Feingold res: Reid just horrible on Ed Schultz Show

The Gentle Generalissimo, Harry Reid, gave an interview yesterday to the ND talker, of which I've listened to the first few minutes - and it's cringemakingly bad.

[There's a 14MB MP3 (from this page - which is the home page; this is the MP3 link, which hopefully will be more durable!) I'm in the middle of downloading - I'm in dialup hell!]

Schultz asks him outright whether he supports the Feingold res; Reid says he supports an extended debate on the res.

He goes on to suggest that it's a good thing that the res has been dumped into Judiciary because they can have hearings there.

(Don't bet on any tips from this guy, children!)

Reid, Pelosi let Feingold twist in the wind

I don't like to say I told you so. But I told you so.

AP rounds up the day's (in)action from the Dem side:

Throughout the day, Feingold's fellow Democrats said they understood his frustration but they held back overt support for the resolution.

Why do Dems eat their own???

If this article from Mother Jones is true:

http://motherjones.com/news/update/2006/ 02/hackett_drops_out.html

then the rumors/reports that we've been hearing that the power structure in the Democratic Party forced Hackett out are true.

Why does this happen?  Why does our party always wind up degenerating into intra-party squabbles and power plays rather than turning all of our attention to fighting the damn Republicans?

This mid-term election should have been a big opportunity for us.  Mid-term elections -- especially in a second term -- are generally a disaster for the party of the president in the White House.  Plus, Bush and the Repugs seem very vulnerable.  Yet, I see nothing but confusion from our side.  Is there one issue we actually all agree on and stand together on other than Social Security?

It's over.  Alito is in.  Reid admits there just aren't enough votes.  A sad, bleak day...
