I've had enough. Time for a change.
No, I'm not talking about George Bush but the governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich. Today's Animal Farm observes:
Reading it over, I was stunned by this passage:"I think there's great cause to be concerned. If Speaker Madigan and the House leadership pick up a veto-proof majority... then they'll be in a position to easily override a veto."
That sounds an awful lot like the Democratic governor is urging voters to shun Democrats this fall so his intraparty rival - Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan -- doesn't get any stronger.
How far will and should Democrats go to shed the "tax and spend" labels that have been foisted on them by the Republicans and the media? How many legitimate government services can they allow to be cut on their watch without facing a backlash? Do we need a Democratic party that simply echoes the Republicans on tax issues?
The George Bush tax cuts have already had severe impacts on state and local governments. Thus far Democrats in my state, Illinois, have basically accepted the cuts without protest and cut services.
Should Democrats be making more of an issue about this? Shouldn't we be braver about it?

In 2006, The Republican Party will use their standard tactic of fear with a dose of `Democrats have no ideas' to rally support for there corrupt and conservative majorities in Congress.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., says that Republicans will fight the 2006 campaign by combining 2002-style attacks on Democrats as "weak on security," 2004-ish attacks on "obstructionism" and a new line of argument that "Democrats have no ideas."To counter this talking points Democrat do not need Frank Luntz to make old ideas sound popular and new. They can turn to the states where progressive ideas are becoming legislation to better improved people lives. The first state they can turn too is Illinois. Nathan Newman has the impressive run down of what a Democratic Governor and Democratic controlled Congress can do.
