A so-called 'natural Viagra' was found in Bin Laden's Pakistani compound.

Armageddon Again

I think that this is a long and winding process. But I think at the end of the day, members are not going to want to be in their districts, senators are not going to want to be in their districts when their constituents find out on the 1st of January that their taxes have gone up by several thousand dollars. - Robert Gibbs/Press Secretary

Can someone help me out here; why is it that every time the wealthy in this country are facing any type of loss of income through taxes or corporate malfeasance the situation becomes the onset of Armageddon for the rest of us? Remember the beginning of this “recession” at the end of the Bush Administration that was brought on by the investment community and bankers gambling with our economy? We were on the brink of Armageddon and had to pony up 800 billion dollars to rescue our economy which was being held hostage by the same people who were handing out multi-million dollar bonuses right up until the day of the bail-out.

Now two years later we are faced with another Armageddon this time over tax-cuts for the wealthy. If we don’t extend all the tax-cuts we will have another “great recession”, the stock market will tank, and we will suffer double-digit unemployment. Really. That’s funny when Bill Clinton enacted them not only did our economy not go into free fall, but it actually laid the foundation for one our biggest economic expansions. I agree with Mr. Tom Buffenbarger, President of the Machinist Union when he said that when the Bush tax-cuts were enacted his members who make a decent living barely felt any change and so having them expire will have little effect. He went on to state that for his members it is about sacrifice for the good of the country and if paying a few hundred dollars a year to insure the long-term health of America they would consider it an honor. It would be an honor because they still have jobs.

You Expect Me To Believe ...

Via DailyKos:

Reporter: I guess her statement was that it was unfair that health insurance companies cover Viagra but not birth control. Do you have an opinion on that? ...

McCain: I don't know enough about it to give you an informed answer ...

Flat out, anyone who's been the parent of a teenage daughter has a considered opinion on birth control. And no one in McCain's age and income bracket, male or female, can credibly say that they don't have an opinion on Viagra.

The question is simple. His answer, unbelievable.

I mean, I can believe that he's enough of an overprivileged prat to consider himself above learning how to type, in spite of having a white collar desk job that requires a lot of information processing. But that in spite of campaigning and voting on reproductive health issues for years, having several women in his household, and having the best of gold-plated health insurance for some time now, he doesn't know enough about these topics to answer a very simple question, I can't believe.

There's just no way that even a Republican is quite that out of touch with his surroundings and the people in his life.

Rush Limbaugh Arrested? New Drug Incident?

I hear Rush Limbaugh was just arrested.  Hopefully I'll get confirmation shortly.

Update: Ok, got it via this diary at Daily Kos. CBS4 in Florida reports:

Sources have confirmed to CBS4 News that conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh has been detained at Palm Beach International Airport for the possible possession of illegal prescription drugs Monday evening.

Limbaugh was returning on a flight from the Dominican Republic when officials found the drugs, among them Viagra.

Limbaugh entered a plea deal back in April in a previous case where his charge of fraud to conceal information to obtain prescriptions was dropped under the condition he continue undergoing treatment for addiction.

Limbaugh had admitted to being addicted to pain killers on his radio program and had entered a rehabilitation program prior to that arrest.

Is that too much information? Yeah, I thought so too.

Update again: He wasn't arrested, but there's something going on.

Update, yet again: Here's a statement from his lawyer:

Roy Black, Rush Limbaugh's attorney, issued the following statement today in response to several inquiries by the media:

While going through routine Customs inspection of luggage at Palm Beach International Airport upon his return from an international trip, Rush Limbaugh was detained by customs agents after they noticed a non-narcotic prescription drug, which had been prescribed by Mr. Limbaugh's treating physician but labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes. After a brief interview, Mr. Limbaugh was permitted to continue on his journey.

That was fast.
