Many in the media seemed to be reveling in the apparent buzz that Barack Obama was going to report a disappointing June fundraising haul, insistent, it seemed, on perpetuating their narrative that the "risk" of his opting out of public financing would not pay off. It was not to be, however, as the Obama campaign announced it had raised a solid $54 million in June, although lost in the shuffle was this astounding figure:
After locking up his party's presidential nomination, Barack Obama's fundraising operation came roaring back to life in June, generating more than a million dollars on five days, including a whopping $25 million that came in on the last day of the month.His one-day haul represents nearly half of his monthly total and more than Republican rival John McCain generated for the entire month. During the month, McCain did not have a single day in which he raised a million dollars.
John McCain raised just $22 million all month and the candidates' hauls resulted in $72 million cash on hand for Obama and $27 million for McCain. Now, this is not an invitation to complacency considering the RNC has $69 million CoH, but rather a sign of the sorts of numbers we can generate when called upon to step up, something we're going to need to do month after month if we're going to not only make sure Obama has a warchest to go up against the well-funded Republican machine but also push back on a media environment that seems to still consider the reporting of good news for the Democrat as a liberal bias that needs to be balanced out.
