VP News: Sound like Clark!

I tried to quit blogging :P this week, but when I saw this headline from the indelible Sam Stein I just couldn't resist.

Look I know this could mean Biden, but common, Obama couldn't pick Biden.  Surrogate yes, Cabinet yes, Senate Leader sure.
Obama needs somone to throw some kidney shots to prep for his uppercuts.
But common now, for all the Clark fanboys (me included) this is music to our leeebral ears!

A V.P. Hint? VP's Convention Day Is Veteran Themed

Does the schedule for August's Democratic convention provide any clues to whom Barack Obama will pick as his vice president?

On a conference call on Monday morning, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and top ranking aide Anita Dunn announced that the theme for Wednesday -- the night on which the vice presidential candidate is scheduled to speak -- will be national security and honoring veterans. The choice, a reporter noted, lent itself to the interpretation that Obama would choose a running mate with background in military affairs -- like, say, Sen. Chuck Hagel or John Kerry.

Sebelius tried to nip the speculation in the bud.

"I think it is clear that Sen. Obama will announce his vice presidential choice when he is fully prepared to do that," she said. "It is my understanding that every potential vice presidential choice also has a speaking slot, so nothing should be read into themes, issues and ideas. There is an array of talent out there and when the senator makes that announcement you will be prepared to know."

But her answer fell somewhat short, leading Dunn to interject before the next question could be asked. "Wednesday night is thematically about securing America's future, it is about honoring our veterans and the families of our veterans... and how to make us safer and move past the divisiveness and into the future. I think anyone Sen. Obama picks as Vice President will be more than prepared to address those issues."

As for Sebelius, she was asked to divulge whether she, currently, was being vetted for the running mate spot.

"I have made it clear since I enthusiastically endorsed Sen Obama that I would be enthusiastic to do anything I can to help elect him president of the United States," she said. "Because I believe we need a leader just like him to take over the helm of this country and have the kind of change desperately needed. All of the information about the vice presidential selection process is being answered by the campaign. All the surrogates have been ask to defer requests for information to the campaign. And I will continue to do that."

I hope so.

Wes has been my first choice for a long time.

Obama/Clark is unbeatable in my NOT so humble opinion.

Wouldn't a Clark/Ridge VP debate be just PEACHY?  The former military commander...and that duct tape guy.  I'm drooling just thinking about it.

I don't know if I'd read too much into it, after all, Reid is scheduled to give a speech on energy on Wednesday at the convention.

Maybe it is the other Reed.

Re: VP News: Sound like Clark! (2.00 / 1)

Not going to read into to too much.

And don't worry Jerome, I am ready to be disappointed in Clark not getting picked.

While writing here, let me give everyone a little "insider" information (not sure how insider this is :)  )

We all want Clark to at least be secratary of the DOD, but since he served 9 years ago he would have to wait about a year.

Well we all know about this Energy Tzar position people kept tlaking about for Gore (that he kind of refused directly recently)

Well did anybody here know that for at least 6 months or more, Wes Clark's son and former campain chairmen Wes Jr. have been working in the burgeoning Windmill Industry.

I don't know the absolute details but I assume their goal is to improve and increase wind electro production in the US.
I have no idea what the strategy is, I just know Wes Jr is in holland doing work.

I am not sure how invovled his dad is, maybe just a mentor for all I know.

But the fact is, Clark is SOOOO much more than a uniform and badass Nato title Supreme Allied Commander ( I LOVE IT!)

He is a strong progressive beleif wise.

And he is a strong progressive SPINE WISE.

I guarantee you folks, the only negative I see in Clark in Obamas eyes, is that Clark's fire might be a bit too hot for him.

I hope I am wrong on this, and Obama chooses the riskiest (according to strategists) but strongest Democrat Wes Clark.

Yeah, let's not read too much into it.  People around here (cough, cough) NEVER excercise that particular tendency.

hehe, more fun:

I only read into it when it seems postive towards my pick.
Not too hard to admit!

I have "approved" others, but Clark, Im 110% on.

Re: VP News: Sound like Clark! (2.00 / 2)

My comment was decidedly more wide-brushed.  I mean, certain people around here have a strong desire to pick one snip of a daily traking poll and analyze the everloving snot out of it.

It's a little like trying to predict how much a gallon of milk will cost in 2032 by examining the tile grout in a Safeway supermarket.

Clark would be awesome, but I'm content to wait and find out.  All the speculating is driving me batshit.

It's like having a present you can't open until 12/25.  All the shaking, sniffing, and peeking has gotten me nowhere.  I gave up, and won't stare at the wrapping paper anymore.

haha,  thats why I put the last answer in the poll!

I hope gets us on this one!

Look I try as hard as I can not to view Obama with "beer goggles", I really do.

But I am starting to COUNT on him to be so politically cunning I can't catch him on his game.

Where most politicians bumble and stumble, it really seems like the obama team is 10 steps/scenarios ahead and evaluating the last 10 steps.

I agree.  Politicians (and their respective campaigns) are often pretty predictable.  Hell, the Repubs have essentially run the same Presidential campaign since 1972.  Over and over.

The Obama Team is damned good.  I certainly can't keep up.  Then again, I'm not particularly bright.  :)

what I have noticed (2.00 / 1)

is that the rec list can happen because of various things.

Such as the date of the diary, the amount of comments (possibly even how many in a set amount of time), the actual rec'd it gets and then comparing all of this to the existing diaries on the rec list.

I know that it does not happen simply from the number of rec's

Could Also Be Bayh (none / 0)

Bayh is on the Armed Services committee, it could still be him. The fact that the Obama campaign was using an HD camera crew to film them shaking hands with voters in a diner is pretty damn suspicious.

Re: Could Also Be Bayh (none / 0)

Can someone tell me how Bayh, who gets everything wrong, has foreign policy creds? Sitting on a committee is not that same as understanding a complex subject. Now Bayh wants to blockade Iran, as if voting for K-L wasn't bad enough. Foreign policy/military means more than force, force, and more force.

It wasn't so much a controversy as vindication of the old political maxim, "Never wear a funny hat."

I remember reading once that JFK wouldn't put any kind of hat on in public for any reason.

Well I think JFK was wrong.

I hate country music, and sometimes feel bad for not being able to connect to my fellow Americans who dance to a different tune than me, the ultimate latte liberal concrete jungle loving buffoon.

BUT BUT BUT, I thought the pics of Obama in a cowboy hat were simply badass.

Maybe the image of Bush, the fake cowboy from Connecticut looked so abysmal and fake as he tried to fake being a cowboy.

Also, you all know Bush is selling his Crawford ranch, you know the ranch he spent the most vacation time a president has in history, you know the ranch where he looked into putin's soul.....

yes, the SAME ranch he bought like a month before announcing for office 1999.

Yes, he is selling that house, to buy a fancy modern mansion in Dallas or  Houston (see the leaked donors tape on youtube)

Something interesting to think about... (2.00 / 1)

is this.

I believe that Wes Clark has been laying low for over a month.

When you take a look at his WesPAC site http://securingamerica.com/ you notice the lack of "air time" he has had lately.

I have been a member of Wes Clark's site since he ran for prez and I know that they are pretty good at posting up the videos of media appearances that he has done. The last one I see is from 7/23.

Now I have not been as active on his site for most of the year but I do keep an eye on it.

Check out Wes's blog here:
http://securingamerica.com/taxonomy/term /9

and his Clark Community Network blog here:
http://securingamerica.com/ccn/

If I am correct, could this mean Clark and his people are setting strategy with Obama and his people for Clark coming on as VP?

Bill Clinton is also scheduled to speak on Wed. Some have wondered if this meant he would introduce Hillary as VP, but it could also mean he could introduce Clark.

hmmm...

Figured you might if you post on CCN.   Clark's son Wes Jr.  was a once a week cohost till his business took him out of LA for trips.

Also, what are you worried about, your posting good news, and REAL news.

Just as long as you are not trying to help McCain, or sabotage the whole Democratic push in November, you have zero to worry about.

This is a very civil board in that regard.

Re: VP News: Sound like Clark! (none / 0)

My prediction is that it's going to be Bayh. I think the crisis in Georgia just made a Bayh pick much more likely. From Obama's point of view, Bayh has a lot of political experience, yet he's unknown enough to still reinforce Obama's message of change.

I don't think Obama was ever going to pick Biden because he tends to get his foot stuck in his mouth too much.

Re: VP News: Sound like Clark! (none / 0)

Why does the idea of Baye make me want to vomit very slowly?

I just don't see a progressive bone in his body.

Did I miss something?

Also, look at the cover of Newsweek.  the cover is about the Repubs losing the south, and god willing the soutern strategy (ie use racism to win elections)

I really want us to crush the concept of the red south, or red midwest.

Hell, I live in Maryland.  I would trade our bullshit "blue" status for competition any day.
We have the weakest democrats here (minus Edwards and Kratrovil)

So, for strait politics I hope he chooses Kaine or anyone that takes the south from the RNC (it will DEVESTATE them, beyond repair)

But for my own politics, my own agenda Clark is it, 120%

Sure, that's possible. Clark is the only person I see as a possible VP pick other than HRC. But that still doesn't explain why Bill Clinton is speaking on the night with the theme of "national security and honoring veterans". I love Bill Clinton, but this theme is not his forte at all.

Re: Introduce his friend (none / 0)

Again LF,  Bill Clinton is speaking before and in effor to introduce the new VP.

Why the hell should the room be decorated for him at all, it is the VP's speech.

I love Bill too, and am most excited for his speech (almost more than obama, u believe that!)  but I am not blind to know that the new VP is the bigger speech than the former Pres who is introducing him.

And why are Veterans affairs not Bill's alley?

Is it because some coward chicken hawks tried to call him a draft dodger, and then nominated two prolific draft dodgers for their 2000 ticket?

stop being afraid of them, wild boars are scarry, but in the end they are just pigs.

Re: VP News: Sound like Clark! (2.00 / 1)

I love the idea of Clark.  I think he has strong appeal to both the centrists and the left within the Democratic Party -- the former because of his Southern roots and military background, and the latter because of his strong critique of the Bush administration.  He's also probably the best person, except for Hillary Clinton herself, to pull in many of the dissatisfied Hillary supporters.  And he would be a great person to attack McCain in McCain's supposed area of strength (military affairs).

I consider Clark an unlikely, but outstanding, choice.
