Tonight, these five new accounts've TR'ed every single one of my comments from the past month; piling troll-ratings onto old comments is only the latest in a series of flaunting this site's rules by Republican trolls. Not only have trolls like Rankles, Aliveandkickin, and Engels not been banned, they even have their rec/ratings access intact. You want political contributions in MyDD's name? Make the site's banner worth donating under again. It's long past time to take out the trash.

I'm a proud, wallet-opening Democrat who gives as much as I can as often as I can. MyDD needs to decide which audience it's really more interested in maintaining -- Democratic contributors like me, or Obama-bashers and Republicans. Don't ask me to open up my wallet in your name until you start actively undoing this site's devolution into a playground for trolls.

It's easy to throw tomatoes from the crowd. The ratings system is broken, it'll get replaced, don't waste your time with it.

I look forward to that, and thank ct for his work in implementing it when it happens. But this is more about your recent willingness to let trolls run rampant on this site at the expense of your long-time Democratic readership. If you were even half as "duly diligent" in dealing with today's post-primary trolls as you were in dealing with what you considered primary season's overzealous Obama supporters, things'd be quite different here.

You'd also do well to remember that the "tomato-throwing crowd" are the same folks you're asking to lend you fundraising credibility via an ActBlue donation in MyDD's name. Four, three, two years -- even a year ago -- I'dve contributed to a MyDD-branded fundraising effort without a second thought. Something's clearly changed, and you need to clean up your brand if you're wanting to use it for fundraising purposes.

I'm hoping that the reason for the silence from the admins over the trolling issue is that they are about to implement a new system or something. Otherwise, it seems like they've just adopted a Road Warrior approach and don't mind seeing users game the system and wreak havoc if it increases clicks. Who knows?

I for one, have pretty much lost my taste for calling out the trolls and flame wars.. strangely that has pushed me away from writing my opinion on this blog since this is the level I see more and more around here.

No thoughtful interchange of ideas yielding intelligent arguments that might make a difference in the way people think.

And while I don't normally feed trolls, the answer to your attack is obvious: I'll still donate money to candidates, but not via MyDD's ActBlue fundraising effort. Any dollars raised under MyDD's "Road to 60" banner lend credibility to MyDD, credibility I don't feel this site's administration has earned as of late.

It seems that Jerome, Jonathan, and Todd have taken their site's readership for granted. Letting your site degenerate into a playground for trolls while giving your long-time readers little-to-no support is a lousy fundraising technique. If they want to use the MyDD brand for fundraising, they'd do well to clean it up.

Here's something I said to Venician a few days ago after a particularly depressing troll festival:

You know what my fantasy scenario is? One in which I can just open MyDD every morning, read a few insightful diaries by dedicated Democrats, and move on with the news.

Having said that, I think everyone's noticed what a chaotic jumble the place has become since the end of the primaries. I've given up trying to discern the Republi-trolls from the Deadend-i-trolls. In the end, they all serve the same purpose: to linger and spout venom rather than working to purge the Neocon scum that have infested Washington for the past decade (and longer if you include the Contract With America assholes, Reagan Revolution, and... oh well, you get the idea).

Frankly, that's my only litmus test. I love a good debate. Really. I do. But that's not what's going on here these days, and everyone knows it, whether they want to acknowledge it or not. Again, my only trigger is this: if you've made it clear that you're only here to cast stones, I will gladly call you out. If you have something constructive to say, regardless of how you feel about the primaries, I'm all ears. There are quite a few Hillary supporters here that I not only admire, but seek out. Canadian gal is a great example. In addition to reading her diaries, I actually scan her comments every day as well just to see what she has to say. I can't imagine TRing even her harshest comments, because she is smart, has worked to establish a reputation here, and clearly thinks about what she wants to say before she says it. [I'm also starting to develop a little blog crush on psychodrew - for exactly the same reasons]

Also, and not to put too fine a point on it, but I respect those around here who know when not to post a diary. A couple of people here have a habit of calling me out for posting comments rather than writing diaries. Frankly, I think the quality of the writing around here would skyrocket if a few more people kept their "writing" confined to the open threads, rather than cluttering up the diary list. Most of the obvious targets around here (we all know who they are - no need to list them) have a really tiresome M.O.: post a snippy, two-paragraph screed, then keep reposting it twice a day, with minor modifications according to the daily news cycle. These are the kind of lowbrow punters that need a little cleaning up. Hell, this comment has already taken up a few paragraphs, but even I could tell you it doesn't warrant a diary.

Finally, I know that the admins have been catching a lot of flak these days. Even I slip up and rant about their seeming absence from time to time. But I do think the bitter clutter in this joint deserves more of their attention. The only reason this place sees as many abrupt, snarky troll call-outs as it does is because somebody seems to be asleep at the switch. The readers shouldn't have to be singlehandedly responsible for enforcing the rules.

As a result, traffic has already dropped pitifully here. We've all commented from time to time on how crazy it is that two recs gets a diary on the Rec List. Honestly, if the admins don't address the issue, and put the smackdown on a few of the users abusing their site, I can easily picture this place dropping off the map in time.

And for the record: yes, I think that'd be a bad thing.

You know, I think that while this is funny, it may be more true than we think. Trolls like Engels are fun to play with - I actually kinda like the guy. But A&K? Something is really messed up there. He's also very defensive about money - keeps talking about having a Porsche, a mother who was CFO of a "billion dollar" company, retiring at 39 after selling a software company himself, and then browbeating college students like sricki for not donating. It's textbook delusions of grandeur. And based on his language usage (or lack thereof), hyper-defensiveness, and pathological behavior, I think it's more likely the guy's sitting in a trailer somewhere. Kind of sad.

Comments are a little different, trashing members in a diary is not usually tolerated. I have not seen you trashing that set (ragekage seems to have wisely absented himself from the fray) but they have their own opposites that trash them back. I wouldn't miss them if the lot of them were banned.

Your problem in particular is that you take "new politics" as a license to heap abuse on Obama and his supporters and then whine when someone calls you on it.

There are rational people who disagree with Barack Obama on this site, and when they do so respectfully they receive respect from all but the most lunatic of Obama supporters. Right, but I don't take offense personally, I take offense at the shows of hypocrisy by Obama supporters who say they want change and get all upset if anyone dares criticize Obama or his supporters but then turn around and bash the hell out of individuals here. It's the hypocrisy.

Obamans are to be held to a higher standard. They're the ones who got on their high horses and insisted we need change and to end the old, divisive politics.

yet they can't do it themselves.

I think Obama's supporters DO behave as Bush supporters did. I do not say that gratuitously or to insult. I really see it, and it's disturbing. But again as like Bush, you seem to think that such words should not be uttered, that saying it is the offense, that such actions should not be called out.

If Obamans were as the claim to be, they'd be introspective and circumspective about the criticism, but they aren't. They are reactive instead and defensive.

And I disagree with you about respectful disagreement. Obama supporters have a pattern of tolerating zero criticism of Obama. I've even seen A LOT benign stuff called "Obama bashing."

I've defended Obama as much as I've criticized him. For me it isn't about the person, it's about the job. For Obama supporters, it's about the person. If it were about the job, you'd hear the criticism in a less personal affront way (awkward sentence. Sorry).

You only hear it as an insult. Bushies too would tolerate no criticism of Bush, and they too used similar arguments.

I find it very disturbing.

I didnt want to say it, but I can't donate to a MYDD fund at this time.

Not going to get into specifics, but the site hasn't taken a stand against smear merchants and their possees of trolls.

When I hear the Admin come out HARD on the matters of electing Democrats in 2009 I can't see the point.
I was told BY ADMIN that anyone campaigning for McCain would be banned, havent seen it happen once.

When I feel that this site is a part of the blogoshpere I can be proud of to brag about I will donate.

Until then there are other Actblue coalitions, Brave New Films, MoveOn, and The Young Turks who I will continue to direct my disposable income towards as I know they represent what I want 110%.

Don't take this as a diss, it is what it is.

If the site goes positive, and that means users AND Admin and we start moving forwards instead of treading water while floating towards a waterfall I will donate.

I really hope that by July 31 at 1145 I can change my mind.

Well this is apparently one way to get a response from the mods. I notice all of the users mentioned in the diary have no comments or ratings history. They must have either had their privileges removed or been banned. I also found that a few of the worst offenders that appeared recently that were accused of being sockpuppets have disappeared.
