The Repower Wall

Part of Repower America’s efforts to fight climate change is gathering videos and statements from thousands of Americans explaining why they support clean energy legislation. These videos are part of a really cool web project called the Repower Wall. The wall, launched earlier this week, is a video montage showing all the different clips and statements. Videos range from the famous – Stephen Hawking, Majora Carter, Richard Cizik, Madeline Albright, Repower founder Al Gore – to average pastors, businesspersons, and students, as well as organizations and companies. You can view it all at once, or search for videos from specific professions or regions. It’s an absolutely amazing website and helps illustrate the point that most ordinary Americans care about global warming. Here’s a screen shot and a sample video, with several more videos below the fold (including one from Bill Nye the Science Guy!). Some are short and some are long. You can also submit your own at the Wall.

(Disclaimer: While they’re not the ones who sign my checks, I do work part-time with Repower Nebraska as their faith outreach coordinator. Still, no matter who you work for, you have to think this is a really cool example of how new media can be used.)

Yes first we were destroying the earth via acid rain...oops never happened, than it was global cooling....oh wait that never happened....now its man made global warming brought to you by Al Gore's junk science....

Re: The Repower Wall (none / 0)

Because NASA, NOAA, most universities (include the U. of Cambridge, U. of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Dartmouth, just to name the ones I saw today), my own geologist parents, and over 95% of all peer-reviewed journals are sooooo clearly Al Gore.

Re: The Repower Wall (none / 0)

Acid rain, btw, has destroyed forests and damaged stone structures all over New England and Europe, so I'm not sure where you get off saying it never happened.

That's the problem with deniers. If you catch a problem early enough and fix it, they point to the fact that the worst effects never happened and claim it's proof that the problem never existed in the first place. With that kind of logic, it's impossible for them to ever believe that foresight is a good thing.

Re: The Repower Wall (2.00 / 1)

As already stated, acid rain has been a significant problem.  Global cooling was a theory without significant scientific evidence.

Every credible scientist in the field agrees (and the evidence supports) the danger of global warming, and the significant contribution of human activity on warming.

Your repeated unfounded talking points serve only to make you look dumb.

Well I guess that I am dumb alogn with the scientists and other experts who have stated that global warming notably man made is a farce.......

Re: The Repower Wall (none / 0)

Probably not the best moment to misspell "along," eh?

You do have some credible scientists in your hip pocket, this is true - perhaps 5% of credible scientists; maybe a little less but certainly no more. Most (not all, but most) of the "expert" climate change deniers are funded by the oil industry. Forgive us for ignoring them, and for giving 95% of the peer-reviewed journals and scientific method-following PhDs 95% of our respect.

I would be very surprised, however, if even your respectable 5% (a generous number) are acid rain doubters, as you just claimed to be. You gained a small amount of credibility a couple weeks back when you quoted Stephen Schwartz rather than some Exxon flack, but you lost far more when you claimed acid rain doesn't exist. Your man Schwartz himself "exerted a major influence on the drafting of the acid deposition section of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments." (http://www.ecd.bnl.gov/steve/schwartz-bi o.html)

Re: The Repower Wall (none / 0)

I didnt say acid rain didnt exist. What I said was that contrary to the hsyteria which claimed that acid rain would destroy food crops around the world and leave to food shortages and mass starvation, it never happened.

Re: The Repower Wall (none / 0)

Fair enough.

We acted in time. We're trying to do the same here, too. But like I said, that's the problems with deniers - when you fix or mitigate a problem, when the proposed solutions actually work, they just use it to argue the problem never existed in the first place.
