Madison, Wisconsin -- Several major American religious right figures signing an anti-Iraqi withdrawal statement were previously identified by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) as extremists assaulting tolerance and pluralism in America.
A group of 44 right-wing, extremist American leaders released a Declaration on Monday urging the continuation of American policy in Iraq and warning of catastrophic consequences if America withdrawals from Iraq.
Several individuals signing the document were blasted in the ADL's 1994 publication, "The Religious Right: An Assault on Tolerance and Pluralism in America," that warned that "an exclusionist religious movement in this country has attempted to restore what it perceives as the ruins of a Christian nation by more closely seeking to unite its version of Christianity with state power."

Bumped from the diaries and slightly reformatted -- Jonathan... This is bad. This is really bad. It's evocative of then-candidate Ronald Reagan's speech near Philadelphia, Mississippi, where he proclaimed support for "states' rights" not far from the murder of civil rights workers two decades earlier. What's more, it's not the first time that Romney has taken actions that are perceived to be insensitive to the Jewish community. Poor form all around, Mitt. Poor form.

Thanks to the National Jewish Democratic Council for breaking this:
The National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) expressed its deep concerns today about Republican Mitt Romney's decision to announce his candidacy for President from the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit, Michigan. Located on grounds formally owned by Ford, the museum is a testament to the life of Henry Ford, a notorious anti-Semite and xenophobe whose belief that Jews were second-class, inferior citizens were expressed in detail in his writings on his theory of Americanization. Ford was also bestowed with the Grand Service Cross of the Supreme Order of the German Eagle by Adolph Hitler.
Interestingly, Romney's website only mentions that he is announcing from "Michigan," with no mention of the Henry Ford Museum.

The diary below was originally posted in my blog the Intrepid Liberal Journal, yesterday September 16th when this interview took place.
San Diego University's Associate Professor of Religion, Khaleel Mohammed, PH.D is a controversy magnet. Born in the South American republic of Guyana and educated at Montreal's McGill University, Professor Mohammed is a Muslim who believes Israel belongs to the Jews. Indeed, Professor Mohammed even references the Koran to support this claim. In an interview with FrontPageMagazine.com two years ago, he cited this passage:
The Koran in Chapter 5: 20-21 states quite clearly: `Moses said to his people: O my people! Remember the bounty of God upon you when He bestowed prophets upon you, and made you kings and gave you that which had not been given to anyone before you amongst the nations. O my people! Enter the Holy Land which God has written for you, and do not turn tail, otherwise you will be losers.'"

Recently I've been thinking of my grandfather. I didn't know him well because he died when I was 8. As I reflect upon his life, my memories of him and the numerous anecdotes I've been told - I can't help but wonder what he would think of our country today.
Irving Rosenberg's story resembles that of many immigrants from his generation. At the age of 16 he escaped Poland prior to Hitler's September 1939 invasion with his six brothers. His father was a man of great foresight and correctly diagnosed the storm that was brewing from Nazi Germany. My great grandmother opposed her children leaving for America and even chased my grandfather with a broomstick prior to his departure. Thankfully she didn't get her way or I never would've been born.
