Free Republic May Have Caught McCain/Solzhenitsyn Plagiarism First

In what I'd consider a good thing - the right wing Free Republic site may have found the Solzhenitsyn connection first.

A daily kos diarist Karmic Spirit found the archive.

It's actually a really good thing to connect McCain's plagiarism to
Free Republic politically.  Isn't that the group that focused on Rathergate?

Perhaps McCain is making obvious Christian statements to gain support for 2008.

"Perhaps McCain is making obvious Christian statements to gain support for 2008."

You dare to doubt his sincerity ?!?!?

(me too.)

Unfortunately, that is what crossed my mind too.

He is a media whore as his 'campaign finance reform bill' and his 'terrorism bill' prove.

McCain's book is sub-titled "Me, Myself and I".

I absolutely HATE it when this guy extorts his veteranism or POW stuff. Any vet I now worth his salt never ever ever discusses his/her service. EVER. You look at them, they look at you, and you just respect them. Thats it.

This guy is, well, the Moderator won't let me say it (and keep my post).

The beauty of this type of comment out of McCain, is how can you challenge it? I've laid off comments about his imprisonment for much the same reason. I wasn't there and don't know all the facts. He could say J.C. Himself came to visit him in the P.O.W. prision, and I'd have to stand back and wonder...

I can't put my finger on it precisely, but something about John McCain rings as phoney as a three dollar bill. I don't trust him and most often find myself thinking he's only in this for his own personal gain. Perhaps it's the fact that he gets his mug on the tube more than anyone I know of.

I don't want John McCain anywhere near the White House in an offical capacity of any kind. That being said, some of the people I've supported have screwed the pooch as far as I am concerned. Who knows, John McCain might surprise me in the other direction if given a chance.

Hmmmm. Looks like McCain has been reading Solzhenitsyn.

From The Mayor's daily posts at FR's Finest and The Canteen from the devotional "Our Daily Bread" comes Sunday's reading...

World-famous Russian author Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was sent to a Siberian prison because he criticized communism. Languishing there under intolerable conditions year after year, he decided to end his life. But suicide, he firmly believed, would be against God's will. He thought it would be better for a guard to shoot him.

So at a public assembly of the prisoners, he sat in a front row, planning to get up and walk toward an exit, compelling a guard to kill him. But to his surprise, another prisoner sat down, blocking his exit. That unknown man leaned over and, to Solzhenitsyn's astonishment, drew a cross on the dirt floor.

The cross! Wondering if that fellow prisoner might be a messenger from God, Solzhenitsyn resolved to endure his imprisonment. There in prison he became a Christian and was eventually set free to bear witness to the world.

Are you in the grip of difficult circumstances? Have you wondered if life is worth living? Focus your heart on the cross--it is the message of God's love, forgiveness, and saving grace for you. Invite the Christ of Calvary with His transforming power into your life. Discover for yourself that the Christ of the cross can change you. --Vernon Grounds

The cross is my hope for eternity--
No merit have I of my own;
The shed blood of Christ my only plea--
My trust is in Jesus alone. --Christiansen

I think it is a great think that IF Obama wanted to he could blame a right wing site for doubting McCain on this story.

as is started to be appreciated the POW card is being played relentlessly as a get out of jail free card.
