Congress Prefers Our Food Be Grown in China (Kansas Congressional Race - District 1)

Agriculture is not only integral to very history and culture of Kansas, it is absolutely fundamental to our state's economic success.

Making all Kansans proud, our farmers lead our nation in the production of wheat and sorghum, and rank a close second to the top in cattle and calves. Our vibrant agricultural industry produces enormous variety, with substantial production in corn, soybean, sunflower, hogs and pigs, pheasants, dairy, hay, and many other essential products.

As congressman representing 69 counties in western and central Kansas, I will always speak out on behalf of the family farmers in Kansas, to promote the needs of agriculture, and in opposition to market concentration.

Filling the gas tank is a major expenditure that many families are finding too difficult to afford.

I consider the cost of gasoline and I ask: Are our congressmen making thousands of dollars on the legislation that they enact? Do their votes translate into personal profits for them?

The Job: Restoring the Heart of America

Kansas sits right in the heartland of our United States. The Congressional First District, comprised of central and western Kansas, is the true heartland of Kansas. Thus, we of the First District, are the very heart of our great nation.

Yet, for some time now, I have observed that our needs and priorities have been mostly ignored by our government in Washington. We have all watched with dismay as our current representatives in Congress continually vote to cut essential programs like Medicare, farm programs, student loans and veterans benefits. At the same time, our representatives have increased the national debt by overspending on no-bid government contracts, the war in Iraq, and through generous tax-supported gifts to profitable multinational corporations...

Checks, Balances, and Duty to Vote

Dear Friends, I am a Democrat running for the US Congress from Kansas District 1.

As a school teacher, I always found it exciting to elaborate on why our founding fathers, which had just beaten the most powerful army in the world, were so meticulous about assuring that no branch of government would become too powerful.

The founding fathers wanted to ensure the new national government would not operate above the law and that ALL citizens' individual rights would be protected from the abuse by the national government...
