Let's hear it for the Rainbow Tour

Ok- I'm afraid that I will get pummeled for this post but here goes....

Has anyone else noticed that Obama's polling numbers seem to have dropped slightly since he began his Middle East Tour?  This is even with the media traveling with him and amazing rock star coverage.  Honestly- it reminds me of the movie Evita when she toured Europe (just go to itunes and search for "Rainbow Tour"- the song says it all).

Here's my point- is it possible that Obama is looking a little "staged" in this whole thing?  Politico posted this article today- here's the headline:

"Obama tour staged for political pop"

I just feel as though Obama could potentially be pushing it with this whole thing.  I get the "trying to solidify his foreign policy credentials" aspect of this excercise- but his poll numbers are not seeming to rise from any of this.  I just feel as though he would be better off staying here in the US and talking about the economy.  That's where his strength is.  I hate it when politicians try to be all things to all people- often watering down their strengths.  FISA vote anyone?? Remember the bowling incident? Or McCain trying to woo the Feminist Vote- sorta just doesn't FIT. Square peg, round hole...

Anyone else feel like this trip is walking a fine line between good politics and bad theater (is there really even a difference??) ?

Re: Let's hear it for the Rainbow Tour (none / 0)

I think that it isn't Obama's fault that he's up against such a lackluster candidate. But he'll get the blame for it because that's the GOP's strategy. Remember? Rove's been pushing the "snide country club snob" persona for awhile.

It's how she goes. Best thing Obama can do is just not attack politically while he's overseas, come back and rip him a new one (preferably by going after McCain's duplicitous last two years).

Re: Let's hear it for the Rainbow Tour (none / 0)

I think it's part of a long-term strategy, not designed for immediate impact.  He can now fight the foreign policy battle as McCain's equal or superior, when that debate arises.  If he comes back and then hammers away at the economy, where does McCain go then?

Also, regardless of the current polls, McCain's campaign seems to be spinning and panicking like crazy.  Surely they must be aware that things are not going well.

A does not neccesarily cause B..... (none / 0)

How can anyone PROVE that the numbers are dropping because of this tour?

This is a logical fallacy, something is going on, something happened, therefore A caused B.

Let's see some polling ASKING about Obama's tour.

Otherwise this "his numbers are dropping cause this is a staged tour" is something folks here are trying to sell, and it looks to me like 100% of them are Clinton supporters.

I'm not calling you out Easy, just saying, let's wait till we have something to tell if this is cause and effect.
