I will Not Vote For An Obama-Hillary Ticket

AAPP: I'm with James Clyburn, the House of Representatives majority whip who said: "At some point, she needs to congratulate the man for having won. Those kinds of things are important to us who grew up in the South with these kinds of slights. That speech cannot be seen as anything but a slight."

http://aapoliticalpundit.blogspot.com/20 08/06/i-will-not-vote-for-obama-hillary. html

Candidly, both Hillary and Bill Clinton have alienated black voters and other Obama supporters with their continued attacks on his character, race and cultural background.

Yep----Just as I suspected many of the

Hillary Haters were not really Obama supporters in the first place.  They were Republican trolls looking to divide our party via Operation Chaos.  Now that we are united,  they have no place else to go.  Look for them to attempt to fuel people's primary resentments and extend them all the way to November.

Best thing we can do is to recognize them for what they are---and not get distracted in our goal to defeat McCain.

Re: I will Not Vote For An Obama-Hillary Ticket

Perhaps we should just exile the Clintons to Siberia?  Would that make you happy?

Obama won this contest fair and square, but he BARELY won.  You may want to put Hillary out to pasture but she has a base of supporters who won't put up with that.

Get over it.

Re: I will Not Vote For An Obama-Hillary Ticket

Screw Clyburn. He is an  asshole pork barrel earmarker who gleefully injected race into the contest in South Carolina. After all the two Clintons have done for the AA community this is the definition of ingratitude. If Barack loses in Nov it will only be because of jerks like Clyburn.

by rocky 2008-06-07 07:07AM | 0 recs
clowns like him

are what may have brought out racial resentments. People playing the race card to get their way, along with the likes Jesse Jackson Jr. don't help this. I'm am just waiting for these losers to blame the Clintons if Obama loses.

With all due respect...

...the Obama camp are masters at certain aspects of this game...including knowing how to exert pressure on key opinion leaders to move them into alignment with their goals.

There are dozens and dozens of stories about how the Obama camp pressed certain delegates to come over to their side, and I'm certain the Clyburn was on the business end of much of that pressure, too.

This past Tuesday, there were countless stories and references to key Clinton delegates and opinion leaders--all elected officials--being threatened with primary opposition and related, practical political retribution, if they didn't get in line behind Obama.

I want to be clear here, I do NOT view this as a negative as far as the Obama camp's activities are concerned. They are masters at the craft of politics. It's what they do. It's what they should do. And, it's what they did. I'm sure the Clinton campaign engaged in the same tactics. I don't hold it against either campaign.

But, I'm sure--I'm virtually certain in fact--that just like Congressman Lewis in neighboring Georgia--Clyburn was subjected to intense pressure to move into alignment with Obama's other key supporters, and to do so before the results were in this past Tuesday.

I don't think a quick rush to judgement against Clyburn is appropriate. In fact, I don't think any adverse judgement of Clyburn's actions is appropriate, especially now that this is water under the bridge.

We'll probably never know all the factors affecting his decision to do what he did when he did as far as this type of thing's concerned. And, more importantly, at this point, it's irrelevant.

by bobswern 2008-06-07 08:04AM | 0 recs
Re: With all due respect...

This is not a rush to judgment.

Clyburn claimed he was neutral until last Tuesday.

The truth is he has used the power of his position,  and by his words and actions put himself squarely in the Obama camp before the South Carolina primary.

He helped nurture the lie that the Clintons are racists.

What you consider water under the bridge is considered by some Clinton supporters to be an egregious act that should not be forgotten.

by feelfree 2008-06-07 08:31AM | 0 recs
whoa.

hang on bob.  didnt clyburn commit on of the most egregious smears on HRC (IMHO)?  namely that a couple of months ago - he said it was the clintons plan to destroy BO so that she could run in 2012.  thats like wingbat internet talk and the highest ranking AA in the govt is parroting this all over the media?  he ought to be ashamed.

Fine,

You would appear not to trust Barack Obama's judgment if it's his judgment that his and the country's best interests are served by such a ticket.  So tell me, why were you for Obama in the first place if you couldn't trust him to make such a decision?

this is not abuse

he deserved the rating. never accuse another candidate of being a GOP plant. he did. after all, we are supposed to be espousing unity, not division. that comment deserved the hide rate.

no, he refered to a polling result that was reported and never claimed HRC was a 'plant', totally unjustified.

As has been pointed out elsewhere no matter what happens from now until the end of time Bill Clinton will ALWAYS be the 42nd President and the only two term Democrat in over 40 years. Its not helpful to the party to keep this BS up.

This diary is not only grossly divisive, but downright belligerent and irrelevant!

It's as if the diarist has been in a coma for the past few days and decided upon coming out of unconsciousness that the first thing they were going to do was post something on MyDD!

Re: That makes you an idiot.

LET me see...you want Hillary Clinton's voters, but you...do not believe she should be on the SAME ticket...

Okay, the way I see it: Obama will make his choice on being on the ticket, and it's Hillary supporters right to make their choice for president...

IN REGARDS TO FOLLOWING THE RULES, this is not RUSSIA or Some SOCIALISM/COMMUNISM GOVERNMENT. (IF THESE ARE CONSIDERED THE NEW PARADIGMS OF THE PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT, THEN COUNT ME OUT!)

I'm an American and I follow the spirit of the Law and not the Letter (especially considering what the SuperDelegates have done).

Obama supporters, keep in mind that Hillary is not doing this for you, but for unifying the Democratic Party. You going to need their votes or face a split in the party...

Wrong

This attitude is just as poisonous as "I won't vote for Obama because of the sexism." A refusal to vote for Obama is a tacit (or explicit) vote for McCain. And that means lax enforcement of civil rights laws, more racist Justice Department policies, and a Supreme Court hostile to the rights of minorities.

Amazing.

You would reject the first viable AA candidate for the presidency, simply because you don't like that mean white lady? That's beyond pathetic. It's also incredibly petty and nearly incomprehensible, especially considering how hard Clinton supporters like myself plan to work for Obama.

You are the definition of absurd. Kindly bugger off. Thanks in advance.

Re:

This kind of hateful, divisive nonsense doesn't help party unity.

Everything Clinton did was twisted by some Obama supporters. So she concedes today rather than on tuesday, how is that a slight?

Re: I will Not Vote For An Obama-Hillary Ticket

Oh Feh! JFK and LBJ hated eachother and their supporters were very different. Somehow they managed. FDR and Truman hated eachother. Somehow they managed.

I endorsed Obama shortly before the NY primary. But I would have voted for and worked for Hillary had she won. To not vote for the two as a team is just plain foolish. You want me reading your stuff, you better start with a less foolish premise.

Oh please, you and Clyburn get over yourselves already. The Hispanics are right at your heels and will stamp out this lop-sided advantage in the near future. Don't forget even Obama has to turn West in search of more votes. You and Clyburn have maxed out the race thing and let's face it, even Obama is not listening to you.

Its funny that you and Clyburn only have the stomach to fight fellow Democrats like Bill Clinton, one of the few presidents who raised African American living standards. You show less intensity and anger against George Bush who has reduced African American gains virtual economic rubble; to foreclosures, bankruptcy, worsening child mortality and ill health. You can't even tell  your enemies from your allies I feel sorry for you.
