Last Call For PUMA Diaries

It seems the further we get away from the Primary Wars the more we tend to write about or hear from the folks who are still fighting them. So in an effort, to at least, bring the primaries to a close here a last call is going out for PUMA Diaries.

So if you got something to write either against or in favor of the PUMA 15 you have 24 hours to get it out of your system. After 10:00 AM, July 22, 2008 your diary will be ignored.

If you haven't written a PUMA diary before here are some guidelines to make it easier.

First if you are writing a Pro PUMA Diary:

1) You must use sexists, racist, misogynist at least three time in your post.

2) You absolutely must write in such away that opinions come off as facts.

3) Feel free to misquote liberally.

4) Be sure to mention somewhere that Obama must reach out to you. Alternative: Be sure to mention no matter what he does you are not voting for him.

5) A command of proper sentence structure is not a requirement.

6) Extra credit for a drive-by. Whereas you write a diary and note at the bottom you will not be commenting on your diary.

7) Bonus points for trying to explain how your position actually is all about making the Democratic Party better.

8) And the diary must absolutely include that it's not over till the convention!

Guidelines for writing anti-Puma Diaries

1) You must remind readers that PUMA is fronted by a Republican.

2) You must remind us that supporting PUMA is actually anti-Hillary.

3) Be sure to include at least one of the following terms - Wackos, looney toons, crazies, misquided, uninformed. Feel free to add to this list or use all of the terms in one sentence.

4) By all means include the phrase "get over-it."

5) Professing your love for a PUMA (and we all who I am speaking of) is nice, but not requirement.

6) Extra credit for imploring PUMA's to try and rationally explain their position so that you can reach out to them.

Now I am sure I have missed a guideline or two, either for or against. So feel to add your own.

Actually, Catfish is cleverly pointing out an omission of yours: required in all pro-Puma diaries (and this is generally a sign of both good writing and well-reasoned arguments) - LOTS of exclamation points.

We should be able to deliver bottled hot water to dehydrated babies.

Catfish's suggestion could also go into the pro-PUMA category.

Insult those who want party unity. Make sweeping generalities about the reasons why they will vote for Obama. Use condescending terms against the entire concept of unity in general(kumbaya..etc..). And for god's sake make sure you make some references to religious zealotry.

He's referring to the standard rejoinder that it was Obama, the ostensible victim, that was cynically manipulating issues of race because his campaign issued a memo outlining questionable statement. This is a bit like blaming a rape victim for contacting the authorities or for how she dressed.

Correction: a staffer from his campaign in South Carolina made a list of so called 'racist remarks'. It was disowned and discredited by the Obama campaign which - for the record - has never accused anyone of racism and has distanced itself from supporters who have.

Even the Ferraro remarks were simply called by Obama 'divisive' and taken in the same spirit as his grandmother's off-colored remarks.

Let's keep the record straight. I'm tired of the 'reverse racist smear' of two months ago

I think you left out a few pointers:

Pro-PUMA:

9) Always refer to Obama as "Bambi," "Barry," "Barky," or some variant (bonus points for quasi-racism).

10) Make sure to include some list of demands, especially if fueled by a rumor campaign (such as the DNC ballot nonsense).

11) Never refer to PUMA by its full name, "Party Unity My Ass" - it sort of cedes the maturity angle.

Anti-PUMA:

7) Note how childish it would be for someone to vote based on how "mean" somebody else was to them online.

On number 9, you forgot to mention that you can never say "Barack Obama", it has to be "Barack Hussein Obama", even if that means changing the unfortunate initials BO into the less connotative BHO.

This is the first time my first choice ever one.

But to be honest, the two things that first drew me to Obama were not political at all. He's from my state, so an Obama presidency would be a boon for Illinois, and he's a White Sox fan!

But then after the primaries got closer and I started studying his positions more, he remained my #1 choice.

But yeah, I was burned in the past supporting Dean, and Bradley beofre- and the though never even crossed my mind to say "I wont vote for XXXX unless he puts YYYY on the ballot!". I just sucked it up and went to work for the Nominee.

After you get past policy positions, one of the other things that makes me support someone, and I know purists won't love this, is that I want someone who can win. Obama, from day one, has always come across as the guy who could win it.
