Thank You, Hillary... And Hello, Barack!

I never thought I'd say this, but Hillary Clinton has become one of my personal heroes. Despite being counted out so many times, she came roaring back strong. Despite being trashed and thrashed herself, she's proven her ability to brush it off to continue fighting for us working people. Despite my early doubts, I came to love and respect this amazing woman.

But now, I know her historic journey to become our next President has reached an end. Yet even now, she still amazes me with her class and her dignity. All my doubts about Hillary's commitment to the values we hold dear as Democrats had long passed, but I think now she's proving to us all what she will do to ensure we have a Democratic President in Barack Obama who will start undoing the damage of the Bush-Cheney era.

(Please follow me after the flip for more...)

So first off, I'd like to officially congratulate the Obama campaign and Obama supporters here for their win. Good job, and hopefully we'll see a Democratic President on office in 2009 who will start healing the wounds of the last eight years. As I've said here before, I will support the Democratic ticket this fall. Now, it's time for me to live up to that pledge.

But before I stop obsessing over Presidential primary stuff completely, I just need to thank Hillary and her campaign for the wonderful experience I've been a part of. The memories made will forever be cherished in my heart. There's no doubt in me about that. And hopefully, this won't be the last I see of them. Hopefully, I'll see my fellow Hillary Clinton Democrats work with all of us to ensure we have a Democratic President and a Democratic Congress.

And hopefully, many of you Obama supporters will see that we're not the caricatures the media elite tried to make of us. When we come around, please embrace us as Democrats who want what's best for this nation. And please, don't say this is just your party or my party or the Obama party or the Clinton party. This party belongs to all of us, and we all need to start working together now if we want to see progress in the future.

Now that the primary's finally over, I'm ready to move on and start working hard for Barack Obama, our Democratic nominee. Now that doesn't mean I stopped loving Hillary... She's still my hero. In fact, one reason I'm supporting Obama so strongly now is because I intend to keep the promise I made to Hillary last Saturday.

So now, I've taken the next step to ensure we have a Democratic President in 2009 who will fix what Bush-Cheney has broken. Will you? Do you care about solving the climate crisis? Ending the Iraq Occupation? Making universal health care a reality? Protecting reproductive rights? Advancing equal rights for all people, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, and/or disability? Defending the Constitution? Great, then let's all follow Hillary's lead and join Barack's movement for real change!

Re: Tips? Flames? Suggestions? (2.00 / 2)

First comment, longtime lurker.

After all I've seen here and elsewhere this was my favorite diary from any side. Thank you thank you thank you. You were the baby bear to the horror of this particular 3 bears story, for me (goldilocks ;) )

I just want peace and friendship, this primary has been so hard and exhausting. I was always good friends with my political compatriots. This whole season has confused and disturbed me. I'm no fool, I saw the sexism and the racism. Anyone who says any different is lying or deluded. It was there, with the media as usual being the most vile filth peddlers. Setting all the gasoline, in both camps, ablaze. Scumbags.

What I saw, initially, more than anything else was incredible potential. Eight amazing candidates (yes, even Gravel was amazing compared to the chamber of horrors offered up by the rebublicans). The final 3 were dazzling, the final 2 were a dream beyond hope. The victor among such riches...well hell, we're lucky, it could've been Gravel ;D.

In real life I tend to be horribly cynical, online I'll make free to be a pollyanna. Why not? It's already been horrible enough, I want to have some hope and happiness dangit. I want to read more of these beautiful diaries and envision a positive, progressive future.

Thank you, I came out of my hole for you because you made me excited all over again. Because of course, WE CAN!

Re: A very good first comment indeed! (2.00 / 1)

Thank you so much DemAC. I was inspired enough to write my own little weird diary. I have really loved reading here and watching the transition from pre-partisan to post-partisan. I have complete faith in the folks here and in the larger population to support the best person now. I had faith in everyone, Senator Clinton, Senator Obama, Senator Edwards...Dodd, Biden, Gov. Richardson...faith. Good people, good Democrats.

What are we fighting for?

I just want to say (2.00 / 7)

that I (as of last Saturday) am a small donor to both candidates.  Both candidates have strengths and weaknesses and I think they are somewhat complementary.  I have so many diaries on my plate but I am kicking around an idea of the ideal situation for both candidates on a combined ticket.

Giving you a rec

Once you've signed up on barackobama.com, you can get your own page.  And from there you can set a fundraising goal and will get ANOTHER page (like the one I linked above).  I'd just put a picture that links to that page.

Or, if you can live without the glory, just link it directly to:

Yes, I'm passionate about Hillary. I'm passionate about the issues she cares about, like making universal health care happen, solving the climate crisis, saving the middle class, and fighting for our children. And now, I'm passionate about barack because I love this country too much to see John McBush destroy all that we cherish as he continues the Bush-Cheney legacy.

Thanks for the support, and I look forward to working with you my friend. :-)

Re: Thank You, Hillary... And Hello, Barack! (2.00 / 3)

Since I stand proud and in deep admiration of Hillary for what she stands for and has accomplished, I will take her advice and back Obama.  I might grit my teeth a little bit when I write that but I will get over it. My eye is on the goal of defeating John McCain and that takes precedence over my personal likes or dislikes.

He'll need our help to both win in November and to stand up for progressive positions on issues.
Anyway, it's in the past. Time for the future to begin!

It was great working with you on the Hillary campaign and I know you'll make an equally great contribution to the Obama campaign.  I congratulate you on your passion, dedication, and commitment!

by markjay on Mon Jun 09, 2008 at 10:15:48 PM EST

Re: Thank You, Hillary... And Hello, Barack! (2.00 / 1)

You know, Obama cited working with Elizabeth Edwards on healthcare, and cited Hillary Clinton's tireless efforts on this issue, as well, and said that they will both be a part of the resolution of this issue.  I'd think that this is a good place for all of us to put our efforts - Obama's health care plan isn't written in stone, and I think Hillary and Edwards supporters could still have some influence on it.
So if there are issues that you think Hillary had the best position on, let the Obama campaign know about it.  I've read some touching diaries with personal stories which led some of you to support Hillary over Obama - keep writing about it.  I still want single payer universal healthcare, and if we get enough Dems in Congress, I think Obama will go for it.
We have nothing to fear but fear itself. And clowns.

Wow (none / 0)

I don't think I've ever seen this much respect, this much admiration, or this much love for someone in a long time (on a blog).

This was an incredible diary - one of the best. And it rekindles my good feelings for Hillary and makes me remember how much I wanted this woman to be President at one time.

But, I still can't get over the comments about Andrew. Damn. You should be at the BO HQ with this kind of enthusiasm and joy.  And damn is Obama more than lucky to have you fighting for him.

I'm not blown away much. I am now.
