Clark LoveFest Diary

Here are some of my favorite quotes about Wes Clark that I accumulated during the 04 campaign.  I don't have citations for them but google should point you in the right direction.

"Major Clark is one of the most outstanding officers of his grade in the U.S. Army...an officer of impeccable character with a rare blend of personal qualities and professional attributes which uniquely qualify him as a soldier-scholar. While he has the intellectual grasp of world affairs attained only by the top scholars in the field, he projects soldierly qualities of strength, character, leadership, and above all an unyielding sense of personal responsibility. It is this sense of responsibility which clearly sets him apart from his contemporaries. [He] has the intellectual, moral and physical stamina, coupled with an unrelenting quest for excellence, which insures the completion of every task to near perfection. Major Clark's earnestness, sincerity of purpose and absolute dedication convey a moral force in his work which gives him a significant voice in this headquarters..."

-General Alexander M. Haig, Jr., July 19, 1978

"[Clark] seems to be preoccupied, and I'm quoting now, with building legitimacy, with exhausting all diplomatic remedies...  So I think General Clark simply doesn't want to see us use military force and he has thrown out as many reasons as he can develop to that but the bottom line is he just doesn't want to take action. He wants to wait."

Richard Perle, Iraq war-mongerer, before congress Sept. 26, 2002

"Just when the world is being dragged into the death spiral of an unending cycle of violence by a vision-less, coldblooded collection of think-tank warriors goose-stepping their way into the new millennium with a stunning lack of respect for human rights, the environment, or international law, along comes a man with the proven credentials of intelligence, integrity, and courage singularly equipped by his spirit and experience to lead us out of this mess. Don't listen to what the lying liars say about him; listen to what he says. Wesley Clark is a prayer answered."

Peace,
Kris Kristofferson

"There are two stars in the Democratic Party -- Hillary and Wes Clark."

Bill Clinton

My favorite:

"Nothing is more American; nothing is more patriotic than speaking out, questioning authority and holding your leaders accountable."

Wes Clark

"You will determine whether rage or reason guides the United States in the struggle to come. You will choose whether we are known for revenge or compassion. You will choose whether we, too, will kill in the name of God, or whether in His name, we can find a higher civilization and a better means of settling our differences"

Wes Clark

I hope... in my opinion... Clark is asked and accepts SOS position.

He will be asked to do something. And he will heed a call to service.  I hope it's VP but SOS or DHS would be good.

Re: Can I answer that for Obama? (2.00 / 2)

Exactly.  Can't understand what McCain seeks to gain from this but take the risk of appearing ineffectual if the Obama campaign declines to take his advice:

ABC News' Bret Hovell Reports: John McCain, taking questions from reporters aboard his Straight Talk Express: The Airplane Edition, said it was time for the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama to cut retired Gen. Wesley Clark loose.

"I think it's up to Sen. Obama now to not only repudiate him, but to cut him loose," McCain said to a small group of reporters somewhere between Indianapolis, IN, and Cartagena, Colombia.

McCain: Obama Should Cut Wesley Clark Loose ABC 1 Jul 08

Frankly I see no reason for Obama's campaign to be bluffed and they're showing no no signs of looking for cover.

Re: If it is (none / 0)

Well, if he does change the name to Department of Domestic Surgery, then pretty much every conversation that they'll ever have will go something like:

"Agent Johnson, D.D.S."
"You're a dentist?"

Dang it, it's too late and I stepped on my punchline. "Department of Domestic Security". D.D.S... blech, nevermind.

Obama would be well advised to use Wes Clark.  Wes Clark was my first choice for President.

I have always loved Wesley Clark. He was never the greatest politician though so would love to see him in the cabinet.

Re: Clark LoveFest Diary (2.00 / 3)

He's certainly been doing pretty well just recently, as someone else mentioned his seasoning on Fox seems to be serving him well on the talking head circuit.  Every time they try to roast him he just says it again:

ABC News' Nitya Venkataraman Reports: In a Tuesday appearance on Good Morning America, Retired Army General and 2004 Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark refused to back down from Sunday comments where he called into question the value of the war record of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

"I fully respect John McCain and his service and I've said so repeatedly," Clark said Tuesday in an interview with ABC News' Robin Roberts. "My point is there's a difference in comparing yourself for the highest office of the land depending on which levels you've served at in the armed forces."

Re: Clark LoveFest Diary (none / 0)

Well, I'm not so sure.  He's a bit dry, no argument there, but he obviously has a fine mind.  I wouldn't mind seeing either Clark or Webb as VP at this point.

Re: Clark LoveFest Diary (none / 0)

Like I said I love Clark but trying to outmilitary the GOP & keep the debate about Iraq vs. the economy with a military VP nom is a tactic the GOP is hoping the DNC goes for b/c that is how they can best win the American war over perception.  And Clark has a great mind - doesn't mean he is a good politician. The two qualities are different.

NO (2.00 / 1)

Webb is not on the same level as Clark. He is good for what he does, but he is dry, he hates campaigning and he is sexist. .. just to name a few.

Clark IS a liberal and a Progressive... not so sure about Webb.

Re: Clark LoveFest Diary (none / 0)

Bill loves Clark and thats good enough for me.

But saying a war hero isn't hero'y enough to be president because they didn't have combat command experience is going too far and should be retracted.

The aspect of war hero that enables one to be qualified for President is the sacrifice and courage and moral leadership.  McCain almost died in a fire and refused an offer to opt out of the military and then was shot down and spent years as a pow and still served an additional 8 years.  He can't lift his arm above his head because of the damage done to his body.

Thats moral leadership befitting the oval office and I won't stand by someone swiftboat-ing that regardless of party.

Take it back Clark
Take it back Webb

We are not the party of swift boating.

Re: Clark LoveFest Diary (2.00 / 2)

I'll try to answer this for you, even though you aren't really interested in logic or the truth.

Saying non-brigade level command experience does not give someone executive creds is a very legitimate statement. Twist Clark's comments all you want. It won't make what you are saying true.

Re: Clark LoveFest Diary (none / 0)

Are you an idiot troll? Swiftboating involved lies. There were no lies in Clark's statement even if one might think it inappropriate.

And when one considers that Bob Schieffer brought up the context and forced Clark to give an answer, the classiness angle is moot since all Clark did was answer a question.

Re: Clark LoveFest Diary (2.00 / 1)

I work with a guy who flew huey cbra gunships in the nam, and had 4 shot out from under him as he provided close air support. I guess he's four times more qualified to be President than McSame.

Clark's comments were accurate and appropriate, and he has nothing to apologize for. If I had to apologize every time some tool misinterpreted what I plainly said and obviously meant, then that's all I'd have time to do.
