Hillary Clinton, in an apparent nod to "The Who", confirmed one of the band's most memorable lines by reminding us that the "New boss" really is the same as the "Old boss".  The clarification came in an interview with Keith Olbermann in which Clinton raised the specter of a nuclear showdown with the only functioning democracy in the Persian Gulf region.

In [an] interview Monday, Clinton affirmed that she would warn Iran's leaders that "their use of nuclear weapons against Israel would provoke a nuclear response from the United States."

So who is Bill Ayers, you ask? Nobody in particular if you are an Obama Fan. I mean Obama Rocks!!!! Yes We Can!! I mean all Ayers was is just the leader of the terrorist group the Weather Underground in the '70s. Ohhhhhhhhhh pooh pooh, Obama fans say! That's a longggggg time ago!!! Barack was 8 years old! Ayers is a nice guy now! He hasn't blown anything up lately or anything! Stop bothering our Messiah! All Ayers did was bomb a few buildings, right? Let's give him another chance! I mean so what if he helped Barack with his campaigns. Lay off the guy!

I won't lay off the guy. Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn (now married to Ayers) were two of the most infamous domestic terrorists ever to be allowed to continue to walk the earth in America, thanks to a screw up in the surveillance. But that didn't stop Ayers from bragging on what he did.

No regrets for a love of explosives

Let's talk about the little ole silly things Ayers and Dohrn did:

Weatherman, AKA Weather Underground Organization, was a violent U.S Radical Left group. They called themselves a revolutionary organization whose purpose was to carry out a series of attacks to overthrow of the Government of the United States.

Last night I wrote a short diary called "Obama's Weather Underground Friends" attaching a You Tube video that's been circulating on political websites. The video claims that Obama's political career in Chicago was launched with the help of William Ayres and Bernardine Dohrn, WU leaders.

The point of the diary was to emphasize the risk facing the Democratic Party should Barack Obama be our nominee. As one commenter to that diary put it: "Heck the Republicans won't even need Karl Rove this year.   Hit pieces against Obama practically write themselves.   Once you clear away the fog of liberal guilt, things become quite simple indeed."

Now today the story has gained momentum in the blogosphere. A link to this commonvoice.com article is making the rounds on comment boards. The article references a conservative talk radio broadcast in Oregon that reported claims by a Pentagon official from Pres. Bush Sr.'s Administration and a former CIA officer that Obama and Ayers funneled money to Professor Rashid Khalidi, a known terrorist sympathizer. Excerpt here:

Bill Ayers, along with his wife Bernadine Dohrn, was an active member of the Weather Underground, a radical left-wing group that advocated violence against the United State.

Both Ayers and Dohrn went "underground" in 1970 after others in the group accidentally detonated a bomb in a Greenwich Village (New York City) townhouse. The blast killed three of the group's members including Ayers' girlfriend at the time.

While Ayers and Dohrn were hiding from law enforcement, the Weather Underground participated in the bombings of the US Capital, the Pentagon and a State Department building. In 1981 Ayers and Dohrn turned themselves in to federal authorities, but all charges were dropped as a result of alleged "government legal misconduct." In his 2001 memoir, Ayers wrote, "I don't regret setting the bombs. I feel we didn't do enough."
Ayers and Dohrn are known to have held at least one fundraiser for Barack Obama in their Chicago home.

During Obama's last year on the board of The Woods Fund (2002), he participated in awarding grants, including a $70,000 grant to the Arab American Action Network, a Chicago-based group founded by Rashid and Mona Khalidi.

In another suspected quid pro quo arrangement similar to those with Ayers and Rezko, Rashid Khalidi also held a fundraising event in his home for Barack Obama.

In the Middle East, Rashid Khalidi was known as a man to be reckoned with. From 1972 through 1983, Khalidi was the director in Beirut of the official Palestinian press agency, FAFA. His wife worked there as well.

According to sources, when the Khalidi's left Chicago for Columbia University in New York, Rashid was honored with the Edward Said Chair in Arab Studies at that Ivy League university. Their goodbye party in Chicago included testimonials from Bill Ayers and Barack Obama.

It really is frightening to imagine what the GOP and right-wing 527's will do with all the material stacking up in their Barack Obama hit files.  To highlight the point, here is the You Tube video again. I don't know who made this one but I've no doubt that this can of worms is still barely cracked.

So she wants to take credit for her husband's administration.  She wants to take credit for any foreign policy achievements during the Clinton years, she wants to claim the national security mantle, and she claims to be fully vetted.  She claims there are no more SURPRISES in her and her husband's background.  That remains to be seen!!

But who says all the other baggage we know about can't be effectively re-used, re-hashed and re-manipulated for political advantage?

I can just see the Rethugs coming out with a commercial (visuals and all) outlining a string of terrorist bombings that effected U.S. interests, property and persons during Bill Clinton's administration.  Shall we list a few here:

1993 - The first World Trade Center bombing
1995 - Attempted crashing of plane on White House
1995 - Oklahoma City bombing
1996 - Khobar Towers bombing - Saudi Arabia
1998 - U.S. Embassy bombings Kenya/Tanzania
2000 - USS Cole Bombing - Yemen

With Hillary as the nominee...it's going to be UGLY!

The Terrorist Watchlist maintained by the Bush Administration now has over three quarters of a million people on it - and it's growing every day! This has got to be an indication of how paranoid the Bushies are... why, you couldn't go to the mall, or watch a movie in a theater, or eat in a restaurant without knowing there was at least one or two terrorists nearby.

Some members of Congress, judging by the averages, are probably terrorists. Since thousands of DC folks work for the the government, several of them have to be terrorists, too! And don't get me started about the crowd at a Washington Redskins game!

When a list gets this big, it somehow loses its oomph. If everyone can be a terrorist then who is the real bad guy?

Yesterday, John Edwards published an op-ed in the Sioux City Journal that concisely stated the basics of his plan for creating a world free from terror. Edwards originally laid out his counterterrorism strategy on September 7th in a speech at Pace University, so what he discusses in the op-ed is not new, but it is a smart strategy for not only combating existing terrorists, but also preventing new terrorists from being recruited by terrorist organizations.

Apparently the Department of Homeland Security is breaking in a new program in Florida airports where trained observers are watching for facial expressions and body language on passengers showing signs of disgust and aggravation. This is a new method for identifying potential terrorists on flights and it goes up there with larger than 3 oz shampoo bottles and removal of shoes.

What I'd like to know is, given our current practices in airport security, who doesn't look aggravated or disgusted after waiting in hours of lines, being searched and re-searched, semi-stripping and shoe removal, etc.? I know I do... and now, if I fly out of Florida, I'm just as likely to be picked as a potential terrorist.

I probably look thirsty because I can't carry a decent=sized water bottle while I'm waiting in a hot line. That's aggravating enough. Couple that with the decline in service (which the new Virgin USA has spotted as a competitive weak point in our air carriers) at the airport and we're going to be discovering terrorists everywhere.
