Thank god for giving us Obama! Long live the queen!

M. Obama's Comments in MilwaukeeSays to Milwaukee audience while stumping for her husband:

"What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback. And let me tell you something -- for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. I've seen people who are hungry to be unified around some basic common issues, and it's made me proud."

Re: Thank god for giving us Obama! Long live the q

Its incredibly ironic to read this from a supporter of the woman who, four months ago, was running an "inevitability" campaign.

The media

and some supporters were running that campaign. I thought it was stupid then, and I think the Obama version of it is stupid now.

I thought Obama was God...

So I guess he just thanks himself!

she is

40 something and this is the only thing in all those years that has made her "really proud"?

What are those common "issues" that Obama is talking about that is unifying?

Dangerous.

I too am terrified of her.

Re: Dangerous.

Don't worry--when Obama becomes president he will "mend the hole in your soul" too. And then you'll you'll no longer be terrified. Michelle has promised it.

Dangerous?

No. Misguided? Maybe. Full of the O spirit? Most likely.

Re: Thank god for giving us Obama

OK, she stepped in it on that one.  But, she's not the candidate.

Re: Thank god for giving us Obama

Just the candidate's spouse. Her comments should have equal weight to anything Bill Clinton says. Or has said. Already Drudge is running with this. Obama's wife never before proud of the US or some such. Great right wing talking point. He will get this thrown at him all the way to November.

She's not an ex-President,

so it doesn't carry as much weight.  Drudge only ran with it for a little while, but it wasn't on the front page too long.

Re: Thank god for giving us Obama

I wish that you could dismiss it like that. However, that is not how the media reacted to Bill's comments.

Re: She's not an ex-President

But she is the spouse and in a sense a "super-surrogate" of her husband's.

by HillaryKnight08 2008-02-18 06:12PM | 0 recs
Agreed, but

still she won't get the attention Bill would get.

Re: Thank god for giving us Obama! Long live the q

I've read a few comments in the right wing blog.  And they aren't very happy about this remark.

Re: Thank god for giving us Obama! Long live the q

If I had been writing for her, I would have had her say, "And let me tell you something - in my entire lifetime, I have never been prouder of my country."

That line would have had at least as strong an impact on the crowd, and wouldn't have gotten her husband's campaign in trouble.

(The "Adult" part I'm not sure of. Was that meant to be an opening for a question leading to an anecdote about a childhood experience that made her proud?)

God does not exist. And we do not need a king.
And we do not need a Cult. And by the way - get a life.

I'm no flag-waiver...

but how can any American truly say they have never been proud of America?  I hope for Michelle's own sake this was a mistatement.

I mean, despite all the problems we've faced and still face, and despite all the injustices that have occurred and still occur in our country, there are so many things to be proud of: our Constitution and Bill of Rights, the Civil Rights movement, our myriad cultural and scientific contributions to the world... just to name a very, very few.
