The following is from Dkos:
Pace Fired Because He Balked at Iran
This isn't good news.
THIS IS EXTREMELY OMINOUS
I've been writing for over a year now that the Joint Chiefs have been blocking the White House's efforts to expand the war to Iran. No matter what you might think of Gen. Pete Pace, this really is TERRIFYING news, unless you crave a wider war in the Persian Gulf and South Asia.
Pace has been the most visible symbol of the push-back within the military against the Long War.

Can the turmoil in the Middle East be traced back to the events in 1967? There are many who believe that they can be. It was at that time, 40 years ago that the Israelis were beginning and ending the Six Day war. Some say it was at this moment that the fate of Israel and the Palestinians were both sealed with the fateful decisions made following this war. Have those decisions led to a safer Israel? That is hard to say, but what we do know is that those decisions have fed an ongoing cycle of violence that has no end in sight.

It's time to kick it up a notch in the fight to inject sanity into United States policy toward Iran. Too many anti-war activists are acting complacent about this one, and I'm not sure why. I hope it's not because we already have our own hands full opposing Bush on Iraq, because if that's the case we are far weaker than I want to imagine. I simply refuse to believe that we can't walk and chew gum at the same time because... well just because.

MSNBC has put together a slide-show offering a brief history of Iran. They've managed to go back further than 1979 - impressive for a mainstream outlet, whose memories usually begin with the Islamic revolution.

Wrap your brain around this one. This is why we need a LEADER and a Thinker for President! I am so tired of politics as usual. It is time that we stop thinking so short sighted and open our eyes to what can and should be.
To everyone and especially all of the supporters of other candidates, PLEASE read this article. Maybe twice or three times. Think... what kind of true leader do you want for this country? What kind of real solutions and ideas do you hear from others?
Averting the Next Gulf War
The troop "surge" in Iraq is also a signal to Iran--but stopping Tehran's nukes for good will require a different kind of leverage.
