Silenced By DailyKos

I left DailyKos a while back because I thought (and after today have never been more convinced) they are hurting Obama's candidacy more than they are helping.

I went back only to find out I can't post diaries nor can I post comments. I still have an account, but I'm silenced. I'm not allowed to be a part of the conversation.

Believe me, I'm not complaining all that much. I'm better off, but there is a part of me that refuses to let kos derail our chances of winning this year.

I'm on record as saying that i thought the fanatics at DailyKos damaged my candidate during the primaries, probably nearly cost him the nomination, and very likely has helped created whatever divide still exists in the party.

My very last diary there was from the days before the Indiana primary where I phonebanked for Obama and got a horrible response from the people I called (including some racism from a few Clinton supporters). I blogged about it and got flamed, trolled and even told to kill myself. So I disappeared.

Now, in my attempt to go back to DailyKos, since apparently the realization that Obama isn't Jesus, which I've been warning about since, oh, 2006, has set in, I discover that I can no longer write diaries or comment. I guess they didn't like my warning that Obama was going to disappoint them, so be prepared or that he isn't the one-man progressive revolution that he says he is, or that he may not even be to the left of Hillary. (Yes and even with that, I still supported and continue to support him.)

It makes me wonder how many other people has kos shut out? Was the Clinton strike not really a strike, but a mass banning of Clinton supporters? Maybe I'm right and that site isn't influential since it shuts out anyone who remotely disagrees. Maybe I shouldn't concern myself with that site. Maybe it's jumped the shark and has outlived it's usefulness.

Yeah, it's just a rant about kos. If we lose this year, that site needs to be shut down. It's doing more harm than good and we don't need anymore harm doers.

Oh, and I want to thank MyDD for not shutting me up, even though I'm a kossack in exile. UPDATE: I just spoke to my brother who also blogs at DailyKos. Last week he wrote a diary critical of DailyKos and found that he too cannot comment or diary anymore.

if, for no other reason, than to post a diary explaning what happened. Not that it'll work, but someone asked earlier where do you draw the line with policies. I can stand FISA, what I can't stand is suppression of free speech. That's where I draw the line.

If this is how Democrats are going to act, then I don't really want them in the same party as me. The only thing that seperates them from Republicans is that they don't want to blow shit up.

Even then Republicans are more accepting of my points of view, even if only because they want to yell at me and call me names.

Re: Silenced By DailyKos (2.00 / 3)

You're one of many who have been censored from Kos and from the Huffington Post, I hear.  And you're a supporter of Obama (!), so you can imagine how HRC supporters have felt all along.

How has the progressive community come to this?  Why is dissent within the Dem party and the liberal/ progressive community so threatening?  How can the Left have violated  so many of their own's 1st Amendment right?  I don't know who we are any more.  What this primary season has shown is that the Left is no better than the Right when it comes to intolerance and not respecting free speech.  This makes me very sad indeed.

In any case, I'm happy to hear that you support your candidate but are NOT fanatical about it.  This worshipping of Obama is what first turned me off to his candidacy. This and his soaring rhetoric which always lacked substance.  He's gotten better though, but not much.

by trixta on Thu Jul 10, 2008 at 01:17:32 AM EST

Most Obama supporters (2.00 / 1)

are not like those at kos or on the netroots. I cannot stress this enough. Most Obama supporters do not "worship" him and are not fanatical.

Re: Most Obama supporters (2.00 / 4)

dKos doesn't "worship" him, either. I'm quite tired of that lazy argument, and you're not being cute by borrowing the "cultist" language.

I have no idea what you ever posted at dKos, but hopefully you didn't exhibit the same holier-than-thou attitude toward other Obama supporters there. If so, I can see why you'd eventually lose privileges. (Although the for the record, I'd still bet on it being a glitch. The admins are pretty darn lax at dKos, and if you didn't have a ton of hidden comments, there'd be no reason to target you.)

FYI, Edwards was always the top choice of Kossacks until he dropped out (mine, too). We didn't simply coalesce around Obama because we "worship" him.

I'm not sure that this diary presents a complete picture.  Downthread, I linked to what appears to be the last diary by the diarist - it's not about phonebanking in Indiana, but about SUSA polls.  There don't seem to be any requests that the diarist kill himself in that diary.  Of course I admit that I could be wrong on this, and if so I apologize to the diarist, but something seems off.

WOW! This is pretty cool. (2.00 / 6)

So I was reading alegre's strike diary, had never read it so I did a search. The diary in itself is not great but the comments section is golden. Anywho, a comment caught my eye. When I came back on MyDD right now I read this post and did a double take.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/3/14/ 20827/4727?detail=f#c677

the funny things is... (31+ / 0-)
there's a huge number of current Obama supporters who weren't even in his camp to begin with. I was an Edwards supporters, and it seems to me that the vast majority of us ended up supporting Obama. And there are many former Clinton supporters who switched to Obama, as well.

Newsflash: this ain't a cult. Most of us could care less about Obama's message of "hope" as they do his viability in purple states, or his ability to lift down-ticket candidates in red states. Or the fact that he hasn't bolstered McCain at the expense of his Democratic opponent.

I keep reading all this crap about "Obamabots" and "cults." It must make it easier to deal with the support Obama has on this site to simply label us as sub-human cultists. 'Cause, like, there could be no other reason behind it, right?

Let me get this straight...you're complaining about dKos' policies on a site where a huge number of Obama supporters lost their privileges simply for supporting the wrong candidate, recommending the wrong diaries, and TRing the wrong members? Talk about the wrong choice of forum.

by Johnny Gentle Famous Crooner on Thu Jul 10, 2008 at 02:01:42 AM EST

Re: Silenced By DailyKos (2.00 / 4)

I checked some of your history and some of your hiddens.

Gee, you describe Obama, Edwards, and Clinton as "scum" and declare that none of them can beat McCain, you generally acted like a jerk to people, and made a point of being an irritant, even (sarcastically, I'm sure) identifying yourself as a concern troll in both diaries and comments.

Now, none of that really warranted a banning, but being an inveterate and unrepentant ass is somewhat less tolerated over there than over here, it seems, so maybe an admin had enough and just pulled the plug on you.

You might give a day or two for someone to respond. Chances are you'll get reinstated. A new ID won't allow you to post diaries for a while, and besides, unlike here, if you're spotted as a zombie, you'll just get zapped again.

Re: Silenced By DailyKos (2.00 / 1)

This is the wrong forum for your complaints - during the primaries being an Obama supporter here was a bannable offense.  I can't fill you in on the details because I was hit in like February and didn't come back until the primaries were over, but apparently it got worse.

Anyway I've enjoyed your posts here, but I remember your first diary about how the people at Kos had come to regard you as a troll.  So I went there and read your diaries, which you were kind enough to hotlink to, and I have to tell you, I would have come to the same conclusion to, for what it's worth.

I mean EVERY diary was "guys, I'm depressed - I don't think people like Obama.  Here's an AIM conversation with someone who says they'll never vote for him".  And people would take the diary as it was, and then someone would say "hey guys, check out this person's past diaries" and it would turn out that they were ALL like that, and before you knew it they'd be posting midgits in spacesuits.  Just sayin'.
