So who's keeping count-

How many times has John McCain said something really stupid or made a gaffe this week? Anyone want to make a bet. Whats your guess-

3?    5?    10?

MOTHER JONES has compiled a list of all the McCain shenanigans going on this week. A cheat sheet to keep up with the Straight Talk Express, if you will. I went a step further by linking to all the gaffes [i've never google'd so much in one sitting before;]

So here it is boys and girls, the McCain CHEAT SHEET in all its glory:

* The Big One- McCain adviser Phil Gramm remark: Americans who worry about the economy are "whiners" and there's no problem with the economy, just a "mental recession." McCain response: Gramm doesn't speak for me. But, um, that day Gramm was speaking for McCain, explaining McCain's economic policies to the Wall Street Journal editorial board. [D'oh.]

* McCain called the fundamental funding mechanism of Social Security a "disgrace," essentially attacking the whole program. [There goes Florida]

* McCain released list of 300 economists who supposedly support his economic plan. Guess what? Not all of them do. [whoops]

* The Maverick himself, became visibly uncomfortable when asked whether health plans that cover Viagara should also cover birth control for women (after McCain surrogate/adviser Carly Fiorina raised this issue). [my personal favorite. his face was classic]

* Johnny jokes about killing Iranians with cigarette imports. [johnny, johnny, johnny, you got a terrible sense of humor]

* He then attacked Obama for not voting for a bill designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist group. Whoops--McCain didn't vote for the bill, either. [must of just slipped his mind]

* McCain's campaign accused Obama of flip-flopping on Iraq.'s truth-o-meter said that's not true. [who should I believe? the truth-o-meter or John McCain; hmmm]

* Who can forget this classic-- He denied ever saying he's not an expert on the economy. Well, he said it. [selective amnesia, anyone?]

* McCain wants to stay in Iraq for as long as it takes and routinely blasts Obama as a defeatist for proposing a timetable for withdrawal. Yet Iraqi leaders said they now want to set up a timetable. [double d'oh]

* The John McCain campaign is accused of screening reporters allowed to ask questions on its conference calls for the media, and did not declare, we do not screen. [but but but Im a maverick, i can do anything]

* John McCain claimed to have a perfect voting record on veterans affairs. Veterans groups disagree. (Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America gave him a grade of D.) [He gets an F in economics and then a D in vets affairs; I hope he at least got an A in gym]

* He then pledged to cut the deficit by end of his first term. Prominent experts said not possible. [oh noes]

* McCain campaign ad charged that Obama voted to raise taxes on people making as little as $32,000 a year. said its false. [liar, liar pants on fire]

* Pro-McCain RNC ad said Obama has no new energy solutions. But Obama proposes $150 billion in new tax credits for alternative energy. [darn those pesky facts readily available on teh internets]

All in all, it just hasn't been a good week for John McCain. I'll throw him a bone. I have to admit the 'im not expert on the economy' gaffe/denial incident is from last week.  So I guess that means it hasn't been a good 2 weeks for McShame [yes shame]

JUNE: 14 gaffes and counting; Thats almost a gaffe a day. If this keeps up we can expect 92 more gaffes out of McCain before November.

uupppdate: shit; make that 15 and counting- In Pennsylvania, McCain Tells a New Version of Heroic P.O.W. Story -- Subbing the Pittsburgh Steelers for the Green Bay Packers;

uupppdateX2: shitx2; Well well well- "I'll do everything in my power to get those offshore reserves exploited ... um, er, explored, discovered and um..." McCain said at a townhall meeting in Wisconsin, when talking about offshore drilling. The crowd laughed [apparently johnny got a little tongue tied; freudian slip much?] ---shout out to beren for this one

seriously this is like the gift that keeps on giving. or like bunnies, they just keep on multiplying-

aww.. here comes the water works

16 and counting;

Re: i finally get to rec a diary of yours!!!!

right? finally- cant say im much of a writer, the school year basically stole whatever passion i had for writing out of me. now i can only write stuff if there is a serious fire raging under my arse.

i disagree with you there.  you are a great writer.  as spacey said - your distinct flava of writing is both quirky and meaningful.  looking forward to seeing more of them!

I really dig your comments (love the quirky style) and most bring a smile to my face. Glad I can rec. this diary!

[ McCain = Bush ]

What I find interesting is the deafening silence from our resident Obama-bashers whenever a diary is posted that shows McCain's faults and weaknesses. They jump all over every diary that says anything negative about Obama, but they are nowhere around when it comes to something like this. Take a look at the rec list for any negative McCain diary. Take a look at any rec list from an anti-Obama diary, for instance the one about Michelle that is on the diary list right now. Could they be any more obvious about where their true loyalty lies?

Re: really?

Huh? Where did you get the idea I was talking about you? I obviously wasn't talking about you since you rec'd this diary. Just because you are hard on Obama at times doesn't make you an Obama-hater. Surely you can think of some names that fit that description? Do you see any of those names on the rec list for this diary?

i think we are misunderstanding...

eachother.  i thought you said that there was an anti-michelle diary on the rec list - but i didnt see it so i posted mine.  then i went back and reread your comment and you said diary list.

crossed wires. ;)

Re: i think we are misunderstanding...

Yeah, we did have a misunderstanding. I thought you meant those were the diaries you had rec'd. I thought maybe you thought I was including you in the group I was talking about. Sorry about that.
