Up All Night

Earlier tonight, I stood on the floor of the Senate to show my support for our men and women in uniform by trying to bring them home.

As you know, the Senate held a rare all-night session because Republicans are filibustering our efforts to get an up or down vote on re-deploying our troops out of Iraq.

It's that simple.

Obama playing politics with Iraq

I know that MyDD is full of Obama lovers and Hillary haters; it seems that whenever you praise Sen. Clinton, people bring up the old issues and bash her about it, but is Sen. Obama says or does something that appears wrong, then folks come and pretend that he is still in a "learning phase".

Well, now, let's take Iraq. Sen. Clinton had made an announced call for a speech in Iowa today to talk about Iraq at length, with her recent op-ed in the New York Daily News with Sen. Byrd of West Virginia. Sensing that he is losing ground to Hillary among voters who trust her experience and doubt his ability (rightfully so.. to some extent), he also announced his own speech for Iraq FIVE MINUTES away from Hillary's speech podium. Maybe he will blame his staff for this mistake, AGAIN!

What does Bush Mean by "Fascism"?

The Bush administration is employing a new term to support their illegal war in Iraq.  They're now saying that they are battling "Islamic fascism." Not knowing what the exact definition of  "fascist" was, I decided to look it up on the internet encyclopedia and dictionary, Wikipedia.  This is how they defined fascism:

Fascism is a radical political ideology that combines elements of corporatism, authoritarianism, nationalism, militarism, anti-anarchism, anti-communism, and anti-liberalism.

I decided that I needed to further understand what each of these terms meant, so I explored the Wikipedia definitions for each.  Boy, was I surprised by what I found!!

1)    Corporatism:  "Historically, corporatism...is a political system in which legislative power is given to civic assemblies that represent economic, industrial, agrarian, and professional groups.  Unlike pluralism, in which many groups must compete for control of the state, in corporatism, certain unelected bodies take a critical role in the decision-making process." Hmm.  Does the fact that the insurance and pharmaceutical companies wrote the Medicare prescription bill, or that big oil companies helped write the energy bill, or that subsidiaries of Halliburton are awarded lucrative, multi-year, no-bid contracts for billions of dollars in Iraq sound like corporatism to you?

Bush & Company In Same League With a $5 Tarot Card Reader!

But Some Deceptions Are More Harmful Than Others.
Things that elate me last a very long time in my memory. Unfortunately, things that bother me--like when I'm told big lies--also stick around in my mind, as if they're labeled "enemy combatants" and held for an indefinite period of time! So, when the other day, the US's war in Iraq surpassed our involvement in WW2 [1,241 days, from 12/1941 to 5/1945], then some painful memories surfaced! Let's reminisce together. This is what BushCo's regime told the nation:

"I don't know how long the war will last... it could last 6 days, 6 weeks, I doubt 6 months!" US Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, 2/7/03. "I think it'll go relatively quickly... in weeks rather than in months." and, "I think we'll be greeted as liberators!" US Vice-President, Dick Cheney, 3/16/03.
