O'Reilly's Producer Stalks Blogger

This is just unacceptable:

On March 1, ThinkProgress picked up on a story by News Hounds, which noted that Fox News host Bill O'Reilly -- who has made controversial comments about rape victims in the past -- was slated to speak at a March 19 fundraiser for the Alexa Foundation. The group is committed to supporting rape survivors.

Our post -- which never criticized the Alexa Foundation -- highlighted the fact that in the past, O'Reilly has implied that women who dress in a certain way or consume too much alcohol should perhaps expect to be raped.
...
This weekend, while on vacation, I was ambushed by O'Reilly's top hit man, producer Jesse Watters, who accosted me on the street and told me that because I highlighted O'Reilly's comments, I was causing "pain and suffering" to rape victims and their families. He of course offered no proof to back up this claim, instead choosing to shout questions at me.

Really gross, weird, obsessive behavior. Go read Amanda's whole account.

You have to love the logic of the claim that SHE caused "pain and suffering" when all she did was quote (in context) O'Reilly saying an ignorant thing.

Re: O'Reilly's Producer Stalks Blogger (none / 0)

I too do not understand how repeating what O Reilly said is causing additional pain and suffering. Doesn't that mean that the staffer  is implying the original statements were bad? I guess the moron didn't make that connection. FOX NEWS brilliance at work!!!

On a side note, I actually think that if a woman is dressed skimpily and is drunk out of her mind, and then decides to walk home alone, she is being a moron. Does it excuse the behavior of the murderous thug who takes advantage of such a situation? Absolutely not. He should go to jail and be punished severely.  A skimpy dress is a social signal that you want other people to admire your body unless you are in an athletic endeavor. Getting drunk out of your mind is self indulgent behavior that is irresponsible. Put the two together and you are in less of a position to sound any alarms or defend yourself or run away from a situation where thugs do not want to respect "No means NO". There are no guarantees for safety no matter how sober you are. But you will be a hell a lot safer.

I anticipate a lot of PC backlash on this. But if O Reilly was referring to this aspect while not making excuses for the rapist, then he has a point. If he was making excuses for the rapist with the excuse that she gave him no choice but seduced him into it with her appearance, then he can go to hell.

Gloves off (none / 0)

I know a lot of bloggers, radio talk show hosts and TV commentators have decried treating O'Reilly and his "producers" in kind, but this sort of behavior warrants payback.

While I am nowhere near DC I would love to spend a weekend with a cadre of my largest friends and  "interview" Watters, O'Reilly and the rest of his staff while they golf, visit their families, take a walk in the park or go out to for a meal. It is clear they have no moral compass to guide them, so perhaps it would help to remind them that karma's a bitch.

Haha good idea.

Can you imagine the whining O Reilly will do if we do that? "i am being harassed. My right to privacy blah blah" . He is going to find a way to make himself the good guy.

Right-wingers like O'Reilly and Hannity are typical bullies. It's OK when they screw with you, but screw with them and they squeal like newborn piglets pulled from a sow's teat. Of course, that's what makes it so damned enjoyable.

I diaried this on DailyKos also, and included the primer from Keith Olbermann on how to fend off one of these attacks.

Also, see this piece from Jon Stewart on the sheer hypocrisy of O'Reilly on these stalking segments, and then his rants against the paparazzi stalking celebrities.  Can you say cognitive dissonance?
