What is going on with the Clintons this year?  

You'd think that after Hillary's Tuzla story had blown over in the press, they'd let sleeping dogs lie.

Well, you'd be wrong.

As it turns out, Bill Clinton just resurrected this mess on the campaign trail in Indiana.

Here's an excerpt from Bill's speech (see below the fold for more and analysis):

And, you know. I got tickled the other day. A lot of the way this whole campaign has been covered has amused me. But there was a lot of fulminating because Hillary, one time late at night when she was exhausted, misstated and immediately apologized for it, what happened to her in Bosnia in 1995. Did y'all see all that? Oh, they blew it up.

Let me just tell you. The president of Bosnia and General Wesley Clark -- who was there making peace where we'd lost three peacekeepers who had to ride on a dangerous mountain road because it was too dangerous to go the regular, safe way -- both defended her because they pointed out that when her plane landed in Bosnia, she had to go up to the bulletproof part of the plane, in the front. Everybody else had to put their flak jackets underneath the seat in case they got shot at. And everywhere they went they were covered by Apache helicopters. So they just abbreviated the arrival ceremony.

Now I say that because, what really has mattered is that even then she was interested in our troops. And I think she was the first first lady since Eleanor Roosevelt to go into a combat zone. And you woulda thought, you know, that she'd robbed a bank the way they carried on about this. And some of them when they're 60 they'll forget something when they're tired at 11 at night, too.

Ok, so any of you that have been following this know that there are a few "mistruths" in there.

For those who forgot about the Tuzla rabbit hole, the speech where she got in trouble for "misspeaking" about arriving under sniper fire was in the morning, she told the story more than once, she didn't acknowledge that she misspoke until more than a week after giving the speech  (and long  after the comedian Sinbad had disputed her recollections of the Bosnia trip), ... and Pat Nixon visited Saigon in 1969 .

And here's the explanation that two Clinton aides who accompanied the First Lady gave last week in the New York Times.

Sen. Clinton did not apologize, like Mr. Clinton asserted, she simply indicated that she mispoke when describing the Bosnia incident.

While the former president may have been amused by the whole incident, his telling of the course of events wasn't quite accurate. Hillary Clinton actually made the comments numerous times, including at an event in Iowa on Dec. 29, amd an event on Feb. 29 and one time -- bright and early in the morning -- on March 17.

Sen. Clinton wasn't as quick with her apology as President Clinton may remember either. In fact, it took a week for her to eventually correct herself, first talking to the Philadelphia Inquirer editorial board on March 24 and again the following day in Greensboro, N.C.

So, what do you think?  Should they stop talking about this?

Sen. Clinton is being ridiculed everywhere for the blatant lie she told about her trip to Bosnia. No amount of spinning can hide the fact that she said she "ran with their heads down to the vehicles", while in the video she is shown chatting and smiling and posing for photographs. It does not matter that they were issued flak jackets.It does not matter that some people thought there were snipers in the hills. Sen. Clinton's lie was blatant enough to put her in the same league as Bill Clinton, but of course not even close to  Bush or Rumsfeld. Nobody died because of her lies.

Her lying  is a tragedy for Democrats and the Nation, not just for the Clintons. Because it tarnishes not only her, but one of the shining moments of American foreign policy. The Bosnia intervention  stopped a humanitarian disaster, saving the lives of thousands of Muslims who would have been slaughtered without it. This  was accomplished without invading a country whole sale and without getting mired in a civil war.

The punishment visited on Sen. Hillary Clinton for her flagrant, hysterical, repetitive, pathological lying about her visit to Bosnia should be much heavier than it has yet been and should be exacted for much more than just the lying itself. There are two kinds of deliberate and premeditated deceit, commonly known as suggestio falsi and suppressio veri. (Neither of them is covered by the additionally lying claim of having "misspoken.") The first involves what seems to be most obvious in the present case: the putting forward of a bogus or misleading account of events. But the second, and often the more serious, means that the liar in question has also attempted to bury or to obscure something that actually is true. Let us examine how Sen. Clinton has managed to commit both of these offenses to veracity and decency and how in doing so she has rivaled, if not indeed surpassed, the disbarred and perjured hack who is her husband and tutor.

I have read Hillary's book and the contemporaneous accounts of her trip to Bosnia and also saw the you tube of her speech. I can surmise what transpired. When she took the trip Togo West was the secretary of the Army and must have been involved in the arrangements and certainly was aware of the ground situation.During the preparation of her trip she was briefed about the risks involved including the possibility of sniper fire. She must have been informed that there was always the possibility of the welcoming ceremony being cut short. Prior to her speech she saw Togo West and they reminisced about her trip (which most likely was not in her prepared speech.) The memories of the two friends got a little cloudy something that is quite possible in a sleep deprived state. She recounted the incident as the two them jointly remembered. Obviously when she was writing her book she was scrupulously accurate and her written account is backed up by contemporaneous press accounts. There is no basis to believe that she decided to make up the story when she was giving such an important speech. She is well aware of the different level of press scrutiny she is subjected to. After all millions of dollars spent in investigating her did not find any evidence of any dishonesty by Hillary.

Selim Algar of the The New York Post has the story that the little girl who recited a poem on the tarmac at the air base in Tuzla is 'stunned and outraged' that the former First Lady of the United States would make up such a blatant lie.

Emina Bicakcic, now 20 and studying to become a doctor, told The Post she stood on the tarmac at the air base in Tuzla, greeted Clinton and even had time to share the lines of verse she'd written - all without fear of attack from an unseen enemy.

"I was surprised when I heard this," Bicakcic said, referring to Clinton's assertion that she braved snipers upon landing, ducking and sprinting to military vehicles.

Bicakcic goes on to describe the day that she got to read her poem to the First Lady of the United States. Her poem began with the words, "Peace has come", and Clinton, she said, seemed far more interested in her poem than in dashing for shelter.

Bicakcic said she was reluctant to criticize Clinton's account of that day because of a deep appreciation for the US role in ending Bosnia's bloody nightmare.

A picture of the girl's meeting with the then-first lady - signed and inscribed by Clinton - has become a treasured family heirloom.

Still, Bicakcic admitted that she is not supporting Clinton in her contest against Barack Obama.

"I'm staying neutral," she said, declining to discuss the issue further. "I have very mixed emotions about it. It's a difficult situation for me."

Other Bosnians are not reluctant at all to speak out and call Clinton on her lies referring to them as a "low  blow done to gain publicity":

Many Bosnians - still confronted with bullet-scarred and burned-out buildings from Sarajevo to Tuzla - said their very real experiences with violence should not serve as cheap fodder for Clinton's political ambitions.

"It was a horrible lie," said 29-year-old Midhat Efendira.

Like most Bosnians, he expressed a deep appreciation of Bill Clinton for his role in ending the war. But he found Hillary Clinton's remarks intolerable.

It is a shame how Hillary, Bill and their Team have initiated Race and Gender into this  nation, emotions and standards we were moving away from.  Young women go to war, and hold many jobs that were not open to them before and Blacks too.  We were making strides towards equaliy of the sexes and moving toward a more united nation, and the Hope and Inspiration Barack offered us was a very appealing idea and necessary.  Yet every day, Hillary, Bill or one of their surrogates talk unjustly about the inequality of women: a black man can be president before a women -- Barack is getting "special treatment" because he is a black man, etc., etc.  They have been doing this and getting away with it from South Carolina and it is getting worse as they see this nomination slipping away.  This is unfair to the nation that they would rather tear this country down and move it backwards, to pit one group against another and to incite animosity and hatred than to talk about real issues that need to be addressed today if we are to move forward as a people, and sadder yet, no one is calling them out on it.   However, that is why some are calling for her to step aside.  No one objects to a healthy and honest debate on the issues, but what people are objecting to, not that she is a woman, but that she is a woman that has gone ballistic, in a very negative way.  She is like a cancer that has gone wild and there apparently seems to be no cure, we can only wait until it takes it course.  Or like a hurricane that does terrible damage and we must run for cover and wait for it to abate.  She has lost her moral compass!  

After Hillary's Bosnia debaucle, she is like the Wizard in the Wizard of Oz, when the curtin has been pulled away and we see the sad reality and not the Illusion or myth they want us to believe.  This fabricated recount of Bosnian Sniper Fire is a breach of the Public Trust or should be. It goes right to the Heart of Credibility and to Character!  Some in the media have gone on to say, "it's no big deal", or this amounts to "silly season."  However, to willfully mislead the public for gain is wrong and should have no place in our politics today and certainly should not be rewarded by a vote of confidence and our presidential votes.  Politicians should not get a pass from the Media -- to be able to get away with such outlandish distortions, lies and exaggeration. They should be held to a Higher Standard than the rest of us if they want to hold the highest office in the land and to lead America to a better standard of life.   This is what is wrong with our politics of today, a "do and say" anything policy that is allowed to be acceptable when on the otherhand, we raise our children not to lie and steal and cheat.  However, they have been telling these Tall Tales for years and this time got caught. No thanks to Andrea Mitchell, however, who accompanied her on this trip and did not report it until it became public knowledge, then Ms. Mithcell did reporting on it.  The American People however, Expect and Demand that thier Politicians be trustworthy and truthful!

Hillary often boasts that she would not meet with her enmies, however, in an attempt to divert attention away from Bosnia she sat down with Richard Mellon Scaife, her arch enemy and personal persecutor, the very same Richard Mellon Scaife, who during her White House years accused her of the murder of Vince Foster and said that Bill and she had committed 60 murders to hide their crimes, in an ill-advised and ill-timed manner to re-introduce the Rev. Wright issue -- by the way, the very Rev. Wright that they Invited to the White House.  

Then in a further attempt to divert attention away from Bosnia, they sent out Sen. McGovern to add more fuel to the Gender Fight, already started by Geraldine Ferraro, so now we have a racial and gender war/fight beginning to brew in their hopes to keep up the divisions they have already inflamed in the public discourse.  That they are willing to divide the country back into a gender and racial war tells you much about thier character.    

This fight could have possibly been over if it was not for Rush Limbaugh, and Bill's visit to Rush during the Texas Primarys.   Barack might have won Texas but for the 100,000 Republican votes casted for Hillary which put her slightly over the top.  However, the Republicans who vote for Barack, genuinely like him, unlike the Republicans who vote for Hillary, as a way to "bloody" Barack up, edged on by Rush Limbaugh!  As for her Tonya Harding, Tonya was sent packing in disgrace!   As for Hillary's scheme to make Barack look "unelectable", it looks like due to her Bosnian Misadventure, the "Chickens are Coming Home to Roost"!  

This is a sad debauchle on American history and for Women, that the first woman with a serious chance to become President has had such disregard for her own Party and the country at large in the way she has conducted herself and campaign and for their reckless exhibition in tearing the country apart through both race and gender.  Unfortunately, she has not exhibited a moral and ethical character and a genuine graciousness of spirit, which Protype would have been a a role model for all women to be proud of.  This is not the type of "Sophia" or Mary to lead America to a better and more shining place and to that more perfect union which would enable us to measure up to the challenges of our time.  

No one objects to a honest and healthy debate, but what they do object to is one based upon lies, smear, distortion -- swiftboating and/or the Tonya Harding, however, Tonya Harding was sent packing in disgrace. And does she have to divide and separate the country by Gender & Race while she is Pressing on to win the top job? This is a New Era -- the Age of Aquarius/Brotherhood. It is about turning the page -- it is the old separative, materialistic and corrupt politicians vs. the new moral/ethical politicians (I call them the New Age Politicians as they work on building a more holistic and unified society where wealth is shared among the masses.)

Camp Clinton, is enraged with Barack that people have discovered that Hillary has a "truth" problem, that she got caught telling that horrendous tall tale, "the Bosnian Sniper Fire" story and now everyone knows her true character and the depths she will go to embellish her own persona, and the fact that people are now skeptical to believe anything that she says... However, I am surprised that Andrea Mithcell, who went on that trip with her, never reported that there wasn't any Sniper fire until it became public knowledge, though Hillary had told that story three (3) times before, yet Andrea does think it is her personal mission to dig up old sermons of Rev. Wright's and expose them to the public. Rev. Wright is no worse than Pat Buchanan who is allowed to make a cushy salary on talk shows while he continually spews out words of fear, separatism and hate within our society, and he has been getting away with it for years! And, if that is not Anti-American, I do not know what is!  On these talk shows he is allowed to say very controversial and racial statements, and all he gets is a pat-on-the back and more air time!  He is the very thing he accuses Rev. Wright of and worse. Yet, Rev. Wright's words would be pertienent except for the fact that we are electing a President, Not a Pastor, and those are Rev. Wright's words NOT Barack's, as in the Sniper Fire Story which are Hillary's and Hillary's alone.

Then there is the statement Hillary likes to make "that she would never meet with her enemies", than why did she meet and sit down with her Arch Enemy, Richard Mellon Scaife, to re-introduce the Rev. Wright matter. This is the same Richard Scaife, who accused Hillary and Bill of Vince Foster's murder, 60 murders in all, and was their personal persecutor and devil while they were in the White House and took them on a witch hunt for years, What's that about, what did she really tell him?

In her desire to make Barack look unelectable it seems, instead, Hillary's Chickens are Coming Home to Roost!

Major General (Retired) Walter L. Stewart, Jr. has written an open letter to Hillary Clinton in which he calls on military service persons and veterans to renounce their support for Hillary Clinton:

Valor theft degrades every service member and veteran, and, as a point of honor, I call on the former admirals, generals, and service veterans who are publicly in support of Senator Clinton to renounce that support. Continue it, and her dishonor is your dishonor.

Hillary Clinton's "misremembering" of sniper fire has made her a joke in many circles (e.g., hello Sinbad), but for the veterans I know (and I know lots of them), they're actually pretty pissed. She is lucky this didn't blow up on her (no pun intended) before Murtha made his endorsement public. This may have been enough to force his hand into neutrality.
