Mike Signer for Lt Gov

Hey guys - despite what some folks on MyDD might think, I'm a commited Democrat looking to help fellow Democrats get elected.

So that being said, I'm posting up some info about a fundraiser for Mike Signer, a really good guy running for LG in Virginia.  Please excuse my ham-handed attempt to raise money for a political candidate...(there's a reason I don't do this professionally).

Without further ado, then, here is my pitch:

I am, along with members of Foreign Policy Professionals for Obama, hosting a fundraiser for a Democratic candidate for Virginia Lt Gov, under the theme of the importance of electing foreign policy/national security progressives to state-level office because today's state legislator is tomorrow's Member of Congress!

Mike Signer was a foreign policy advisor to John Edwards during the last Presidential campaign, speaking frequently and passionately about the importance of how America engages the world. Mike also has a very strong background on Homeland Security; he was deputy counselor to former Governor Warner on Homeland Security and National Guard policy. He also served as senior policy advisor and director of the Homeland Security Presidential Transition Initiative at the Center for American Progress, and is a principal at the Truman National Security Project.

Please join me on June 1 to help support a great candidate for office.  Go to: http://www.mikesigner.com/newl... if you are interested! And if you think the guy is worth a shot, you should forward this on to your friends as well!

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel for Barack Obama

I have not been active on the blogs lately, but I did want to pass on this little nugget I just found at RCP.

Springsteen, Joel team up for Obama
The Associated Press

Rock stars Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel are teaming up for their first joint concert to benefit Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

Obama plans to attend the concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on Oct. 16, the day after Obama's final debate
...

Seeing the two superstars together won't come cheap. Tickets start at $500 and range up to $10,000.

I guess this is a good team up. I know many people who like one or the other but usually not both, so this may help to attract a wider audience. Maybe your experience is different.

McCain Gets A Not-So-Friendly Welcome To Atlanta

On one side of Peachtree Center Avenue, members of Georgia's organized labor community held up "Teamsters for Obama" signs and picketed in front of the Mariott Marquis hotel chanting, "Bush, McCain, Same Thing." On the other side of the street, anti-war protestors, armed with bullhorns, led several cadences of "McCain says warfare, we say healthcare."

There's no word if John McCain saw or heard any of the demonstrations against his Atlanta visit today but nevertheless, the several dozen protestors gathered downtown this afternoon intended to express their dissent at a John McCain presidency.

Among those in attendance at the protest were state Democratic Party Chair Jane Kidd and state Sen. David Adelman (D - Atlanta) who used John McCain's visit to highlight his ties to controversial Republican Ralph Reed.

"We are here today on the streets of Atlanta with real Georgians who are struggling and need our support. Later today, inside this fancy hotel, John McCain will be meeting with Jack Abramoff's colleague Ralph Reed and other lobbyists to hear about their clients," Kidd said at a press conference directly across the street from most of the protestors.

"Instead of meeting with Georgians and hearing from us about what we need from our country, John McCain has chosen to talk only with people who are giving him thousands of dollars."

In recent days, Ralph Reed and his connections to disgraced Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff have been the target of criticisms from Democrats after the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that he had agreed to serve on McCain's "Victory 2008" fundraising team.  Associated Press reports say that "Reed's public relations firm...received $4.2 million from Abramoff to mobilize Christian voters to fight the opening of casinos that could compete with Abramoff's Indian tribe clients." [Source:  Associated Press, "McCain nets $1.75 million at Reed-linked event", August 18, 2008]

Also, according to the AP, John McCain raised over a million dollars at the "Ralph Reed-linked" event.

64% To Goal!!! My Son Gabe's 2nd Birthday $5 Obama Fundraiser

$320 Raised!!! $180 to go!!!

Gabe's 2nd Birthday $5 Obama Fundraiser Link

My son Gabe (Gabro) turns 2 years old on July 18, 4 days away. In the last two years, his mother and I have been blessed with the fact that he has been healthy, playful, social, and loving. For those who have had the chance to spend even a small amount of time with him, I think they can agree that those are just a few of his overall characteristics. We are also blessed to know that he loves NPR in the car, has his own "Daddy's lil Democrat" tshirt, has had "Lefty" the beanie baby donkey in his crib/bed since he was born, and understands the necessity to severely limit Fox News in the household he tends to spit up when watching it) :)

So far, we have $320 raised, 64% of our goal.

In Gabe's name, his mother and I would like to raise money for Senator Obama in Gabe's name so that he may grow up in a much better, safe, stable, and more caring world, based on morals and dignity. As some may know, I had worked on Senator Obama's campaign, volunteering during the primaries in two states and am involved in his general election campaign. My family have always maintained that to care is to hope, and to hope is to risk. I believe that encapsulates everything that I could say about his campaign and the people involved, which I have had an honor of meeting as a volunteer.

For his 1st birthday, his mother and I asked that people donate money for MS research in his name. Every birthday, we will choose a new cause. Don't get me wrong, he still gets spoiled with gifts :) To commemorate Gabe's 2nd birthday, Cara and I are asking others to donate just $5 (the bare minimum allowed on the webiste) to the Obama campaign using the link below. Our goal is to raise $500 for Senator Obama in Gabe's name by his 2nd birthday on July 18th just with individual $5 donations. Feel free to donate more if you wish though :) We believe this can be a very reachable goal if friends, family, Democrats, Republicans, and other Obama supporters help out. I do understand that some may not be supporters, and even if you decide not to donate, please keep Gabe in your prayers so that he may live life with the highest ideals possible.

We are already 64% away from our goal. Remember, we are asking only for the minimum $5 donation. Please help us reach our goal of $500.

Thank you very much.
