Bad TIPS, are other US bonds next?

A little story passed by the radar of most folks this past week.  A piece of news that really shows the US reaching a watershed moment.  What is this oh so awesome thing?  Well it isn't awesome, in fact, it isn't good at all.  Investors are starting to reject government securities.

CT House Speaker Wants to "Buy Your Vote!"

see: photo at: www.rfrank118.com/blog.htm

This is a quote taken from the movie Brewster's Millions, the movie is very apropos in lieu of the billions in bonding. There is one exception however, that the Millions Brewster was squandering was his inheritance, this made the movie rather funny. Amann on the other hand is squandering millions of your and my money, not even money that we have but rather money he has charged to our tax payer "credit cards."

What to do with Barry Bond's 756 Ball?

As most of you know, Bonds 756 home run ball, breaking Hank Aaron's record was auctioned off recently.  Mark Ecko, fashion designer, bought the ball and did a truly wonderful thing... he is not keeping it but instead letting the public choose its fate.

Ecko set up a website http://www.vote756.com/ to allow people to vote on the balls fate.  The three options are:

Send it to the Hall of Fame
Brand it with an Asterisk and send it to the hall as a form of protest
Blast it into space

Please go an vote today!

Be Bold Ask American's For Help

Here's a new BOLD idea for some candidate to announce.  We need  a War Bond and new Health Bonds.

Knowing the War on Terror may last many years to come, perhaps it's time for American's to make a few sacrifices, and perhaps gain from those sacrifices later on.

AFL-CIO Presidential Debate: A High Jinks on Media Integrity

Many Black folks who watched Tuesday night's AFL-CIO Democratic Presidential Debate are still left with one lingering question: What the hell does Barry Bonds have to do with labor issues or presidential qualifications?

It's been the topic of discussion on urban radio and blogs that center on African American issues, but I came across this column by By TOMBARI BONKOO which gives voice to the collective reaction of disgust and disbelief to Keith Olbermann's question to Senator Obama about Barry Bonds...

In watching Tuesday night's AFL-CIO Democratic Presidential Forum moderated by MSNBC host Keith Olbermann, the agony of most black men in America toward the media and their cohort became a hard reality for me. Their fate hangs on the thin thread of human emotion -- a volatile hormone.

The most incongruous and heart-wrenching jibe against Sen. Obama for the night did not come from his fellow counterparts, but from the very moderator whose assignment was to ask questions relevant to the aspirations of the labor unions. That is, turning the forum into an avenue to pin down Mr. Obama on taking a stand against or for Barry Bonds.

My thoughts on the California bond initiatives

Proposition 1B - Bond money for roads - No

First of all, I object to the amount of bonded indebtedness we've already incurred with exorbitant measures that have been pushed and passed at a bipartisan level.  The money isn't free.  The 20 billion the state would borrow for this measure will double in costs over the next 30 years.

Secondly, the money is ostensibly for congestion relief, but the bulk of the funds would go to road expansions which is temporary relief.  The expansions historically lead to more mass housing developments, which quickly fill up the roads again - or to quote my environmental law professor: "if you build it, they will come."  Only a small portion of the funds go to public transportation, the only serious way to address traffic congestion.

CA-Gov: How we beat Arnold after the bond passage

Bumped from the diaries -- Jonathan

Pretty much all of us California bloggers have noted something about how this bond package will affect the governor's race.  Julia at BetterCA has her opinion, Frank at CPR has his, and Randy at Bayne of Blog has his.  I know Bradley doesn't like it when you call him a blogger, but he's got his thoughts too.  And from the other side, Dan Schnur, a Rep operative, posted on FlashReport yesterday that this all but locked up the governorship for another 4 years.

The infrastructure bonds that the legislature put on the November ballot this morning will re-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger. Already armed with advantages over either of his Democratic opponents on taxes, driver's licenses for illegal immigrants, and Jessica's Law, the presence of bonds providing money for road, school and levee construction gives Schwarzenegger an issues arsenal that will be almost impossible for either Steve Westly or Phil Angelides to defeat.(FlashReport 5/5/06)

Now many of us would argue with parts of his logic.  I have a HUGE quibble with his belief that anything to do with immigration is a good issue for him.  But, that being said, I think if you nibble around the corners of the analysis from both sides, you get to an overall consensus this was a win for the Governator.

Lots, lots more on the flip:
