Across the political divide Americans understand our democracy has stopped working for them - unless they happen to be comfortably wealthy. Prostitutes are held in higher esteem then today's politicians because at least they're providing a service. Our elected leaders appear to only service themselves and their cronies as Hurricane Katrina exposed to our national shame in 2005.

Activism, Inc.: How the Outsourcing of Grassroots Campaigns is Strangling Progressive Politics in America is an indictment of the outsourced-canvassing model currently employed by the DNC and approximately 25% of all major progressive organizations. In this book author Dana Fisher - through a series of interviews with canvassers - examines the efficacy of the model and its long-term effects on the progressive movement.

I sat down with Dana Fisher for a Podcast a few weeks ago to talk about the book and her findings.

It's not every day that I get to interview a United States Senator.  You you can imagine when I landed a Q&A with New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez.   Lucky for me, Sen. Menendez is very blog-friendly.  When I pitched the idea of a podcast, he was accommodating and willing to talk about the issue that's front-and-center in my mind heading into the November election: the war in Iraq.
