Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has been called a lot of names. Here's another one for him: cheater.
It's not surprising Steele and the Republicans are embarrassed about their party. But Steele has hit a new low (insert Munch's "Scream" here): He's set up an RNC fundraising page on Facebook made to look like it's the United Steelworkers union.
The "United STEELE Workers Union" page even features a hard hat with an American flag sticker front and center.
Just curious, Michael: Doesn't a white hard hat clash with your designer suits?

Cross-posted at BryanBarash.com, where I gather my thoughts on politics and technology
I've been thinking a lot lately about the EFCA, as Congress prepares to debate and news stories fly that labor may be willing to make a concession on the highest profile of the issues contained in EFCA, which is Card Check.
For those who don't know, Card Check means that if 50% of employees check a card saying they want a union, the business must recognize that and negotiate with them in good faith. Right now they can organize a union that way, but often companies refuse to recognize the union, which is currently legal.
Continue below the break for my explanation of a possible way forward that protects both workers rights AND the secret ballot.

Walmart's hometown newspaper, the Northwest Arkansas Morning News, has an interesting article up today about Walmart executives meeting with 200 of their cronies at a conference and outlining their plans for 2009. It could be a watershed year for progressives, but the Bentonville behemoth has some plans of its own and they ain't pretty.
So I thought I'd go through each one of Walmart's plans and translate some of their PR spin - or wipe the lipstick off the pig, if you will. All stats and figures are compliments of WakeUpWalmart.com, with whom I do some work.

Sometimes humor is the best medicine.
This is funny, I enjoyed it, I could fake more filler in this diary but this is the point.

This has not been picked up by many outlets - it's on CNN:
Firefighters union backs Obama
(CNN) - A major firefighters union will throw its support behind Barack Obama during its annual convention in Las Vegas on Thursday.
Obama, who is on vacation with his family in Hawaii, taped a message that will be played in front of the 3,500 members of the International Association of Fire Fighters at around 2pm E.T.
The union chose to back Obama over John McCain because of the presumptive Democratic nominee's support of collective bargaining, which gives workers the right to jointly work with their employers to negotiate hours, salaries, benefits and overall working conditions, IAFF spokesman Scott Treibitz said.
