The way our campaign finance laws are currently written in the U.S., among the most basic of requirements for soft-money political groups (i.e.: 527's, etc.), the law states that it is mandatory that these groups do not engage in activities in support of individual candidates.  Also, it's illegal for them to coordinate activities with the campaigns of individuals running for office.

THE FACTS, AND CLEAR LINKAGE AND COORDINATION BY ROVE, ET AL, DEMONSTRATE ILLEGALITIES.
 The problem here is that Karl Rove, who's been publicly acknowledged as a provider of consulting services to the 501(c)4 group, Freedom's Watch, is also a consultant to the McCain campaign. Now, technically, Freedom's Watch is not a 527, they're a non-profit entity--a/k/a 501(c)4.

But, that means little when/if it's effectively demonstrated in court, and/or to the FEC,  that a non-profit's corporate veil should/may be "pierced," to discover the rather deliberate attempt of all/any parties involved to violate the campaign laws on the books today.

David Plouffe, Barack Obama's campaign manager, has been aware of the deliberate attempts of these groups--the specific groups involved here in particular and in detail--to engage in this sort of behavior for over eight years!  (See diary links elsewhere, throughout this story.)

I covered this in detail in a diary from approximately 10 days ago: "The 2008 Campaign History You Didn't Know." In light of today's pronouncements from the McCain campaign, to say the least, my diary's even a more timely read now then it was then.

As my previous diary explains it in detail (see link above), Plouffe's filed FEC complaints against Freedom's Watch's current media agency of record, NJ-based Jamestown Associates, as far back as 2000, when this political media agency  was engaging in virtually identical "coordination" activities relating to a congressional race in the 12th CD in New Jersey (btwn.  Rethug Zimmer and current Democratic Congressman Rush Holt).

There's even more detail about this matter in another diary I penned, precisely on this matter, about three weeks ago: "2008's Grand Masters of GOP Dirty Tricks".

Today, now--this time--they're trying to shove this illegal crap down our throats.

Effectively, what the McCain campaign is doing right now, as far as their advertising is concerned, represents a virtually direct continuation (and blatant coordination) of the media buy implemented by Freedom's Watch, roughly five weeks ago. The original buy, targeted at approximately 30 Democratic House districts across the U.S., carried/carries a virtually identical campaign theme as the one introduced by the McCain operation now, as described in Todd's story, linked above.

Folks like James Carville, and many other senior operatives within the Democratic Party, have been calling out Rove, et al, on this very matter for weeks. (Reference is available in my diaries, linked elsewhere in this story.)

I think it's time for good Democrats everywhere to make an effort to morph this issue from just campaign cacaphony to significant, formal outrage.

TODAY, THE RETHUGS HAVE PUT IT IN OUR FACE. SO, IT'S TIME TO ACT!
All it takes to demonstrate your disdain and outrage is an email to the FEC, at http://www.fec.gov. If they receive thousands of emails, I think they might be compelled to act. Then again, if you know a sane and reasonable state elections committee member (in any state), you might want to bring this to their attention post haste.

After eight years of an administration acting as if it was above the law, I don't know about you,  but, I'll be damned if I'm going to sit back and let these jerks skirt and ignore rules on the books designed, specifically, to prevent the crap I see them pulling today with Senator McSame's media campaign now.

It's time to raise our voices.  Enough is enough.

I'm sure folks like David Plouffe and James Carville will be more than happy to lend their support! This transcends whomever you may have supported in the Primary. After all's said and done, the line about a "common enemy" certainly rings true.

ROVE, McSAME AND THE RETHUGS ARE NOT ABOVE THE LAW.
Rove is not above the law. The Rethugs are not above the law. If nothing else, we are a nation of laws. It's high time we reminded these asses of that fact. Let's nip this in the bud.
