A Secessionist Brew at a Texas Tea Party

Down in Austin, the local Tea Party yesterday was brewing talk of secession. Perhaps that's not terribly newsworthy but it is the who was brewing that dangerous elixir that is, well, hard to believe. Here's Governor, yes, Governor Rick Perry of Texas talking about Texas' right to secede. It's worth a listen:

"Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that," Perry said. "My hope is that America and Washington in particular pays attention. We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, who knows what may come of that. But Texas is a very unique place, and we're a pretty independent lot to boot."

I miss Molly Ivins at moments like this. Lord, what would she have made of this Texas-size demagogue? Is there a virus going around that has caused conservatives to go insane? It is one thing for a clown like Glenn Beck or a fool like Chuck Norris who wants to run for President of Texas to stoke the embers of secessionist rebellion but a sitting Governor?

On the topic of incentive and accountability.

I read Bob Burnett's excellent and timely post yesterday over at HuffPo, entitled "Bush's Day of Reckoning."  I recommend reading it in its entirety.  The topic is whether or not to proceed with criminal investigations of Bush, Cheney & their ilk over torture and any other violations of the Constitution.  Bob does point out that incompetence is not a crime and focuses on things like ordering torture or illegal spying on Americans, which are crimes.

He points out that Congress will not take the lead on prosecution because they rolled over for Bush & Cheney at every opportunity.  So, it comes down to Obama to take the lead on cleaning up the US Government, its checks & balances and the Constitution.  In other words: the rule of law.

The Genocide of America.

Is the United States of America the world's largest dealer of illegal drugs?  What about the world's largest gun runner?  For years our government has used the CIA, NSA & other super-secret 'intelligence' agencies to cultivate drug harvest and distribution in SE Asia and Afghanistan.  We offer 'aid' and 'trade' to countries in the forms of weapons and ammunition.  The drugs come home to the US to poison and kill our own population.  The weapons we sell are used either against us directly by people to kill others, who then seek to kill Americans.  Did the founding fathers envision a country that would become the world's largest debtor and blood merchant?

"Country First" means spy on Americans first.

Here's another affirmation that the GOP is buried in the mindset of Nixon and Stalin.  Wikileaks and the ACLU (MN) have recently covered the super secret security briefing from the RNC that indicates the usage of the US Military against law abiding US citizens.  Another 'dragnet' surveillance conducted by paranoid tyrants in the party of hate and lobbyists (aka GOP).

In a nutshell, the party that loves (using) the military (to seize power and make fortunes) - the GOP, used military spy satellites to spy on US citizens.  This should come as no surprise, given the Bush/Cheney dictatorship's penchant for spying on us all.

Whats Your Favorite Alcoholic Beverage?

Well, its Sunday afternoon and the bickering and rancor go on and on. Since it seems that nothing new is to be said until Tuesday Night I thought that maybe a diary in a different vein might be in order. My hero, Franklin Delano Roosevelt did more to help the common man and was a great leader during World War II. But did you also know that he campaigned on repealing Prohibition. On December 5th, 1933 the 21st Amendment became part of the Constitution. So here's a question to the MyDD bloggers, what is your favorite adult beverage if you do drink? I am basically a beer drinker. I like plain old Budweiser. Its American, its Union Made and its affordable. I like Old Grand Dad Bourbon once in a while. Whats your Favorite?
