Misleading Rightwingers Get Called Out by MT Attorney General

Yesterday, Progressive States reported on lobbyist Rick Berman's operation Center for Union Facts (a misleading name, to say the least) putting television ads on the air in four states attacking public employees.

Fortunately, not everyone is taking the attacks without responding in kind.

Bill Clinton & Jennifer Granholm Rally Video

(I posted this at dKos last Friday. But if you haven't seen this here, I thought I would share. It's a pretty rad video.)

Last Tuesday President Clinton was in Taylor Michigan to campaign for Jennifer Granholm's reelection -- up on YouTube now there's a 7-minute highlight reel, which is worth seeing. Very high quality.

Yes, you know that Bill Clinton is a magnetic public speaker, but he's really, really on in this one. Well worth a few minutes out of your day. Maybe someday our President will speak proper English once again. A man can dream.

Follow Up: Tort Victim Tragedies Third Edition - "Cheaper is Better Than Safer"

My August 11th "Tort Tragedies" piece is now buttressed by a recent ruling in the Vioxx trials. On August 17th:

The jury of eight men said Merck was negligent for failing to adequately warn doctors about the risks associated with the drug. The jury also found that Merck "knowingly misrepresented or failed to disclose" information about the drug to the plaintiff's doctors.
(more click here).....Of course, if you live in Michigan, the only state in which drug companies have successfully pushed through full immunity for all drugs at some point approved by the FDA (even if subsequently withdrawn), you are legally precluded from suing because the FDA previously approved the drug.

Alticor lawyers lean on AmQuix critic

Regarding the MI gov race and candidate/Amway heir Dick DeVos (R). Cross-posted at Michigan Liberal and dKos (Michigan)

Mich Lib readers will no doubt remember this article from the GR Press that ran on July 14,"Alticor leaders cheated investors, suit says." Mich Lib  covered the article well, as did other MI bloggers.

Well, there's a twist to the tale. In a post yesterday, Quixtar Blog (not affiliated with Alticor) details how Alticor's lawyers leaned on critic Scott Larsen, author of the  AmQuix.info website to "correct" his site after Larsen wrote a post, "Old news becomes news again for Dick DeVos running for governor in Michigan," directing readers to that same Press article. It seems the company did not appreciate the fact that Larsen did not cover a subsequent article reporting that the suit was thrown out of court.

Larsen received an email from lawyer James R. Sobieraj, outside counsel to Alticor, that ended with these words:

Please take immediate action to correct your website's misleading impression of the Wardrop lawsuit.

We look forward to receiving your response and evidence of your steps to correct your website within 24 hours.

In his post, "Alticor Going Overboard for Dick DeVos?" Quixtar Blog author Eric Janssen offers commentary on this laughable, if pathetic, situation, plus the entire text of the email.

It's definitely worth the read, especially if you understand that Alticor has succeeded in silencing more than one of its critics online over the years. And that this is yet another example of the kind of influence behind the man who's running for governor of our state.
