[Update] The new Gallup Daily Tracking Poll has Obama up 49-40. Hell yeah.

One of my esteemed colleagues here at MyDD asked yesterday why we aren't "wrecking" John McCain.  It's an honest question, and a fair one.  This diary does not serve to attack the question, nor the questioner.  This diary serves to answer both.

Senator Obama has led in every single poll without factoring in so-called "leaners."  He has led every poll including leaners save one Rasmussen tracking poll in which they were tied.

To "wreck" an opponent does not mean to deny him any voters at all.  To wreck, I think, is to make it plain that he is losing, that he is gaining no meaningful ground, that his footing is unsure.

Senator Obama has kept Senator McCain on the defensive.  McCain is reacting to Obama.  Senator Obama has managed to accomplish something that we Democrats usually cannot - he is framing the debate on his own terms.

This is huge.

Senator Obama has reiterated his pledge to drive up African American turnout by 30%.  He also said that he'd drive up the youth vote by similar numbers.

If he can pull it off he will obliterate John McCain.  I cannot stress this enough.  If there's anything that the Obama campaign has been able to do it has been to drive turnout.  I think he's probably on the money here.
