General Clark Comes To Netroots Nation

There are few bigger champions of the YearlyKos/Netroots Nation conference than General Clark. Even back in 2006, the General happily participated on panels and interacted with attendees like a regular member of the community. He's had our back for a while, and we've had his.

This year will be his third YK/Netroots Nation in a row.

General Clark will be speaking as part of Thursday evening's program.

From the Netroots Nation release:

"The progressive Netroots community is a critical force for positive change, working tirelessly to put America back on track after seven-plus years of failed right-wing policies," said Clark. "Without the progressive blogosphere, I wouldn't have run for President in 2004, and I couldn't continue to speak out and fight for the issues we believe in.

"Netroots Nation will give our community a great opportunity to re-connect in person, exchange ideas, and mobilize for the important political battles we face in the weeks and months ahead. It will also give me, personally, a chance to thank you for all of your help and support, especially recently. I look forward to seeing everyone in Austin and being a part of this historic gathering."

Just when you think Wesley Clark can't get any cooler.  The progressive movement couldn't ask for a better representative than we have in Clark.

Re: General Clark Comes To Netroots Nation (none / 0)

My husband is a retired Marine Mustang with 27 years of service.  We were both against this war before it started, but like most Americans were mesmerized by the television coverage of the troops on the ground.

One of my most memorable moments of the war was spent watching a combat action live, on CNN, with Gen Clark commenting with awe in his voice, about how remarkable it was for a general officer to see combat, as it was occurring.  He immediately explained the implication of this type of reporting on the ability of general officers to conduct operations in the field.  His excitement was compelling.

It was his commentary, his willingness, even eagerness to accept the 21st century that first caught my eye, and weighed in my support for him as a Presidential candidate.  It was like a bonus on  top of what I already knew and learned about his brilliant military career and his work with NATO that led to the rescue of Kosovo.

The man is a bona fide hero that puts McC's record to shame.  Instead of graduating at the bottom of his Naval Academy class, Gen Clark was the valedictorian of his class at West Point and received a Rhodes Scholarship. And his comment about being shot down not qualifying anyone for the Presidency was so on target that the MSM can only show the single sentence.  If they showed the baiting by Bob Scheiffer or the comments that the General made earlier, it would make the argument so much clearer that it couldn't be denied.

Now I'm really sorry I'm not going to the NN!

But I can still wish to see him on Barack Obama's ticket...

"But I can still wish to see him on Barack Obama's ticket..."

Ditto. I thought Wes cut the pundits to ribbons when they tried to back him down on calling McCain out.

Somehow, I don't think Obama is going there, but I sure wish he would consider it.

Re: General Clark Comes To Netroots Nation (none / 0)

Clark's an honorable man, and what the press did to him earlier this month was shameful. While I've never supported him for President or VP - his relationships at the Pentagon in the 1990s make me question his diplomatic abilities - I do hope President Obama will find some other way to make use of his talents and wisdom.

Re: General Clark Comes To Netroots Nation (2.00 / 1)

Really it is those relationships with the Pentagon that should make your support all but certain. Lets face it the Pentagon was pissed because he fought Kosovo as a NATO operation, not a US operation with NATO support and payed the price for doing so. It was his diplomatic skills that were most clearly on display in that conflict. By making it a NATO operation forcing the Europeans to at least to take partial ownership of the conflict and so the result, he managed keep them involved post conflict and increase American prestige around the world.

It is my hope..that after NN..
We will experience a consolidation behind Obama against McCain...
That we remember 2004 and most important 2000...
That we challenge each and every GOP attack on our candidates...that we establish an offensive posture as opposed to a defensive posture...
That we become involved in some manner in support of Local and State Democrats...
That we move beyond specific disagreements as deal breakers...
The sequences leading up to November may not come again for a long while...
We cannot afford to wait for something else...
There is a fundamental difference between wants and needs..
We, want it all...but we need less... but that does not diminish the need...
