Globe: Gregg Linked to Ambramoff-Staffer Under Investigation

This is a story that seems to be gaining legs. and it came up in today's presser about sen Gregg and an aide of his under investigation in the Abramoff scandal. The Boston Globe is reporting this staffer for Gregg got goodies in exchange for helping get legislation passed. The story is now popping up on some news sites right now. we get nothing out of Gregg being Commerce Sec. He wont even vote for the Obama stim bill and we realy need his vote at the moment.

Obama has been doing better media wise last night and today. But I fear msm is about to launch another blitz-linking Gregg to Ambramoff. I sany vetting going on here? Why appoint anyone who had even a brush with Abramoff? The dems need to nix this Gregg deal.

White House deflects Gregg link to Abramoff

February 4, 2009 03:01 PM
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs indicated this afternoon that the nomination of Senator Judd Gregg of New Hampshire as commerce secretary would not be imperiled by a former staffer emerging in the investigation of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

The Associated Press is reporting that Kevin Koonce, who worked as legislative director in Gregg's Senate office from 2002 to 2004, was the "Staffer F" cited in a guilty plea last week by Todd Boulanger, a former deputy to Abramoff, who said he gave the staffer front-row tickets to a hockey game and other tickets to a baseball game, and in exchange received favors in spending legislation.

Gibbs said he did not know whether the issue came up in the vetting of Gregg before President Obama nominated him on Tuesday. ticalintelligence/2009/02/white_house_de f.html

Gregg Under Investigation

Sweet. Let's see if we can't get this Republican asshole to withdraw himself, or better yet, refuse to confirm him. His replacement has been appointed. Put this MF'er on the unemployment line where he belongs.

Re: Globe: Gregg Linked to Ambramoff-Staffer

The Dems need to nix the nomination? Seriously, you want Obama to suffer how many failed-nomination headlines in a row now?

This "scandal" is a joke. If you've ever worked on the Hill, you know that it's incredibly easy for an egomaniacal staffer to do something like this without the boss ever knowing. This doesn't taint Gregg at all.

Kinda silly

I'm no big fan of Gregg, but considering that Abramoff has at least second or third degree ties with every congressional Republican that was around when he was doing business, it would be nigh impossible to find a competant Republican who didn't have a friend or staffer in bed with Jack.

We argued against guilt by association when they were trying to tie Obama to the Weather Underground.  What's changed?

Re: Globe: Gregg Linked to Ambramoff-Staffer

I'm pretty sure half the Republican caucus could have been linked to Abramoff.  The guy was a pretty powerful and well-connected lobbyist.

In any case, I doubt this is enough to sink Gregg.

You might want to reword your diary.

I think you're going out of your way in both your title and content to imply that there is some connection between Gregg and the Abramoff scandal. None has been shown. This is a former (several years ago I think) staffer.

I'm no fan of Gregg. I'm not happy with his appointment, but I'm also not happy with people trying to hit his muddy staffer and hoping some mud spatters on Gregg. I think there's plenty to attack the guy on honestly without resorting to this tactic.
