WANTED: Your Input on the Democratic Party Platform

Experience has shown us time and time again that watering down the Democratic Party's progressive values loses elections. And with Democrats poised to win the White House and bigger majorities in Congress in 2008, we cannot afford to make this mistake again. Governor Dean and Barack Obama called for wide ranging input on the 2008 Democratic Party Platform. That's refreshing and exciting. At 21st Century Democrats we believe that America is stronger when we adopt these principles.

  • We support exhausting all avenues of diplomacy with potential adversaries and using  military force only as a last resort to defend our nation;

  • We support a living wage for working Americans;
  •
  • We support the rights of workers to organize and bargain collectively;

  • We support a progressive tax system based on the ability to pay, which is fair to those at  every income level, and where corporations pay their fair share;

  • We support economic security in retirement;

  • We support every person's right to affordable and accessible healthcare;

  • We support providing an exceptional public education to every child in America;

  • We support preserving the internet as a free exchange of ideas;

  • We support creating and fair sharing of economic prosperity;

  • We support a fair distribution of power between individuals and corporations;

  • We support the development of a sustainable economy based on renewable energy;

  • We support robust public investment in higher education and lifetime learning;

  • We support strong environmental protections to preserve our planet for future generations;

  • We support a path to citizenship for all immigrants;

  • We support full civil rights for all people regardless of their gender, race, national origin, religion, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability; and

  • We support the inherent right to privacy for law-abiding citizens, and the right of  individuals to control their own bodies and medical decisions.

Re: WANTED (none / 0)

How about a moratorium, at least, on the death penalty.

An important issue (none / 0)

There is no doubt that the death penalty, especially its application is a progressive issue. The good folks at The Justice Project are trying to pass laws that allows DNA testing to exonerate death row inmates. There have been over 100 inmates freed as a result of DNA testing.

That is why we at 21st Century Democrats feel it is important to stop all scheduled executions until DNA testing can be conducted.

Re: WANTED: Your Input on the Democratic Party Pla (2.00 / 2)

I thought we were

against immunity for telecoms,
for leaving Iraq on a definite timeline,
against warrantless wiretapping,
for public funding of elections,
for women's reproductive rights,
for gun restrictions
for universal suffrage

But maybe I was thinking about some other party.

I'm for a timeline on Iraq, public funding of elections, women's reproductive rights, gun restrictions and universal suffrage. So why should I vote for Obama?

I really wish they meant this one: (none / 0)

"# We support full civil rights for all people regardless of their gender, race, national origin, religion, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability;"

So far, none of them support full marriage equality for folks like myself and millions of other GLBT Americans.

Why are we relegated to 'second class'?

Hell's bells, even the GOP didn't have to crucify Eisenhower's record in order to make Reagan their 'saint'. We can have two great ones, you know?

We do (none / 0)

We do mean it. Sign the petition so the Democratic Party knows you mean it too.
