BREAKING: Kucinich Introducing Articles of Impeachment in House!

Go to C-Span.

Feel free to use this as an open thread!

Whoa!

UPDATE: BIGTIME KUDOS to Kevin22262 in his posts, below, and for providing a link to all of Dennis Kucinich's 35 Articles of Impeachment, as noted here: http://www.democrats.com/35-articles-of-impeachment

UPDATE #1 8:20PM EST:

Apparently he's reading 35 Articles of Impeachment. This could take a little while.

FINAL UPDATE 12:30PM EST, TUES., JUNE 10TH:

OH, THE TRAVESTY OF IT ALL!

Let's see...an intern performs fellatio on a sitting (or, was he standing at the time?) POTUS, and it's tens of millions of dollars in administrative costs paid for by us taxpayers, a long, drawn-out investigation and big "to-do;" but, someone comes along with the next administration, and provides a laundry lists of major crimes and offenses against the citizenry, and then there's....abso-freakin'-lutely NOTHING!???!!!??? Barely any coverage. No one gives a shit? Are you kidding me? Apparently, not!

WTF is happening here? Where have our priorities as a society gone when Entertainment Tonight is more important than real news? I couldn't even find the text of Kucinich's 35 Articles of Impeachment last night...and I looked around just about everywhere! But, more sincere thanks to blogger CITIZEN DAVE for posting this, just a couple hours ago...

Thanks MyDD, from a Kossack (2.00 / 2)

Hillary supporters and Barack supporters haven't exactly been dear friends over the past few months, but it's sure good to see we're starting to come together a little. This thing Dennis is doing should be a wakeup call, too:

We are in this TOGETHER. It's Bush, Cheney, and the other rightwingers who are our real enemies... who are the enemies of ANY decent person.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich performed a heroic service for our Nation by introducing 35 Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush.

Rep. Kucinich thoroughly research and and documented every single article. Any one Article would be sufficient grounds for impeaching Bush and removing him from office; taken together, the case for impeachment is overwhelming and urgent.

I thank Rep. Kucinich for his true patriotism and I urge you, my Representative and Senators, to fully support all of his Articles of Impeachment.

but Pelosi took it off the table.  He won't get any traction from this at all.

Re: I agree (2.00 / 5)

I don't know.  I can certainly understand the need to be careful to win the White House, but history will not look kindly upon our inability to act in a just manner if we do nothing.  We really need to show the world that we're as horrified by the last eight years as they are.

This isn't Bill Clinton.  This isn't about a blow job.  This is about numerous breaches of the Constitution and degredation of our great country.  I don't mean to use hyperbole, but I fully support any and all actions to hold President Bush responsible for the actions of him and his followers.

But.... this is also the age of the media being controlled by the righties, the media not doing their jobs and we are in the process of trying to float a sinking ship by getting more and better democrats in office and in the WH.

Maybe this will at least put these charges in the record so that we can go after the bush crime family after Nov?

It makes me nervous. The press will ignore Obama and even mccain all to cover the "impeachment".

I am trying to keep my eye on the ball and look at the bigger picture.

Timidity (2.00 / 2)

Timidity is not a universal tactic.  It will not always prevent failure and it will not always be the best way to protect our interests.  The value of 'choosing one's battles' is not in avoiding dangerous fights, but in coordinating how we fight.

I am glad this was done, I really am. It is in the record and if it can be done while we have a GE going on, then great. If it helps us go after these criminals after Nov., then great again!

Without Impeach, Bush Can Continue to Start Wars (2.00 / 3)

While Bush stays in power, he is dangerous. Right now, the Bush administration is saber-rattling against Iran (using lots of false data and innuendo -- just like Iraq) and DoE head Gates has just appointed a new Air Force chief who signed off on a preemptive attack on a country that might be dangerous (or might not). The Republicans need another war to win the presidency. That is all they have left. The situation is very dangerous. See this post for more:
http://www.ohiodailyblog.com/content/rum blings-war-iran-national-call-congress-t omorrow

We need to knock Bush off-kilter and keep him off-message. Impeachment hearings will help to thwart his saber-rattling and might prevent him from actually starting another war.

Re: Without Impeach, Bush Can Continue to Start Wa (2.00 / 2)

I agree.

Just keep in mind that the media is owned and controlled by bush's friends. This is not like the Watergate era (and these crimes are much worse!), back then we had a media that did a better job. We had less distractions.

It is a different place right now. Hopefully the internet is helping to even out the information playing field, except we often just pass along the pieces of info we find at the MSM sites.

I want what you want.

Re: I totally agree! (none / 0)

Impeaching Clinton may not have gotten the desired result for the Republicans, but it sure did not hurt them at the polls. They only controlled the congress and senate for more than 10 years. What the democrats should do is stop being afraid of what their actions will bring in the form of a backlash. Their reputation as spineless fools hurts them more than any backlash.  It is perplexing why the state of California produces an OK but kind of spineless Democrat such as Pelosi and a despicable person like Dianne Feinstein in such safe areas.

Que?? (2.00 / 3)

I have never understood this argument. How is forcing this administration to respond to investigations of criminal activity, every day, on camera, giving them "ammo"? It's an absurd argument. The best way to destroy the right is to actually fight them, not to just walk away because they might say something stupid or mean.

The best way to fight the right is to actually, you know, FIGHT. Enough cowering in fear of what some ignorant ditto head scum will think... they will "think" whatever Rush tells them to. The rest of America doesn't truly know or understand the depths to which this government has sunk. The ONLY way they will ever learn the truth is if it is forced into the news, and the ONLY way to do that is IMPEACHMENT.

true but we should have done it before 2008 (none / 0)

as the GOP impeached Clinton in 1998, not 2000. I say we should have started in January 2007, right after taking Congress, just so it would have been out of the way for the campaign. Then, it can have been "over" but the image damage would have been done already.

Agreed.  I'm of the opinion that anyone in the current administration, regardless of their position, who violated the law or helped orchestrate the breach of the Constitution should be held accountable.  Fuck 'em -- from the custodial staff on up to Bush himself.

The thought that most of these douchebags will earn six and seven figures on speaking tours, selling books, consulting, or whoring as lobbyists makes me fucking sick.

Pardon my goddamn French.  The impeachment (or other justice seeking measure) is, or ought be, a moral imperative.  Nothing as atrocious as the blatant crimes of Bush and his stoolies should be allowed to slide in the name of political posturing.

Partisnship vs. helping us (none / 0)

Where does this idea spring from that Democratic partisanship is a categorical negative?  The Republicans attracted enormous support in the 90s through blatant partisanship, and while they eventually overextended themselves, the lesson there is to be modest in victory, not to be modest in the fight itself.  Go Democrats!  Kick ass and take names!

I agree, (none / 0)

but I think we should have done it in 2006. The GOP didn't impeach Clinton in 2000, they did it in 1998. We should have done it in 2007 right when we got to Congress. Right now is too late. By doing it in 1998, the GOP got it out of the way in time for 2000.

Go back over the Fallon story in Esquire. Then, see the "cover" story about about Bush replacing his go-to guy in the Air Force with someone willing to use tactical nuclear weapons.

There's a great piece that went somewhat unnoticed on Kos today by one of my favorite writers: Occams Hatchet. Don't have the link 'cause I'm following the C-Span broadcast right now. Anyone want to go over there and dig it up?

There was a tie-in and threat... (2.00 / 3)

...story which ran in early March or April in conjunction with the Fallon resignation, where there was linkage between concern for Bush/Cheney bringing us into war with Iran and some in the House saying if it appeared that he was moving in that direction, they'd bring up impeachment.

So, we have the new head of the Air Force (in favor of nuclear first strikes) now replacing the old head of the Air Force (not in favor of nuclear first strikes); then 48-72 hours later...this...IMPEACHMENT!

Perhaps a coincidence. Perhaps not.

But, thanks for the link!!!! Very much appreciated!

I doubt that.  I don't think he coordinates any of these efforts with anyone, which is why he's always out there, twisting in the wind.  I do think he likes to portray himself as the martyr, safe in the knowledge that he's done nothing to actually bring about whatever cause he's championing.  That's just my take, of course.

Please update this diary with.... (2.00 / 2)

The following from Democrats.com. It came in an email.

History is in the making as I type: Rep. Dennis Kucinich is on the floor of the House reading 35 Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush.
At last!!!!!
We've waited years to find one Member of Congress brave enough to stand up for our Constitution, for which generations of Americans have fought and died. We are thrilled and honored that Dennis Kucinich has chosen to be that one genuine patriot.
We congratulate him on his historic leadership, and pledge to do everything in our power to persuade the House to adopt all 35 Articles and put George W. Bush on trial before the Senate of the United States, exactly as the Founding Fathers wanted.
We can be sure Kucinich will come under furious attack by the White House, the Republican Party, the Corporate Media, and even Bush Democrats. So let's inundate Congress with emails and calls (202-224-3121) showing our full support for Rep. Kucinich's Articles of Impeachment:
http://www.democrats.com/35-articles-of- impeachment
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your constant support throughout this long and historic struggle.

p.s. If you have cable, you can watch it all live on C-SPAN.
p.p.s. We will do our best to keep you informed by posting the latest developments on our blog at Democrats.com.

BREAKING: Kucinich Introducing Articles of Imp (2.00 / 4)

I think it's great, even if it is only symbolic.  I hope it shames that so called Dems that are running the show.

And I don't care if it gives the Republicans something to use later.  Why should we always cower in fear?  They are counting on that.  I for one am sick of the complete wussiness of our leaders.

Splitting the McCain Middle = Brilliant (2.00 / 1)

Okay.  At first I thought this was bad for November.  We don't want the republicans to coalesce around this issue.

Or do we?

If this becomes a big deal, McCain will be forced to choose whether to stand with Bush or to throw him in front of the bus.

Now I am sure he will stand with Bush.  If McCain gives his tacit permission to the tactics of the last 8 years, we can attack him mercilessly on him being a Bush 3rd term.  The republicans will unite but the indies will be running from McCain faster than you could ever imagine.  We win the indies we win the election.

If out of nowhere McCain rollsover on Bush, then he loses the democrat-hating republican base.  Without the base, McCain loses.

This is a win-win situation and it may be pure genius.

I think everyone should send emails asking our Reps to support this.  We just need a simple majority.

Wouldn't that be sweet!?

Re: Splitting the McCain Middle = Brilliant (none / 0)

I disagree completely. Taking a shot at the Bushies would give us a chance to win a battle and lose a war at the same time.

I am not saying we shouldn't do it. But we certainly should consider the effects on the election before we do.

Doing the right thing is not the right thing if it were to cost us the Supreme Court.

Re: Splitting the McCain Middle = Brilliant (none / 0)

If someone told me that Bush and Cheney could be impeached and tried for treason and the trade off was John McCain as President for four years..I would take it.  I am a Democrat but I am an American first.  My heart has ached for 8 long years of Bush/Cheney and they should not be allowed to walk away from this.  This cause, to me, is about the moral and ethical core of our nation.  If we do nothing we have already lost more than this election.

Re: Splitting the McCain Middle = Brilliant (none / 0)

SO it would be worth seeing Roe v. Wade overturned to you to have justice done in this case?

It would be worth continued war in Iraq?

I agree that they should not be allowed to walk away from this unscathed BUT the price would be too great.

Also, I don't know about you. But I would not want history to look at me the way it will look at them and for me that will be punishment enough.

Its not a matter of being "afraid." It is a matter of gaming it out and taking the course of action that furthers our agenda in the long term. Sure taking these asshats out would be satisfying now and it would certainly be morally righteous...but it isn't worth risking this election over.

Re: Splitting the McCain Middle = Brilliant (none / 0)

If we can put together a coalition in the Senate to go for impeachment, than we can hold that group together to filibuster judges.  But it won't come to that.  We can win in November, regardless of what fights we take up in the meantime, because this election will be fought via street organizing, and any counterspinning that needs to be done media-wise is within our ability to pay for.  ugh, I garbled, but you know what I mean.

The transcript of Kucinich's call for impeachment will be forever written in the Congressional Journal, and that's a good thing.

History will be able to look back and see that the evil and illegal activities of the Bush Adnministration were at least once documented and recorded before the American people.

If impeachment is impossible now, at least one day an objective judgment can be made.

After all, Bush always says that history will be his judge.

You said it yourself.

I don't think we are going to impeach and I am fairly certain we shouldn't.

The only person who will be on record is Kucinich and anyone else (which will be very few) who sponsor the bill. History will not judge Kucinich as a hero. Hey, if we're going to impeach Bush, why not impeach Lincoln for the suspension of habeas corpus and spending money without congressional approval--direct violations to the Constitution. If Kucinich was truly serious about this, he should of introduced this bill with cosponsors and sponsors in his pocket as well as the support of several legislatures.

Re: BREAKING: Kucinich Introducing Articles of Imp (2.00 / 1)

You and Markos can go cry in your beers about how the Progressive held onto his seat against an empty suit corporate shill.

I like how people who consider themselves Democrats don't seem to give credit to people who were right. Kucinich led a majority of Democratic House members to vote against the Iraq AUMF and yet he is pilloried and sneered at. What is it? Cause he's short? Cause he's a vegan? Is this the group of people that the Right calls dirty fucking hippies saying 'NO! There's your dirty fucking hippie!'

The embrace of the politics of stupid has to end. Kucinich threw away a straight shot to the governorship of Ohio and perhaps the White House by saving public ownership of the electricity in Cleveland. The banks tried to blackmail him into selling it off but he didn't back down. The people of Cleveland have saved hundreds of millions of dollars and Kucinich got fired.

Seeing how another 200 billion is going straight down the toilet to kill people and fund mercenaries this week, maybe it's nice to see a politician with integrity for once.

Don't be surprised if you see Bush being the visionary of our times. All the destruction of Iraq, our economy, etc. feed into the master plan of defeating the terraists. Bush torpedoed our own dollar because he knew that since a lot of those mideast regimes have large dollar reserves, making the dollar less will help diminish the terror-making abilities.
