Bumped - Todd
With the Democratic nomination contest finally over, Democrats now have the opportunity to put the rancor of last many months behind them and unite to defeat the Republicans in November by taking the White House and adding to our leads in the House and Senate.
Among the most important issues that will arise for the next administration is the question of accountability for the villains that preceded it in the Executive Branch. Yesterday on Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Richard Clarke suggested a "Truth and Reconciliation Commission". Some would go farther, others less far.
But few in American politics today have as much personal knowledge and experience with the Bush Administration's lies and its mafia-style intimidation as Ambassador Joe Wilson, whom clammyc and I will be interviewing today at 2pmPST/5pmEST. And topic we'll be covering? Accountability for Bush and his cronies after that glorious day on which they leave office.

Anyone in Los Angeles, I wanted to let you know about a very cool small dollar fundraiser going on tonight at 6:30pm. Joe and Valerie Wilson will be in Santa Monica in support of progressive blogger turned congressional candidate, Ron Shepston. Ron is running for the Democratic nomination to face corrupt Republican Gary Miller in California's 42nd district in the fall.
Ron's candidacy is a perfect example of a blogger putting his money where his "we should compete everywhere" mouth is. In 2006, Miller went unopposed in a district that Bush won with 62% of the vote in 2004 even as he was under investigation by the FBI for shady land deals. So Shepston jumped in (read his dailykos candidacy announcement) and now finds himself potentially running against an ethically-challenged incumbent in a district that is just as red as MS-01 where Democrat Travis Childers recently won a special election in a year where Democratic turnout is going to be astronomical.
But he has to win the nomination first, which is where tonight's fundraiser comes in. It's a good thing, of course, that Miller has three potential challengers this year whereas he had zero last cycle, but having met Ron and knowing that his candidacy is of, by and for the grassroots and netroots, I felt absolutely no reservations about pledging $50 to his candidacy tonight to attend what should be a great event. Ron is the absolute right man for this job. It's great to see that Joe and Valerie Wilson feel the same way about Ron that I do.
If you are in the area and can make it tonight, details and how to RSVP can be found at the event's Facebook page. But if you can't, that shouldn't prevent you from donating to Ron's campaign over at ActBlue.

Despite the unwillingness of our Democratic Congress (Rep. Wexler notwithstanding) to do their Constitutional duty to hold the criminals in the Bush Administration accountable for their actions, the major sacrifices made by and injuries done to Valerie Plame, Joe Wilson and their colleagues and associates will not soon be forgotten by those of us who care deeply about our country. This nation owes them a debt of gratitude for their service and their willingness to tell the truth in spite of incredible hostility and pressure from a corrupt and utterly immoral White House and its cronies.
Those progressive patriots of you who live in the Southern California area will have the opportunity to meet Joe Wilson himself at a fundraiser in Beverly Hills tomorrow (Thursday) at 6:30pm for the equally courageous Netroots candidate Ron Shepston. I'll be there as well, for what that's worth!

I don't know how many of you have been following the many messes down here in Southern California when it comes to our CReepy Congresscritters, but I can guarantee you that this has become one giant mess for all of us to deal with. And in particular, there's a scourge on the 42nd District by the name of Gary Miller. He's been repeatedly caught red-handed funneling our tax dollars to his wealthy patrons, seeking out more of our tax dollars to enrich himself, and basically behaving like an all-around crook when he's supposed to be doing the people's business.
But hey, not all has gone wrong down here in Southern California. In fact, there's someone who's stepping up to the plate to get rid of Gary Miller and all his dirty, creepy corruption. Follow me after the flip for more...

This is part of a series of diaries rolling out the Congressional campaign of Ron Shepston -- the veteran, aerospace engineer, athlete, and grandfather whom you may know as CanYouBeAngryAndStillDream. For anyone who doesn't yet know, Ron is running against the ethically-challenged Rep. Gary Miller, who apparently believes that his role in Congress is to make money for his out-of-district friends, in CA-42. I'm running his campaign full-time.
Something significant to our campaign happened yesterday. We met with a representative of the DCCC. More below.
