Good McCain article from unexpected source

Every now and then I am amazed to see reporting like the following. We all know how the press adores John McCain, and always gives him a pass on the issues, while intensely grilling the Democratic candidates. With more honest examinations like this one, and the maverick may actually have a few difficult questions to answer. Please note, the author of this piece is normally not what you would call an, left-winger. In fact, he normally gushes with praise for all things Republican. Not this time, strangely enough. Enjoy this breath of fresh air! nists/chi-oped0306chapmanmar06,0,4554495 .column

Demand Reid and Pelosi are removed from leadership positions

As Senate Majority Leader, Senator Harry Reid, and Speaker of the House, Representative Nancy Pelosi have cravenly betrayed the trust of the American people, and violated their oaths of office, when they have given in (or sided with?) George W. Bush. They made lots of promises when we gave them the chance to take the majority, but betrayed each and every one. Given how bad the situation is in the United States at present, we can not afford to continue to allow those two frauds to retain their leadership positions. We have to demand they be removed from those positions by their colleagues in the congress.. our representatives and senators.

Reprinted from The Satirical Political Report

Tired of Bill Safire's annual "Office Pool" column in The New York Times? -- the 2007 version of which appeared today. Sick of his not-so-subtle slants to reflect his right-wing wish list? Well, here then, is the only Office Pool you need, the First Annual "Office Satire Pool" for 2007:

1. George Bush will:

(a) stay the course, (b) give in to his urge to surge, (c) cut and run, (d) cut his wrists.

I hope for (d), but fear it'll be (b).

2. Dick Cheney will push for the invasion of:

(a) Iran, (b) Syria, (c) Iraq, all over again, (d) The Democratic-controlled House and Senate.

My pick: All of the above.

3. Osama bin Laden will:

(a) be captured while dining with Pakistan President Musharraf, (b) take over as the lead anchor on Al Jazeera, (c) be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Bush, for ensuring W's re-election.

The answer is (a), but you won't hear about it, since Bush needs both Musharraf and bin Laden.

4. Which politician's platform to battle the E. coli threat will be most ridiculed:

(a) Hillary Clinton's centrist-tacking "All meat should be safe, legal and rare," (b) John McCain's "Send in more bacteria," (c) John Kerry's "How do you ask a man to die for a last steak."

Obviously (c), which will be played to death by the Swift Meat Company veterans.

5. Which position will the extreme Right-Wing do a dramatic reversal on:

(a) abortion, (b) tax cuts for the wealthy, (c) global warming, (d) human cloning.

The correct answer is (d) human cloning, which has already occurred, based on the fact that Pat Buchanan appears simultaneously on every cable news station.

Tx-19: A Prairie Dog's Pathetic Dog-and-Pony Show

You'll never guess what was number one on Prairie Dog Randy's wishlist this weekend.  Ok, maybe you will.  If you said, "Kneejerk tax cuts," then give yourself a big fat cookie.  Apparently, everyone in Fisher County has better things to do than hear a Prairie Dog spout nonsense:

Neugebauer, R-Lubbock, spoke to 12 people, including his staff and news media, at the community center in Roby. Earlier Tuesday, he stopped in Rotan.

So, if we subtract his staff, who had to be there, and the news media, who were there to get a paycheck, we are talking about what - 2 people?  Did anyone check their pulse?  Did Randy wander into the morgue (again?)?

Estate Tax Repeal: Pay No Attention to the Man Behind the Curtain

On June 22 the U.S. House of Representatives approved a resolution to consider a bill to permanently eliminate the Estate Tax (skillfully spun by the Republican neo-cons as "death tax").

If Congress approves this bill and it is signed into law, it will mean our treasury will realize an additional deficit of  $283,000,000,000 (that's BILLION) over the next decade, a time when our soaring national deficit can least afford this additional blow.
