CNN: Is Obama The Anti-Christ?

I know this is going to seem like a joke, but unfortunately it's not.  CNN just spent 10 minutes, with Campbell Brown hosting and three conservative guests, ruminating on the burning question, "Is Barack Obama the anti-Christ?"

Umm ... I'm not usually in the boycott business, but CNN is officially dead to me this election cycle.  Not even Fox News has sunk to this level.

can't believe MSM like CNN are giving this BS that much of play...somebody left their intelligence outside the entrance door of CNN..

I'm surprised it was alive for you in the first place.

FOX doesn't ask if Obama is the anti-jesus simply because they've already claimed that he is.

by Glaurung on Thu Aug 14, 2008 at 09:40:36 PM EST

And CNN had Jerome Corsi (2.00 / 2)

on Larry King for an hour last night to explain why Obama was the most awful person in the world.  And Larry kept shutting up the Media Matters guy so that Jerome could speak and "defend himself."

(Wolf Blitzer and Campbell Brown devoted their time to Corsi's book, as well).

So I wonder, are we ready to forgive MSNBC for not being too pro-Obama during the primary season?  The only other network is Fox.

Re: CNN: Is Obama The Anti-Christ? (2.00 / 3)

Who were the three guests? Names? What were they saying? Were they actually taking it seriously, or calling attention to the batshit insanity of some in the evangelical community? Did Brown challenge the nuttier assertions, or let them be? Was there any perspective or context offered?

A little more detail would be nice.

Re: CNN: Is Obama The Anti-Christ? (2.00 / 1)

The story was trying to suggest that the McCain ad entitled, "The One", was trying to play to the idea that Obama was the antichrist. Everyone on the panel (Which included Roland Martin, a huge Obama supporter) concluded that the ad was what is was (Trying to paint Obama a full of himself). They ridiculed the idea that was put out by Campbelle brown (Another huge Obama supporter)

CNN is anything but anti-Obama

Those of us raised in Evangelical houses can hear the dogwhistle just fine.

Re: Well they're wrong. (none / 0)

Well maybe Obama shouldn't use new age language. It would be much more difficult to paint him as a false messiah. You can ask those in your evangelical household what they think of when they hear, "We are the ones we've been waiting for". Be honest now, that is new ager language

Re: CNN: Is Obama The Anti-Christ? (2.00 / 2)

That is not an accurate description of the report.  Do you forget the last word, the Christian Right radio commentator saying that because Obama is a celebrity, it's fair game to compare him to the anti-Christ or Britney Spears?  Or what about the "Barack Obama, the Antichrist?" chyron that was on not only through the segment, but for at least a minute after the segment was over.

Dog whistle is right ... it doesn't matter that they debunked the idea that he's the Anti-Christ, CNN just featured the right wing meme that Obama is anti-Christian.

Yeah, it's not like they could have found any of the evangelicals in the Matthew 25 network or anything. That would be cheating, right?

Re: CNN: Is Obama The Anti-Christ? (none / 0)

Do you really think Campbell Brown is a supporter of Sen. Obama? I haven't watched her lately because CNN's 7:00 pm & 8:00 pm programming has veered too sharply to the right for my liking. (Thank you MyDD for introducing me to MSNBC.)

I did watch her during the primaries, and to me she seemed rather antagonistic toward supporters of Sen. Obama.

Do you think that she has changed, or have you always thought she was an Obama supporter?

Thanks!

P.S. As we "speak," CNN is running the "Obama the Antichrist?" piece again.

Re: CNN: Is Obama The Anti-Christ? (2.00 / 2)

With the exception of Lou Dobbs I pretty much thing all of CNN has been strongly in favor of Obama for sometime now and some of them wear it on their sleeves. To be fair Wolf probably isn't in the tank for him either (he's just a little slow)

Ridiculing evangelical beliefs (none / 0)

doesn't make their votes go away. Nor does it address the very real danger of getting zealots convinced you herald the end of the world.

No. McCain is the Anti-Christ, because the Anti-Christ wants to control Babylon (Iraq) for a thousand years.

Re: CNN: Is Obama The Anti-Christ? (2.00 / 1)

Sorry to disappoint you but Evangelicals are called to resist the "antichrist" at every turn. Supporting his rise to power would  betray everything they believe in. You really should try to inform yourself more about a large portion of the electorate in this country. It makes politics so much more productive when you understand as many voters as possible rather than just understanding those who think just like you and defining the rest with lame stereotypes which are most often incorrect.

Re: CNN: Is Obama The Anti-Christ? (none / 0)

Do you think President Obama is going to push for the Republican idea of 'Real ID' with biometrics and all? Do you think that if McCain were elected and pushed for the 'Real ID' with biometrics the approach from the Right Wing Loonies Masquerading as Preachers in Mega-Churches and TeeVee Sets across this wonderful country of ours would treat one the same as they would treat the other?

I know the answer.

Re: CNN: Is Obama The Anti-Christ? (none / 0)

Conservatives are adamant that the anti-Christ will someday lead the European Union, so they have to play this question carefully.  The whole point of raising it is to have the opportunity to associate Obama with the words anti and Christ ... as in, Obama is against Christianity, a Muslim.  The fact that the Christian Right consistently answers, well, I doubt that he's the anti-Christ, makes them seems somewhat fair minded, but still allows their meme to grow.

The "answer" in this case, from some Christian Right news broadcaster, is that questions like this -- and the question about whether Obama is similar to Britney Spears -- will keep coming up because Obama is a celebrity.  That was the last word on the subject.  So two right wing memes ... Obama is anti-Christian and Obama is a celebrity ... were promoted without a word of opposition.

Of course, all of this will be moot if McCain names Lieberman or Ridge his VP.  The Christian Right will walk away from McCain if he sticks it to them on abortion.

Re: CNN: Is Obama The Anti-Christ? (none / 0)

In looking for the anti Christ I think the Republicans need to look at themself in the mirror. Just when you thought the Cold war was a thing of the past. Another thing this group wanted to change from his Dad's presidency. Now we have Russia as an enemy again. A stronger Russia to boot. And these yahoos are suppose to make us feel safe. In the words of Bill Clinton this is the biggest fairy tale I have ever seen.
