The big banks don't want the small banks rescued. They want them to fail so they can buy them up in bankruptcy court with TARP money. The big banks own the Fed and the Treasury department. Ultimately you will see a binary distribution in the banking sector. Megabank #1 will have 50% of the deposits. Megabank #2 will have 25% of the deposits. et cetera. This will mirror the post-WWII auto sector. There will be a "Big Three" and a rather sick #4 and #5 and boutique players.

And unfortunately, China has taken a commanding lead in solar power. We can only manufacture weapons and bogus paper. We don't even produce scientists and engineers anymore because there are few jobs available, college is crushingly expensive, and industry prefers to outsource to India and China or hire cheap H1-B's. Where corporations once sponsored co-op programs and scholarships, they now prefer to hire those sponsored by foreign governments to save money for bloated bonuses.
