Real Clear Politics breaks it down:

In total, the DCCC has reserved $12 million to protect their own incumbents and Hooley's open seat. The nine Republican incumbents will be targeted with up to $9 million in total spending, while the DCCC has reserved another $13.5 million for Republican-held open seats.

As SSP points out, this list reflects ad time that's been reserved, not bought, so the list may evolve over time. And I hope it does. While only 12 of the 31 targeted seats are currently held by Democrats, as a percentage, that's pretty high considering the environment in which Democrats are running this year. There are plenty more GOP seats that should be on this list, CA-04 and WA-08 come immediately to mind. I look forward to seeing more seats added to this list as we get closer to November. What should be remembered is that this list is simply what the DCCC was comfortable making public and putting the GOP on notice. As of the end of May, the DCCC had a $40m cash advantage over the NRCC and it's good to see them flaunting it.

Is there a similar list that shows where Obama is putting his resources?  At least his ads?

What about Massa in NY?!?!?! (none / 0)

I can't believe he's not on this list. That really, really, really sucks.

Re: DCCC's Targeted Races (none / 0)

Well if we want to see improvements in the list we can always do 2 things.  Round up contributions to the DCCC and individual races so they have more money to spread around.  And volunteer with our Democrates both incumbents and challengers to make the DCCC feel more confident about the current anti-republican environment and not need to invest so much in our Democrate held seats.  That said, there's no harm in not being over confident.  This would be a horrible year to get ahead of ourselves and let a few seats slip past us and fight hard for seats that don't pay off.  Here's hoping the list expands, lets go for another 2006 and not lose a single Democratic seat.

disappointing (none / 0)

Too much defense here. I find it hard to believe those 12 Democrats are really vulnerable. What are the Cook ratings and Swing State ratings on those 12 seats?

I would have liked to see IA-04 on this list.

Re: disappointing (none / 0)

Is that Myers guy still intent on nadering IA-4?  His presence may well have persuaded the DCCC to write that one off and focus on competitive takeover opportunities in Minnesota and Missouri instead.

What about Dreier? (none / 0)

In CA 26?  His district is a perfect example of the kind of once reliably Republican suburbs now trending blue.  It's assumed by people there that he's a moderate, but aggressively point out his voting record would make him very vulnerable.  And it would rid LA County of its last Republican.

Plus, considering his stature among House Republicans, he'd be a real trophy.

Re: What about Dreier? (none / 0)

I agree with you about the importance and possibility of getting rid of David Dreier. However, he is not the last Repub Representative in Los Angeles County. There is also Buck McKeon, whose district (CA-25) includes the Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys, both among the more far flung parts of our county. Remember that L.A. County has more residents than about 40 states (we have somewhere between 10 and 15 million residents).

Re: DCCC's Targeted Races (none / 0)

The Democrats are not being aggressive enough, as usual.  I'd take Mitchell, Yarmuth, Altmire and the open Oregon seat offa there and instead add Frank Kratovil in MD-01, Ann Barth in WV-02, the three South Florida Cubano districts, and Bobby Bright in AL-02. If they want to play defense, why not look at the open AL-05. That one, we might still lose.

AZ-3, not AZ-5, is the Phoenix-area district to watch; however, Bob Lord has what he needs in the funding department.

And I can only assume that the absence of WA-08, NY-25 and NY-29 means that the DCCC believes Darcy Burner, Eric Massa and Dan Maffei are already shoo-ins to flip those seats.
