What will be the biggest surprise when Bush leaves?

Talking Points Memo is running a story describing how the Department of Justice is currently running a 10-year backlog on whistleblower cases. They link this to the fraud and graft going on in Iraq.

Just think of the goodies tied up in that backlog. You don't think any of this is intentional, do you? Do you? Imagine being a young staffer with the incoming administration and looking through those files. Shock and awe.

This got me thinking: What other surprises will await us in 2009 when Bush leaves office?

My pet theory is that Katherine Harris was actually Donald Rumsfeld in drag. I also tend to think that Dick Cheney has a white cat which he strokes while instructing Bush how to screw things up further.

I'll put a few more ideas up in a poll, but I'm really more interested in what you think.

Blanket pardons for the entire crime family? (2.00 / 4)

Don't know if I still think this is the case, but about 1-2 years ago, one of those nutbar unitary president types, Addington or some other crazy Cheney guy started floating this term like

"Blanket transactional immunity", somehow implying Bush could magical pass a wand over whomever he wanted, and not only pardon then for some specific crime, but basically say "no matter WHAT crime they committed, they are removed from all legal jeopardy"

I think it was on KO show, that this constituional law scholar commented this was one of the strangest ideas he had ever heard, and except for a King, there is no history of anything like this in common law history.

Now, maybe I was just imagining how sick and twisted Cheney might convince Bush to be, but I can see him, instead of the usual last day Presidential Pardon, reading this document that lists everyone of the Bush Crime Family he is giving this lifetime free pass to.

Although not an entire family, Gerald Ford did this exact thing for Richard Nixon.

Don't forget that Gerald Ford headed up a Kennedy assassination committee that found that Lee Oswald acted alone and a single magical bullet wound its way in and up and around and finally out of Kennedy's body, somehow ignoring physics.

The question is whether they were put there by Colin Powell as payback or whether W. put them there himself.

I'm going to guess it was W. Since he lives at the White House, he doesn't really have a commute to speak of. Which everyone knows is prime nosepicking time. So he has to do it at work.

I have W pegged as an eater, not a wiper. In any event, we can probably expect the flatware to go missing.

Probably no surprise to us, but many people will be surprised when they discover the secret torture chambers in the W.H. basement. (with Cheney's fingerprints buried into the torture button)

You're correct. That won't be a big surprise. What will be a surprise is the list of - uh - subjects who have visited that room: Joe Lieberman, Douglas Feith, Ted Haggard, Mel Gibson, and Kevin Federline. Let's see the MSM cover that one up!
